I saw someone posted pics of it yesterday -- it looks giant. I'm guessing it comes from $$ from all the media they expose the family to, right? Seems awfully large for a single family income in Central PA.

Re: Does NE1 know how Jon & Kate can afford that big new house?
what she said! ... oh andI love your siggy pic! they are tooooooo cute in their tutu's!
So is John not working than?
Still NC. Thats a nice house for that kind of money in NC.
FYI, Jon doesn't work anymore. They get paid lots of $$ for the show, and they also speak at churches almost everyweekend, where they are paid an enormous fee, plus a "love offering" from the audience (they also sell pics and books). Also, think about how much extra money you'd have if all of your kids' clothes were donated, your car was free, your vacations were paid for, etc.... Everything on that show is sponsored now. What a joke that show has become.
Okay...this is a pet peeve of mine.
I live in Central PA. They don't. Seriously. They don't. They live in Berks County, in the eastern part of the state. Practically on top of Philadelphia and Jersey.
I hate when they say they are from Central PA. It's like they're saying they are from Middle America, like it makes them more real. It doesn't. Berks County has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state, and one of the highest income levels.
Frankly, this makes the cost of their McMansion all the more outlandish. If they truly lived in Central PA, they could probably have paid for it themselves. We looked at a 6-bedroom house that was absolutely gorgeous, and it was just $140,000. We bought our three bedroom for $30,000, and after two years of work and adding a finished basement, it's now appraised at $70,000.
Sorry...it just drives me crazy. Psycho episode over.
HOLY CRAP! I'm going to move out there and live by you, Lori. I can telecommute with my job... I'd be rich with a Seattle salary in that area!
some are saying its Berks Cty.. some are saying NC? I live in NC which is why I'm so curious.
I really do like the show. Yes they make money for doing the show. And yes the show comes with a lot of incentives, giveaways and free ***. But that is just part of reality tv. I could care less about who paid for the house, what they do for a living, or what part of PA they live in. I watch the show and take it for what it is meant to be taken as : entertainment, and an oppurtunity to see what its like to have 8 kids and a tv show.
I just think its wrong for people to say that they are undeserving. They have allowed America to watch every second (just about) of their lives, so so what TLC gave them a damn house. Get over it and yourselves!
They have found a way to make a difficult situation ( having 8 kids) work for them ( get a tv show )!
I don't consider anyone who had multiples twice as a result of fertility treatments to be put upon by the forces of the universe. (Sorry, Jody, but then, somehow, I bet you don't see your kids as a "difficult situation" you have to make the best of.)
Frankly, the McCaughey septuplets are 10 now. They're on the freaking cover of Ladies Home Journal every Christmas. Does anyone not realize that fertility treatments can translate to a whole lot of kids? I am just guessing, those of you with IF feel free to correct me, but I bet that's spelled out on the paperwork somewhere. Probably in bold and italics and possibly a little asterisk next to it.
If you go through treatments and have six kids because of it, I don't feel bad for what you're going through. You asked for it. I don't know why people want to watch them. My sister just loves them, but they make me ill.
I think it's the fact that they are exploiting their children for money that annoys everyone. Also the fact that they claim to be a struggling family with only 1 income & thats not the case anymore. Now they have enough money to live comfortably so what the show originally started out as is no longer that.
That is what annoys people.
I only had multiples once as a result of IF treatments... the first time was just luck
I liked them in the beginning when they were real people struggling to figure out how to deal with sextuplets and twins. I mean, c'mon, that's nuts. I can't even imagine it and I'll bet you that I'd be crankier than Kate. But, now, it's just one big sponsorship and most of the episodes aren't even of just their lives, it's all weird trips places and stuff. It's just not fun to watch. And the kids are so old now that it is less interesting than the idea of all those babies!
I also don't like that they continuously misrepresent their financial situation. Not cool. I'd take all the stuff they are offered in a heartbeat, but I wouldn't try to tell people I'm poor. Or pretend that I am alone with 8 kids all day when I had a chef, nannies, etc. The show really doesn't portray their daily life at all... it's so fake, it's lame.
Personally, even if I was pg with 6 babies, I wouldn't have reduced either. And we transferred 4 embryos this time, so it is conceivably possible with two splitting. That said, higher order multiples are rare to begin with in IVF and IUI and anything past triplets is insanely rare. They admit that they went in knowing they had to be ok with twins or trips but I don't think most people expect six! My RE only has a 2% triplets rate and nothing higher.
Ok, I'm rambling.
Agreed. It's definitely the fairly blatant lying that's irritating to me, and heII, I don't even watch the freaking show.
And I apologize to Jody for implying that more than two of her 38 children are the result of fertility treatments. Mea culpa.
I think " expoliting " is a strong word. The entertainment business is FULL of children. That doesnt mean they are being exploited. And I have never heard J or K say that they are a struggling family. And if they do consider themselves a struggling family it isnt financially. But the struggles of being a parent x8 def. constitutes "struggling".
And as far as I'm concerned if you have 8 kids you are NEVER living comfortably; especially not financially. The show cant go on forever, and they will still have to pay 8 college tuitions, buy 8 first cars, etc. I think they are setting themselves up so that when these kids are 17 and are no longer on tv, the fact that they were on tv for the first chunk of their lives will pay off. And I cant be mad @ that.
Ditto Lori.
Californai and New York have tight child labor laws in place that specifically protect child performers.
North Carolina and Arkansas have no such protections. Guess where our fav two TV realtity big families are soon to be filming ;P
the website for the house pics does say Pa if I remember correctly. As far as them being undeserving- they are at this point. If you read how demanding kate is and how she axed Jodi and Beth off the show and refused for them to be paid. All the free things they get now - i read she has an organic chef that cooks their meals. Neither of them work and they go on great trips , free clothes, etc. She demanded alot of charity if you read up on them. Just last year they were getting help with their heating bill. There are alot of families that have 6 kids - and struggle with everyday life - she should be thankful and try to bless as many people that are around them and helped them when they weren't on the show making money !!!! Its not normal to have NO FAMILY around. Their wedding in Hawaii was sad. All they had was Jons family that he had not seen in like 15 years.. no friends and real family ..... sad if you ask me !!!! I hope they are still happy when the kids grow up and get their own friends.. what will they do then....
