Baby Gear Splurge

If you hypothetically happened to have a large GC to BuyBuyBaby, what would you spend it on? I am a STM, so I have all the necessary gear already. so what would you splurge on?

A halo bassinet?
A mamaroo?
A double citi mini?
Pretty much anything by 4moms?
Something else new and cool that I'm not thinking of?

Re: Baby Gear Splurge

  • If it we *me* I really want a cosleeper for this baby (didn't have one last time), so I'd probably go with the Halo Bassinet. If you already have a cosleeper though I might not.

I do already have a double stroller (the city select, and I inherited a second seat kit). So that would be my runner-up.

I might not do the Mamaroo if you already have a swing. If you don't that would make it a trickier choice.

I got an uppababy vista for Christmas, and I think that's all the splurging on baby crap I need to do for the forseable.. forever.

I want a Halo Bassinest, the mamaroo and an Uppababy Vista. Although I'd might go for the Bugaboo if I had a really large GC. I think my parents are getting us the Halo though so I'm excited!

  • Id get the double single size city select by baby jogger. I actually have the vista and love it for one but I think it will be awful for two. Granted I have an older model. That rumble seat sucks.

Same. I have a 2014 Vista and I know it won't work for us with two. Maybe if my littles were closer in age, but it's already nearly too small for my almost 2 year old.

I think the Mamaroo is a very cleverly advertised giant waste of money. So I would vote double stroller.
I looked at it at the store a few days ago and it was making the most awful noise. I wasn't leaning towards that one but didn't know if other moms found it to be a lifesaver. My son never cared for the swing. Who knows what the next kid will like.

Does it have a nice push? And do you ever use it with just one kid? Does that make it push funny? I don't know how much my son will want to ever sit in it. He'll be almost 3 by the time the weather is nice enough to use it

@Katemr1146 I've heard of too many moms whose babies hated the thing/preferred a cheaper swing. Mine both hated swings entirely and I seriously doubt spending $$$ would have changed their minds.
  • @lilwonder I was looking at the Bugaboo Buffalo and the attachable cup holders bother me. Do you know if the attach firmly? Seemed like they wanted to spill my drink, but maybe cause it was a floor model? I'm new to all these things, not sure what direction to go.

Not to post steal but I had the Cybex Aton 2 with DD and lurveeeed it. Except the teeny sunshade, which they fixed with the Q. Is the Q plus the one that lies down? I think that's the coolest.

On I love the rumble seat! And you can position it so one kid is facing out down in front in the rumble seat and the other is in the car seat or the other rumble seat facing you, so no one gets stacked underneath. You have to buy an extender but it's only like $20.

  • @NatashaSprout I've been looking at "parent consoles" that strap (velcro) to each side of the handle bar and is up by your hands. The ones I've found have two cup holders... I'm thinking of ordering a couple from Amazon and taking them to BBB and seeing if I think they'll work. I agree that the bugaboo holders seem like crap- that's why I've ventured down this other road. For our lifestyle I just think the Bugaboo Buffalo will be awesome, so I'm pretty stuck on it.

If I find a good one that will for sure work, I'll DM you info!

It does.  We find it really easy and smooth, even when we use it with only 1 kid.  It turns easily too.  We went to a store where you could try them out and compared the GT with the Citi Select.  We thought we'd love the Select, but we liked the side by side so much better.  It was much smoother to push, turned more easily, folded flatter and fit better in our trunk (a 2 door car at the time).  We also love that both kids look out, and both can lay down if we are out late or at naptime.  My oldest is 4 now.  We bring it places like the zoo or any day out trips.  We can fit all our stuff under it, and then they walk most of the time but sit when they get tired.  I use it to walk them to preschool because we are always running late.  We really, really love it

  • @lilwonder and @NatashaSprout I highly recommend YouTube for seeing different products in use and what people say.  I found the choice between cupholder attachment or parent console Velcro thing to be a very confusing either or.  YouTube helped me see the difference and pick what I thought would work best for me.

@DunkinDecaf I think youre talking about the 2015. The 2014 only lets you attach the rumble facing in at the bottom. It's narrow and has no foot , snack tray or sun cover. Tell me I'm wrong and make me hopeful I didn't waste $800 bucks!
  • I splurge on two Clek car seats. I know it's petty and ridiculous, but I'd really like both seats in my car to match (even though we'll use an infant seat in the beginning) and those are so cool!

  • Id go with the halo bassinet or a stroller upgrade ... My DD hated the mamaroo and that was what we splurged on in her pregnancy ... Go figure!

  • I'm in the "Mamaroo saved me" camp! I borrowed it from a friend last time though and haven't decided if I will buy it for this time or not. I'm just really hoping Baby #2 is a better sleeper and not as much of a movement junkie like my first one was.

If it were me, I'd splurge on the stroller!

  • I look at the city select and halo bassinet and think what can I live without to make these two things happen in my life!
  • I don't really consider kids things a splurge I just kinda get what I am certain that I want but one thing I'm really excited about this time around is the car seat. Last time after a lot of research I just went with a cheap evenflo from baby to out of car seat seat. I felt like it was economical and it met the same standards as the others. And it did (and truthfully does my son is 4 now and it's still great) but it's such a giant pain in the arse to install a car seat properly and I'm like OCD about proper installation. I find myself sweating every time I move the stupid car seat. So while DS doesn't really need a new car seat at 4 years old I'm TOTALLY a believer this time in getting something like the Evenflo Symphony 65 DLX that just click and push. I'm like omg that would be awesome!!! So totally I'm gonna buy a high end car seat this time that's made to be easy to install!

Additionally, I love the angelcare systems and I'm totally going to spring for the one with the camera this time around. The one with the camera didn't exist with my last lol.

  • My mother has been going crazy on buying things for the baby. And she can't wait until my next appointment when we might be able to find out the sex of the little one.

I would get another lazy boy chair. That counts for baby right? I mean, you have to rock them somewhere....

I reeeeally want a Halo bassinet, but so expensive and you can only use it for a short time, so I'm hoping to get one for a gift but I'm not sure that I'd use a gift card on one. A pimped out stroller would probably be your best bang for the buck. Or a really nice carrier with a few other things.

  • I'm thinking I'm going to do the Halo bassinet. Logistically I don't think I'll be able to fit the pack n play next to my bed in the new house, so I need something smaller anyways. I have to do more stroller research before deciding on a double.

The H bassinet is a good choice. You can get the mamaroo secondhand. J loved it, but it took a few tries so it can be a crapshoot. Double strollers overwhelm me

We just bought our second seat. I looove it as a single with my first. We also stalked the sites first time around and ended up getting it a few hundred off because it was the old model year. I'm excited to use it as a double
