Not Sitting.

I am not sure if I should worry or not but LO isn't putting himself in a sitting position yet. He will do this weird thing where he is sitting on his elbow and leaning but he isn't sitting yet. He crawls, I can stand him up and he can stay standing while holding on for a few minutes but makes no attempt to walk which is okay with me. But not sitting up on his own. Early intervention hasn't said he's behind but did tell me to cut down on his excersaucer time. Anyone else's LO not sitting?

Re: Not Sitting.

  • I don't think you should about that yet. Especially with all of the other stuff he's doing and if early intervention didn't say anything I wouldn't worry. But I wanted to say my son did the leaning on his elbow to play thing for a couple of weeks before he started getting to sitting on his own. That's how the sitting started for him. He would reach to get a toy with his opposite arm and end up pushing himself up to sitting (though he couldn't hold the sitting position at first). So it sounds like he is on his way! Might be soon :)

  • Mine's not really sitting on his own yet, either... he'll push himself up to a tripod occasionally, but not a full-on sit. I'm not too worried as like yours he is crawling, standing with help, etc.
  • I agree with the EI suggestion. If LO is on the floor, they can't manipulate toys as easily from their belly. It motivates them to get to sitting to free up their hands. Sitting in an exersaucer won't hurt them, but it means they can play with toys in front of them with 2 hands without learning to sit. We skipped all those with DD2 (no jolly jumper, no exersaucer, etc) and haven't propped her up to sit except if she's on our laps. It was fun to watch the progression of her play as she mastered new skills.

  • He spends a lot of time on the floor and in the pack n play with his toys when I have things to do. Until yesterday he was happy army crawling but now he seems to be rocking on his knees more but still no real desire to sit. He just wants to move. He doesn't seem to like the excersaucer very much anymore either.

  • My LO is 7.5 months and she doesn't put herself in a sitting position yet either. I'm honestly not worried about it because she crawls like a madwoman and is capable of sitting when I put her that way. It usually only lasts a minute or so before she transitions to her stomach to start crawling around. I think she just like moving around too much to be interested in sitting.

Exact same here. She started crawling, rolls a lot, leans up on her arm, but she's not quite interested in sitting yet. It will happen!

Edit: I spoke too soon. She sat up on her own today!
