Starting daycare

So we have been very fortunate for the last 8 months to have a family member watch our little man till now but he has to start daycare next week because she has decided to go back to work. So we found a daycare and I like it alright but I'm super nervous about him going (he has never been left with an actual stranger). I'm going to be out of town the 2 days a week he is there and I just worry he is going to hate it.  Please tell me it's going to be ok and I'm just overreacting because it is a big change for us.

Re: Starting daycare

  • He will do great! Parents tend to be the ones its the hardest one. He will love all his new friends at daycare!

  • LO has been in daycare since 5 months and she loves it! Which makes me love it. She gets so excited when she goes and when we pick her up she is so excited to see us she bounces up and down and squeals. It is The Best part of my day to see her reaction. Let me tell you it does get easier so don't worry! DD has learned so much and they have a great curriculum and we get to see lots of pictures of the activities they have her doing. She is so social and it's adorable to see her and her friends. I honestly couldn't be happier with the choice we made. Just wanted to give you a little reassurance because I know it's hard! Good luck!!
  • My niece started daycare at 7 or 8 months and she adjusted beautifully. They're really resilient, and daycare teachers are used to helping little one's get into the swing of things.

  • It will be extremely difficult I'm not gonna lie.. BUT you both will adjust and be just fine! I had maternity leave for 3 months with baby but then i had to go back to work, no family members live near us, plus they work :-(  he has continued being a happy smiley baby even going to daycare!
  • It might be hard, especially since he'll only be there 2 days a week, but he will definitely get it and learn to love it! My biggest piece of advice is this: don't act sad or worried when you drop him off because he will pick up on that and think that's how he should feel about daycare. Act happy and excited and it will make the transition easier and quicker for him (and you). Good luck! It will be hard at first but it doesn't take long for them to adjust. :)
  • Thanks you all for your comments and advice. Everyone I have talked to keeps telling me it will be fine so I'm am going to trust all the moms and believe this will be good for all of us.
