8 Months/ Not wanting Solids

I EBF, my DS will be 8 months tomorrow. I try every day with solids, he may take a bite or two but then won't take anymore. He isn't scheduled for his next pedi visit until 9 months. Has anyone else gone through this or have advice with their baby not wanting to eat solids?
On a good note he will probably start crawling any day now!!

Re: 8 Months/ Not wanting Solids

  • Are you trying purees, BLW or a mix of both? What sort of things have you offered?

  • My LO is the same way! 7 months on the 24th, wants nothing to do with purees! I diced a banana the other day and she feed herself though!  I think we are going right to diced foods she can do herself!

My 7.5 month old hasn't done more than a few bites of anything. I've tried purees, only will take a few bites and same with pouches. I've tried cutting up soft things to let her feed herself and all she does is pick it up and throw it on the floor. I've given her small bites and she'll eat them, but not more than a few. It stresses me out because her pedi schooled me for get not eating much. Like its my fault!
  • Mine's 7 months and barely gets down a few bites a day too. He's EBF and we're doing blw though I have tried some purees too. I wouldn't worry too much about it now, even if pedis are giving you grief. They are learning and getting familiar with food, which can take some time. It will click eventually if you keep offering and letting them experiment. Not every baby is ready to eat at the same time. The majority of their nutrition still comes from milk/formula anyway, so the benefits of whatever they do experience with food right now are more developmental as they start out. Sounds like you're doing a great job, just keep trying and letting them get used to it!
  • I found if I mix cereal in with the purees little man is much happier eating it.

  • This is my little guy for the past several weeks and man have I been stressed over it! This post was a lifesaver... So glad I'm not alone. He went from refusing absolutely all food to gobbling and now back to refusal again. I tried some diced up avocado last night and some puffs. He mostly drops them on the floor but attempts to self feed. I can get a few spoons of purrees in between his bites. I guess based on all these responses we can consider it normal.
  • my DS is 8 months next week and didn't really love purees but LOVES food ge can hold and organic avocado is his favorite, I cut it in big chunks and he goes to town. I wouldn't worry about solids, they will eat when they're ready and breastmilk is all they really need till a year
  • thanks ladies ! It hasn't let me respond to any of your comments until today. I am glad to know it can be normal!
