Re: PGAL Check-In | 5.2

  • Weeks: 13 today! By most definitions I enter the second trimester this week. :)

Next milestone/appointment? Honestly I don't have anything booked until my anatomy scan on June 20th. I'll probably see my family doctor around the end of this month for a urine dip and C+S which is supposed to be done routinely around 16-20 weeks.

Rant/Rave/Anything else: Now that my daughter knows, the sibling rivalry has cranked up a notch. While my son used to be pretty egalitarian (didn't care if it's a girl or a boy) now that my daughter really wants a sister, he really wants a brother. They now bicker over this, as if they had any control. We found a place a little ways away that will do ultrasounds for sex determination as early as 16 weeks so we're going to try to go as a family so that the kids can both see their sibling and we can learn as a family whether it's a boy or a girl.

    Questions? Nah, I'm good.

GTKY: What was your first car? Mazda MX-3 Precidia. Bought it a week before I found out I was pregnant with my son. It was a little, sporty, four-seater car and I got totally ripped off on it. It would've been impossible to put a car seat in it. I ended up selling it almost immediately, and we eventually got a Chrysler Neon which was a very bad decision. I don't have good luck with used cars.

Next milestone/appointment? Next appointment at 15 weeks on 5/20.

Rant/Rave/Anything else: should be finding out the results of the genetic testing this week and the sex of the baby! Probably will announce on social media after that.

    Questions? N/a

GTKY: What was your first car? 93 Ford Tempo drove that car 2004-2008

  • hi guys! I haven't participated on this page yet because I get overwhelmed on Mondays with all the new check ins lol.

My name is Jenni and I live in Florida. We had a missed miscarriage last July in my 11th week. The baby stopped growing around 8 weeks 5 days. I went on to have a d and c...

    Weeks: 13 weeks 3 days

Next milestone/appointment? I have 2 appointments this week. Ob on Wednesday and high risk dr on Friday.

Rant/Rave/Anything else: I never really have anything to say here lol

    Questions?

GTKY: What was your first car? My first car was a 1999 Toyota Camry.

    Weeks: 11+1

Next milestone/appointment: Tomorrow afternoon is my first official prenatal appointment. Excited and nervous!

Rant/Rave/Anything Else: Still on bedrest since 6 weeks.  I'm supposed to be traveling to the UK next week for work, but instead I doubt I can even go to work. I'm expecting to lose my job.   My boss does have a heart, but he also has a business to run and a board to report to.  I haven't been there long enough for FMLA.

    Questions: Nada

GTKY: What was your first car?  In college I bought a 1983 Mercury Capri, oxidized grey with destroyed paint.  It cost $100.  The radiator fan controller died so I wired a toggle switch to the dash to turn the fan on when the temp got warm.  It overheated a lot.  Then one day the fusible link in the wire from the switch to the fan blew.  So I hard wired around it because I needed to get home and didn't have a fuse.  And the switch caught fire on the dash.  So pretty soon I was driving around with a wiring diagram, electrical toolbox and a fire extinguisher at all times.  Good times.

    Next milestone/appointment? NT Scan & 12w Check-up on Thursday 5/5

Rant/Rave/Anything else: I'm not sleeping very well, again. I'm going to try melatonin tonight-- I haven't used it for a few weeks, so we'll see if it helps. Nausea has 99% subsided, it only comes in the form of gagging a little bit when I take my vitamins or brush my teeth.

    Questions? Nope

GTKY: What was your first car? 1998 Chevy Tahoe-- it was a great high school car.

  • Weeks: 13+6....Heading into the second trimester!

Next milestone/appointment? I have an OB appointment tomorrow. I booked my a/s for June 10th.

Rant/Rave/Anything else: I've thrown up the past few evenings. No matter what I've been eating for dinner, it just won't stay down. I had been fine weeks 10-13. I'm hoping it will go away again soon.

    Questions? None

GTKY: What was your first car? 1995 Ford Explorer. It was handed down from my Dad. It lasted me through HS and my first year of University. I loved that car.
  • Weeks: 12

Next milestone/appointment? Thursday! I think I will finally be able to relax a little after I get to hear the heartbeat.

Rant/Rave/Anything else: I'm feeling pretty good today and I've been feeling increasingly better over the past few days. Fingers crossed I'm past the point of feeling like crap almost all the time.

