Fitness check in?

Would anyone be interested in weekly fitness check in?  We could discuss goals for the week, how the previous week went, diet, etc?  I am a big runner and hope to continue to run this pregnancy, but sometimes it is nice to have some motivation.  I would be happy to start it - just didn't want to if no one else was interested :)

Re: Fitness check in?

  • I would be interested!  I love to run and workout and would love to make it my whole pregnancy keeping it up.  A little motivation from others would be great!

I like it - I can put you on the guidelines post as the volunteer for the fitness check in :)  I've been just going on brisk walks until I get the all clear from the OB next week. TW -  I've previously had a loss, and I am just really skittish about everything this go around. So, I stopped my weight lifting routine (I lift pretty heavily), and toned back my cardio to walking/hiking. I'm hoping to to get the green light a week from today at my first appointment.

Interested! I ran with my first 2 but now find it close to impossible to run pushing 2 in a jogging stroller up hills.  So I am sticking to power yoga every other day for an hour and if I can squeeze in a solo run on the weekends then I will consider that a bonus.  I do a lot of walking with my kids too. Heading into this pregnancy in great shape so I am excited about that and that is great motivation.

  • I haven't changed anything yet, just not doing yoga poses with backbending on my stomach (locust, bow, etc). Also I get tired easier during workouts.

  • I'm in! But I'll be lacking in the fitness department for a few weeks. No running per my RE until I hit 10 weeks. Usually I run, do yoga and lift but morning sickness is kicking my ass right now!

I'm in too! I'm also a runner and ran up to 40 weeks with my first baby but I honestly think I'll be taking it down a notch for this pregnancy.

  • I'm down!  I started weight training exercises last year and definitely want to continue as much as I can this pregnancy.  I also run and am hoping to keep up with that.

  • I'm down too.  I have lost 45 pounds over the last year and I refuse to gain it ALL back. lol!! I'm trying to be super healthy with the pregnancy.  We shall see how that lasts once the cravings hit. haha!

Sounds great! I stopped my gym classes after getting my BFP out of paranoia, but I have been walking 30-60 minutes daily.

This is my first pregnancy, so I don't even know what is safe in the first trimester. I usually do Bodypump (2 times per week - heavy weights), Cardio class (like Kickboxing or Zumba) 2 times per week, and Yoga once per week. My doctor told me to avoid lifting weights or high-impact cardio right now, so I'm playing it safe!

I'd love to know what exercises I definitely CANNOT do (Ab work? Twisting, Jumping, Running, Heavy lifting) i plan to purchase one of those big exercise balls (not sure what they are called) to do stretching/pilates stuff in the evenings.

I've had to get permission from my OB to continue participating in HIIT sessions, but she's good with it since I was doing it before.

The OBs that I used to work with recommended water walking or jogging in a pool for low impact cardio, so I might start doing that as well.  It sounds appealing since my boobs aren't cooperating with me when I jog these days.
  • @cjs260 sure, sign me up :)  I will start todays now

  • aishmc OMG I totally hear you on the boob thing. I do an all-around strength training class and everything my instructor had us go run today I was like "please no!!"

@AmyKDuffy I just got back from a workout and I must have looked hilarious.  The trainers know I need to take it a bit easier, but our warmup included a jog around the block and a bunch of jumping jacks.  I started out ok, but I started to feel like my boobs were going to come up and hit me in the face, so I had to cross my arms to hold my boobs in place and kept wincing.

I'm no regular athlete, but I'm trying not to gain all the unnecessary weight I did this time like last time (65lbs last time with 2p in the first tri.) Can't let that happen again! I lost it all eventually but I'd rather not gain more than 35. I'm already off to a bad start

For you ladies that have had other babies - is it really really difficult to lose the weight? I'm fortunate to have been pretty active (and thin) my entire life....BUT I've heard that pregnancy totally changes your metabolism, you gain the weight in areas where it is more difficult to lose (stomach, inner thighs, butt) which changes your shape.

I just want to prepare myself timewise and see how I can only gain a safe/recommended amount....I've been eating larger amounts the last several weeks, but I will try to cut back to a more reasonable amount (I've read that you really only need to add 300 Calories more when you are pregnant?)

I would definitely be interested in a weekly fitness check in!!  I usually run most mornings and swim most evenings.  I had actually started training for a marathon around the time of my last period.  I'm of course going to cancel my marathon plans.  I had my first doctor's appointment yesterday and he suggested I cut back to exercising no more than once a day or even every other day but to still continue.  I worry that cutting back will lead to just stopping all together so a weekly check in would be great!
  • Me! We did one in TTGP and it was such a great way to stay accountable. I would love to be a part of that here.

I love this idea. I had an ostrich approach while pregnant with my first son and gained a bunch of weight (47 pounds) and had a hard time losing it. I never looked at the scale one time during the entire pregnancy. I had quite the shock when I got home from the hospital and weighted myself - lol. With my second son, I stayed on top it and worked out the entire pregnancy and felt great. I HAVE to be like my second pregnancy this time around
