Opinions on HG options, colloidal silver

https://stevenandersonfamily.blogspot.com/2013/11/the-cause-and-cure-of-morning-sickness.html

I had a friend send me this link shortly after my diagnosis of hyperemesis. Can decide whether the logic is sound or if I'm just desperate to feel better. I haven't had a chance to do very much research but from what I can find the colloidal silver seems safer than the phenargan that I'm taking at the moment. Anyone try something like this or have insight to any of this? I'm just sick of being sick.

Re: Opinions on HG options, colloidal silver

  • I think you're just desperate to feel better. A quick Google doesn't reveal any (real) studies that show this is effective for HG. Their link only pulls up a bunch of equally BSC websites as proof. But it is listed on the Sloan Kettering website as being not safe (ever, but especially) during pregnancy, and notes it may result in fetal abnormalities. There probably aren't a lot of studies on what fetal abnormalities result because no sane doctor would ever study this.

  • No no noooooooo no no. Please talk to a doctor, a real doctor. Homeopathy + internet blogs is NOT medical advice you should ever consider taking.

I know you want to feel better, but please be safe and careful. Talk to an actual doctor, get a second opinion, but do NOT take that stuff.

I have HG and that was never something my doctor brought up - just zofran, phenargan, dicelgis, etc. if you feel like the options you have discussed with your doctor are not providing any relief, I would encourage you to talk to them again instead of looking for homeopathic remedies.

I'm so sorry you are feeling so sick, I definitely understand the feeling of being over it and wanting to try anything that could possibly help. Just talk to your doctor first, check out www.helpher.org if you haven't already.

Sending good vibes your way that you get some relief soon (and safely).

My doctor has literally told me we are out of options. I'm allergic to zofran, had a bad reaction to reglan, dicelgis isn't helping and while I'm taking phenergan it does scare me that its a cat c drug. I personally know someone living with the permanant effects of phenergan and am looking for any other options. When I mentioned thia article to my doctor she didn't know a lot about colloidal silver but wasn't against me trying it. If anyone has anything that shows negative effects I want to see those links.

I think the problem you will have is that those studies don't exist, because no one would give pregnant women colloidal silver only to discover the negative impacts.

Why don't you first demand studies that show that it is effective and safe? I don't think you'll find those either. That website certainly didn't have any. I can understand being desperate, but don't let it push you into poor decisions.

As a crunchy mom I think Colloidal Silver is a fine choice for mostly anything. I haven't taken it for my HG though. I urge you to really push your doctors though and make sure you are getting the correct care.

Make sure to visit beyondmorningsickness.com and request a free book. They will give it to you no questions asked!

My first pregnancy I didn't have the knowledge and support I needed for HG. THis time I do. If all you are being given is phenergan they aren't doing everything they could be to help you. And I am soooo sooooo soooo sorry for that. HG is miserable. I sit here hooked to my Zofran pump telling you... I'd do ALMOST anything to feel better. Such a sad road. BUT it gets better. Hang in there and take in one day at a time. Make sure you get as much information on possible treatments as you can so that you can force your care providers to help you to the best of their abilities!

Crazy scary that you know someone that had the effects of phenergan. I took it with my first pregnancy and my son faces no ill effects. They do have those available as a pump. THe pump does work better than oral in my opinion.

Wowwwwwwwww this article you posted is really interesting!!!! Thank you for posting this!

  • I have used colloidal silver when I'm not pregnant, but only for things like sinus infections or ear infections. I don't believe it would or could help with HG. I also don't know the effects of it while pregnant.

I have no advice but this reminded me of my step-dad. He SWEARS by CS, makes his own (!!! lol) and uses it for anything from ear infections to pink eye to stomach bugs to skin irritations. I think it only helps for bacterial type things, i don't think it would help HG tbh.

I'm truly scared of the medications I'm on for HG: mostly zofran, sometimes a phenergan suppository, and sometimes reglan. For those of you on your second or third pregnancy, are your kids who were medicated babies okay? I'm a first time mom, and this has been so awful I refuse to ever go through it again. I spend each day terrified of the results.

@CecilTheBear the original point of the post was asking for information so my comment was trying to approach it in another angle. At this point I'm more curious about the psychology behind the adament "no"s to something that hasnt had much study but may help versus phenergan, something thats not working well and has shown potential harm but was prescribed to me despite that risk.
@Oakleypoozles thank you for the link, I requested a book and hope there may be more to learn and try. Being in a pretty rural area my doctors aren't too familiar with dealing with HG. We have several components going into my care including most traditional morning sickness help which doesn't even begin to touch it, but are limited on treatments because of my allergies.
@BmcD2016 and @juliehollz13 the article talks about the theory that hG is caused by an excess of a specific bacteria and using CS in conjunction with adding fermented foods into your diet to try and balance those bacteria. Hearing others using it for anti bacterial uses kind of collaborates the idea of it being helpful.
I dont think I feel comfortable experimenting with it while pregnant at this point  but may try just the fermented foods side of it since theres no harm in that.

@aestabr this is my second HG baby. My first was born with a heart murmur which was potentailly caused by the zofran I took for 2 weeks beftore ending up in the ER with bladder retention, a potential side effect of zofran.

@rooftop idk if this helps but I have IBS and UC so I would get sick often. CS didn't help with my stomach issues although they were not pregnancy related. I would also theorize that if you take an anti bacterial agent it would kill the GOOD bacteria in your gut along with the bad kind. I think you're on the right track with trying fermented foods, but i dont think CS is harmful to try. Also, taking a magesium+ calcium supplement really helped my MS although I don't have HG.

  • @rooftop I'm a fellow IBS-er. That is so hard to balance with morning sickness, I'm so glad the MS part should be almost over.

One benefit of CS is that it apparently kills off bad bacteria while not damaging the good bacterias of the gut. This is what I've been told from a naturopath and I am not a researcher so I can't verify.
  • @aestabr I took zofran with my daughter and she's fine. No experience with the other two medications though