    Questions? None

GTKY: What was your first car?  2003 Oldsmobile Alero - Fire engine red. I bought it used in college and just got rid of it about 18 months ago. It was a great first car, but by the end the windows were all held up with doorstops (they slid down over time), the electronics wouldn't work for about 3-4 minutes when you first turned on the car, and it was leaking coolant. I cried when I drove away in my new car. In 9 years I had a lot of great memories with that car.
  • Weeks: 13+3 today

Next milestone/appointment? - Seeing the OB May 11, growth check US on the 16th, A/S booked for June 20th

Rant/Rave/Anything else: I loved my NT scan! It was so amazing to see two tiny humans in there, especially since they were so active! I can't wait to see them again. DH wasn't able to make the NT scan so he's really excited for the 16 week us.

    Questions? - nope

GTKY: What was your first car? It was a hand me down from my parents that lasted about six months before the gas tank rusted through...I think it was a maroon Chevy Cavalier.

    Weeks: 11+1

Next milestone/appointment? NT Scan on May 10th, hopefully I get my Panorama results back with actual results this time sometime around then as well.

Rant/Rave/Anything else: I know I posted on here last week about my annoying "no results" result from Panorama. I went to the OB the day after I found out and once again, we have a great heart rate of 171.

Im really surprised at myself for not freaking out about the "no results", especially since my Dr said it could in itself indicate a chromosomal abnormality. I found the research and it looks like 50% of the 5% of us who initially do not get results will not get results from multiple redraws. Of those 50% 12% have chromosomal abnormalities, so the number is still pretty small and my draw was really early (9weeks+5 days) so I'm going with the too early reason in my head.

Though in thinking all of this over, it occurred to me that I'm not freaking out because this is not part of the trauma that I experienced the last time. Now that I have successfully passed my milestone with a strong heartbeat and my bump continues to grow, I'm feeling much more confident about this pregnancy. Maybe I will be blindsided again with bad news in the next few weeks, but I'm feeling pretty good right now, so I'm going to go with that.

Questions? Anyone else dealing with PTSD-relief after passing their loss milestones?

GTKY: What was your first car? A 1994 Nissan Altima- my parents owned the car and gave it to me when u graduated college. It last 10 more years before finally breaking down right before 200k miles. I loved that trusty car, tape deck and all!

@jennihaze Welcome! Good luck at your appointments this week.

@sunbeam1 Hope your appointment goes well. Sorry about the bed rest and your job. That sucks.

@lilwonder FX for a good NT scan.

@edk2010 FX for a good appointment. Sorry you've been getting sick.

    @rspalding001 Yay boy! Congrats.

@jrussle16 FX for a good heartbeat at your appointment. We didn't get to hear ours at my 10 week appointment and my next appointment isn't for another 3 weeks. DH doesn't want me to use the home doppler at all before then. Torture!

@chloe97 I would say I have had relief. It's weird my loss milestone was yesterday and I was completely fine. My loss was a blighted ovum though. So I guess when I saw the little bean in the sac that was passing the biggest milestone. Since then I have been pretty good about everything. My due date is coming up at the end of this month so I don't know how that will go.

    Weeks: 10+6

Next milestone/appointment? my loss milestone was yesterday. Next appointment is May 24. So far away.

Rant/Rave/Anything else: I seen a bunch of my aunts and uncles over the weekend and shared the news with them.

    Questions? Nope

GTKY: What was your first car? 1992 Ford Escort Wagon. It was red. I loved it. My aunt and uncle gave it to me (my parents) so I could drive between high schools. I took one class at a different school. It barely lasted the school year and then I got a 1993 Dodge Spirit.

    Weeks: 10w5d

Next milestone/appointment? Tomorrow (10w6d) is when I had my first u/s with my last pregnancy and found that it was measuring at 6w with no heartbeat. Even though I had my first u/s earlier this time (9w1d) and everything was looking exactly as it should, this milestone is making me nervous. I have a regular check-up appt on Thursday morning and I'm hoping she checks the heartbeat which i think would reassure me.

Rant/Rave/Anything else: Having IBS while pregnant sucks. It kicked in yesterday morning and has been hovering ever since and I feel hugely bloated (on top of the baby blump) and uncomfortable. I'm at work, but having so much trouble actually working I'm so uncomfortable.

