How does your LO nap?

Just curious...what are most of your LO's naps like? Where are the sleeping? What tricks are you using (like swaddles, pacis, etc)? How long are the staying asleep?

One minute I find myself paranoid that we're starting terrible habits & he's a terrible napper, the next minute I remind myself that he's only 7 weeks new and it'll work itself out in the next month or two. But I'm still curious. And I CAN'T be the only paranoid mama here!

    I'll start...

DS will get a decent nap right now in the swing, and even then that's a gamble sometimes. He has to be swaddled in the swing with a paci and white noise is a huge help. He'll sleep 30 minutes to an hour that way on average- but if he snuggles with me he'll sleep 2+ hours. I usually snuggle with him For an afternoon nap. If the paci falls out when not snuggling he wakes up and flails his head back and forth so the paci falls down and there's no way he can get it back in himself, even when we use a wubbanub. He hates sleeping on his back right now, so the crib is out. I used to be able to get him to sleep in the RNP in his room, but he went from sleeping 2 hours that way to 1 hour, to 30 minutes. Not sure what the deal is there...

Our critical element is really the paci which ironically he sleeps at night without. Can't keep that darn thing in for naps though!

  • He's baby number three, with the older two being 2 and 3 years old. So naps are all over the place. He sleeps a lot in the car seat or when I'm wearing him out and about. At home he sleeps in his bouncy seat, the rock n play, or the co sleeper. Yesterday he slept on a blanket on the floor because he fell asleep there and I didn't want to move him and wake him! I took a picture and had to laugh because I guarantee my first never slept on the floor! He likes his paci and sometimes get swaddled. Honestly I don't really know how long he naps for. It's just so different how unscheduled he is, but I figure we will work it out when he's a bit older!

  • Naps wherever! On me, in the stroller, in the car seat, in the sling, on dad, in the bouncy chair, in the bassinet, on the bed, on his playmat. Sometimes swaddled. Sometimes with a pacifier. Sometimes nursed to sleep and other times not. Basically anywhere and anyhow. It's important to me to have him sleep flexibly as we are always on the go (4yo DD).
  • My 11.5 week old naps usually in her swing or snuggled next to me if I need a nap. And also the car seat if out and about. She will usually stay awake for 1.5-2 hour stretches and then nap anywhere from 1/2 hour to 2 hours. No paci, no swaddling. Lots of noise during the day (TV, laundry, dish washer, vacuum, older siblings), & she only sleeps in the living room for naps.   At night she sleeps in a rock&play next to my bed & will sleep 4-6 hours at one stretch then 2-3 for the 2nd stretch. I still feel completely exhausted though.
  • Ds is 6 weeks and naps in the swing during the day. He won't take a paci and isn't a fan of the swaddle. He naps really well in there during the day, but also sleeps in the car seat if we need to run an errand. At night he sleeps in the rnp for the first part of the the night and then he sleeps with me.

  • DS is 8wks. During the day he naps anywhere from 1-3 hours. This could be in his crib, car seat, mamaroo or on me. I prefer to have him sleep in his crib, but if he doesn't stay asleep then I will adapt. He usually is swaddled, both during naps and at night. At night he will sleep in his crib primarily but if he absolutely won't sleep in the crib I cradle him in the crook of my arm. He doesn't take a paci whatsoever
  • We are usually out and about and she will fall asleep in her car seat or ergo. If we happen to be at home I usually stick her in the swing and turn it on and hope for the best lol. Some days she sleeps a ton and other days I can't get her to nap hardly at all, so whatever, we just roll with it. On the days she doesn't nap I definitely don't get much done. They are still really young and there's lots of time to get into good napping routines.

  • DD is 8 wks, but her sleeping isn't very predictable. Some days she takes 10 min naps all morning, but some days she sleeps hours, only waking up to eat for 5 minutes then falls asleep for more hours. She falls asleep with my rolling her around the house in the bassinet, lying on my shoulder while I'm walking around, rocking outside, or nursing. So really, there are no constant days for putting her to sleep yet.
  • My daughter will be 7 weeks tomorrow and I'll say from about 4 or 5 weeks she's been more of a cat napper.  She'll sleep for 20 minutes here or 45 minutes there. And she'll sleep just about anywhere, her swing, on me,on our bed (alone and cleared of extra pillows and whatnot). We don't really swaddle cause she loves her hands to be out but we do use the paci and she'll spit it out once she's drowsy enough. We also rub her tummy or sing to her and she seems to like that. At night, she sleeps in her crib with the sound machine on.
  • My LO is 7 weeks today. In the beginning she would nap anywhere such as bassinet, carseat, in my arms or in dads arms, or on bed. But lately she will not fall asleep for a nap unless she's being held by dad or myself, or in her carseat while in motion. Her naps for the past few days are ranging from 20mins to an hour, really hoping she gets a routine that includes a 2hour nap again, i miss those days.

She has never liked being swaddled because she gets comfort in her hands touching her face (she was also in this position during her last ultrasound at 22 weeks) she takes a paci but usually knocks it out with her hands, rarely falls asleep with paci but it can help to pop it back in when she wakes during a nap.

She has yet to ever sleep in her swing but im trying to get her used to it so that i can have more handsfree time.

Not well.  I was just telling my mom, DS1 was the most clockwork child from nearly day 1.  Pretty quickly he was napping 2 hours then awake 1.5 hours, then another 2 hour nap and so on all day long.  This baby?  He snoozes best on me or at the breast.  He snacks, and it's hard to get a 'full' feeding in him before he passes out.  Half of it's me.  I don't mind him sleeping on me because I get some quiet time (while DS1 is in daycare) . But he's hard to put down without waking.  He doesn't like the swing the way DS1 did (which allowed for those really long naps most often).  He's a really restless sleeper, and I've found he can root around in the bouncer and put himself back to sleep about half of the time.  He likes to lay on me to sleep, so he may be my tummy sleeper when I finally break down and put him in his crib for things (when DS1's semester ends at daycare).
  • DS will be 6 weeks tomorrow and his naps/sleep is still everywhere. He likes to be held literally all day long and can't fall asleep on his own. He wakes up like 3-4 times a night which drives DH and I crazy. I tried to feed him more during the day, tried letting him nap both more and less to see if it makes a difference. We are trying to start a night time routine similar to DD's schedule. I am tired but I am hoping things will get better as time goes by. Oh fyi... DD is almost 2 and still doesnt sleep through the night. She did at one point but vacation screwed it all up. Oh boy... When and how do I ever get my sleep back!!!
  • DD is 12 weeks and we don't have schedule for naps. Sometimes she'll take a good one in her swing or in her bouncy seat but recently she only takes super good naps on my chest. I usually sleep with her at those times. I know it's spoiling her, but I don't really care! Her good long nap is usually after her 2nd feed of the day. I'm not too worried about it at this point. We are lucky and I get to be home all day with her and DH gets her all evening (no daycare/babysitter). We both have our routine with her and it's working out just fine.

My daughter is 10 weeks and sleeps swaddled up! Her first nap of the day is 3 hours and every nap after that is usually 2+.
We do wake, eat, play, sleep and it works really well

@4N6s wow I'm so incredibly jealous! I wish I had at least one 2+ hour nap! And she's sleeping at night too? Has she always done that?
