Measuring ahead

Had an ultrasound a few days ago and baby was right on track, measurements all within a few days of EDD. Then yesterday at my OB appt I was told my fundal measurement is quite a bit ahead so they moved up my sugar test since it could be a sign of diabetes. I don't get it! How could that measuring tape even be accurate! Anyone else measuring ahead?

Re: Measuring ahead

  • I am 27 weeks and measuring a head at 30, my OB didn't seem overly concerned about it tho when I asked her she just said sometimes that can happen

Same here. Been measuring about 2 wks ahead since 20wks. My sugars tested fine  (TG)-since I've already had to take it 3x this pregnancy! Docs says could be a myriad of things...the LO is larger or just a growth spurt, or its how I'm carrying him, or he'll come early. Gee thanks. So I'll hurry up and wait to see. Lol

  • Me too, i am measuring a 27w and i am currently 25w4d and doctor schedule an ultrasound after my appt to find out my baby is just long and has a big head and for diabetes test i passed as well Thank God.
  • I was told this week I'm measuring a week ahead too. 24, measuring 25. My OB told me to just watch my carb intake. I have a family history of very large babies. My DH and I were both 9.8lbs. My older brother 9.9, younger brother was 10 lbs. And DH's sister was 9lbs. Everytime we go in she is measuring ahead which doesn't surprise me although I'm worried I'm going to fail my glucose test in three weeks.

  • Totally normal to measure a bit ahead, or even a bit behind - all babies grow different and have growth spurts at different times.  With DD sometimes I was measuring right on track and sometimes I was measuring weeks ahead.  It's not really an indicator or much of anything.  As for the glucose test, you're going to have to do it anyway, so why not check it off the list!  You'll probably be fine, just because a baby is big doesn't mean you have GD.  When DD was born she was a week early and almost 10 lbs and I can't tell you how many times the nurses and pediatrician asked if I had GD, and I didn't - in fact, I wasn't even close.  My numbers both times (because I have PCOS they did an early test at 17 weeks) I took the 1 hr test were in the 90s - the cutoff for my docs was in the 130s I believe - so not even close.  I just made a big baby!

  • Our little girl has been measuring about 5 days- a week early since 12 weeks. When I was measured last week I was measuring at 26 weeks when I was only 25. This is new for me as well as I was measuring smaller with my first DD. I think this is normal.