    Questions? None

GTKY: What was your first car? The first car that was all my own and not shared with my twin sister was a '91 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser Station Wagon. I loved that car, even though it was huge and I'm 5'1" so it completely dwarfed me. When I nannied, the backwards in the back seats were a big hit.
  • Weeks: 11+5

Next milestone/appointment? NT scan on May 11 at 13 weeks

Rant/Rave/Anything else:  I seem to be feeling generally crappier than I was earlier in the pregnancy. I am really really hoping for the magical "I feel awesome" second tri. Also, I feel like my NT scan can't get here soon enough. I wish it was sooner.

    Questions? Not really.

GTKY: What was your first car? Navy blue Ford Explorer SportTrac. I loved that truck.

Next milestone/appointment? My next appt is May 26th.

Rant/Rave/Anything else:  I had an awesome monthly appt last Thursday with the NP.  I wasn't sure she would use dopplar, but when I got there u/s was set up.  The little babe was wiggling and flipping all around :-)  I also got blood drawn for Counsyl (my NIPT).

    Questions? Nope

GTKY: What was your first car? When my sister and I were in high school, we got a '76 green Volvo names Thankful Arnold.  He was a disaster, but we loved him!  It had been my older brother's car, but my brother crashed a friend's motorcycle I think, and didn't have the $ to pay for repairs.  So my parents gave him the $, and he gave them the car.

Next milestone/appointment? Genetic testing a week from Friday

Rant/Rave/Anything else: Nothing really, just realizing I still kind of have a negative reaction to finding out people are pregnant, which is weird and makes me feel like a nasty person.

    Questions?

GTKY: What was your first car? 96 Civic hatchback, GREAT college car. Got it pre-dented so I didn't care and got really good at parallel parking it into some ridiculously tight spaces because I was too cheap for a parking permit. It had over 100k on it when I did get rid of it but it never broke down on me or gave me any major issues- just needed to replace this or that from time to time.

  • @FiancB I totally get it... A new girl just started at my work with almost the exact same due date as me and my first thought was, you are totally stealing my thunder! Ha ha. She is super nice and I already like her, but when I found out she was pregnant I was not instantly happy for her like I should have been. Its OK, we are all just human after all ;)
  • @FiancB I feel the same way. Two of my old coworkers just announced that they are due this fall. I want to be just happy, but I'm not. I think it's one of those "old habits die hard" kind of things. It's been years since I've been able to just be happy about someone being pregnant and not even a little bit negative. Hopefully that goes away because I don't like feeling that way at all.

All of this^^^^ One of my best friends is due the week before me and all of my other good friends are either pregnant or doing FET this spring. All I can think about is how horrible it will be if I lose this baby because I will have to avoid my best friends. I spend way more time dwelling on the worst case scenario than the best case scenario- lots of playmates for my baby!

ETA I will say that my hatred/ inability to deal with my friends/family who have due dates around my last due date (June) has dissipated the last month or so, so I do have faith that this can get better eventually.

100% agree with all of that. My sister is 8 weeks ahead of me (getting her news shortly after my loss was a crazy emotional rollercoaster) and I'm so excited to have cousins so close in age, but if I have another loss I will have to distance myself from my sister and I don't know how I could even do that. But we'll go with positive thinking for now!!  :)
  • I love seeing everyone breezing past their milestones and starting to enter the second trimester safely!

    Weeks:
     10+4

Next milestone/appointment? May 12, NT scan and Harmony bloodwork

Rant/Rave/Anything else:  Told my family this weekend! Mostly great, although my step-mother was overly enthusiastic around my sister who is struggling through IVF (I had told this sister weeks ago), so I felt bad about that. We tell husbands family this weekend.

    Questions?

GTKY: What was your first car? The all-new 2002 Pontiac Sunfire in Midnight Blue. My grandparents had a lot of GM credit, so it made the new car pretty cheap, and a lucky gift for me. I loved having a sunroof and sporty little car and my dad loved my having a small 2 door car guaranteeing I wouldn't be the one hauling all of my friends around all of the time. It survived until 2009 when a doofus totaled it while it was parked on the side of the street in front of DH's house.

