Menstrual cups

Has anyone ever heard of or used menstrual cups to help increase fertility? It was mentioned to me, so I wanted to research it.

Re: Menstrual cups

  • Hi! Seems I've read earlier, several ladies here were using the instead cup. And I know some of them attribute using it to getting their BFPs. I was using it far earlier almost at the beginning of our fertility journey when wasn't diagnosed fully at all. If you're interested there is a menstrual cup called a diva cup that is made of very flexible silicon. It is reusable and comfortable once you get the hang of putting it in. That took me a few tries but it was worth the effort. Never any problems with infection because, if you are using it for AF, you take it out every 12 hours.
Actually some women wonder how it helps with conceiving. I guess, unlike a tampon which absorbs the blood along with the vagina's natural secretions, a menstrual cup simply holds the fluids until you remove it. So probably more necessary fluids still remain in your body - lol. Unfortunately menstrual cups turned out to be inappropriate for us due to my latter DX. (We had to pass ivf with donor eggs, round#3 in Biotexcom clinic being success!!). Wish you all the best with your new experience ;)

I have watched some youtube videos and a couple ladies mentioned using menstrual cups after intercourse to prevent sperm from leaking out.  I can't vouch for effectiveness, but I know some women have tried it.

  • From what I've read what comes out after sex is mostly arousal fluids and "bad" sperm. The good sperm are already on the way to where they should be. Everything I've been able to find is anecdotal evidence and according to the Softcup website: Evofem has not studied the post-intercourse placement of Softcup as a method to help improve the probability of conception. The use of Softcup as a pregnancy aid has not been cleared by the FDA.
  • Thank you ladies!