    Weeks: 10+2

Next milestone/appointment? Scheduling NT scan for May 20th hopefully

Rant/Rave/Anything else: had my first OB appointment on Friday (only RE ultrasound was at 6+2). My OB is awesome and when we arrived I was happily surprised she had us in the actual ultrasound room with the good machine instead of just an exam room with a crappy ultrasound that just makes everything look like a blob. Baby was growing well and even waved at us. It felt so good to have confirmation I passed my loss milestone.

Questions? Anyone do NT and cell free blood test? My insurance covers the NT (not sure about the blood tests), so we do that bc it gives us another peak at baby. My OB likes the blood test better bc it covers more and is more accurate. When I told her we definitely doing NT, she said we could always do both. Then after, when meeting with the nurse, the nurse said they were practically the same thing so there was no point in doing both. Now, I don't know what I want to do. I guess my first move is calling to see if any of the blood tests are covered by insurance too.

GTKY: What was your first car? 1994 Saturn SL2. I loved it! My parents bought it expecting it to last a year or two and it ended up lasting over 5 until I got a new car and my sister got the Saturn and totaled it within 2 weeks.
  • chloe97chloe97 member
@blyn627 I'm doing both the free-cell and the NT scan. I'm not sure why my Dr ordered both- I got the impression that the NT scan also looked for other things that aren't related to what the blood test was looking for, but I could be wrong.
  • @BLyn627 My doctor also ordered both the NT scan and free cell blood test. I'm not sure why, but I won't mind the up close look and immediate feedback from the NT.

@BLyn627 - 2 years ago I did the free cell and the NT scan.  This time my doc said they only do one or the other.  The NT scan doesn't have near the level of accuracy as the free cell, and the free cell is covered for me because I am AMA, so I am sticking with that one and skipping the NT.

  • @chloe97 the NT scan can check for the possibility of open neural tube defects which are not tested for on the cell-free DNA tests (as they're typically not genetic but random events).

Thanks, ladies! I still haven't had time to call my insurance, but I doubt I'm lucky enough for them to cover both. I'll also have to check on the different cell-free test providers to see how much each costs if insurance doesn't cover.
  • This next week is going to suck for me. I had a cervical check and length measurement last Friday at the MFM and all looked good, so no cerclage yet. My next check is in a week (Friday 5/13) and I'm already getting very antsy leading up to it. Last time my water broke very suddenly at 14 weeks, and it just feels like an eternity between appointments. I'm trying not to worry. My next appointment will still be prior to 14 weeks, so that makes me feel a little better. But I feel like I'm going to be just nervous all week long.
  • chloe97chloe97 member
@CecilTheBear I'm sorry you're going through this! Milestones are hard. I know that once I got through my milestone and saw a great heartbeat on the screen, I felt so much better. I'm not the best to be giving the advice, because I'm freaking out about my own appointment this week, but try focusing only on today and leave your worrying about the appointment for the day of the appointment. Easier said than done, I know.
  • @CecilTheBear - we're in the same boat right now! Everything looked great at my NT scan and with my OB yesterday, but I'm headed up to CPMC on Tuesday to meet with the perinatologist RE: potential cerclage. We know 100% that my pPROM wasn't due to a shortened or incompetent cervix, so I know a cerclage is probably not needed. Then I'm back up there for a cervical stress-test at 16w.

The next 8w between now and 20w is going to be tough and stressful. Every day that passes I'm thankful for. My loss milestone is on 5/30 and if I can just get through that and beyond, I'll feel successful.

Thoughts and prayers going out to you, as we move through these next few weeks!!

Hopefully we can keep each other sane!
  • Hi, I'm Jessica. Due 11/24 with our third but this is our 8th pregnacy. I have low progesterone issues, mthfr, factor v and have gone into preterm labor with both of my kiddos. I also had hyperemesis with my youngest. So far, this has been my least dramatic pregnancy and I'm hoping to keep it that way!

I'm 11 weeks 2 days and only have to supplement progesterone for 5 more days!!

I have my 12 week appt this Wednesday and will get passed our latest loss milestone, which is a big deal for me. We will also get the harmony done and see what we are having!

My first car was a red 93 grand am that I was given by my grandparents after they went down to one vehicle. It was 7 years old when I got it but it was impeccably maintained. Loved it!
