Cluster Feeding?

LO is officially 3 weeks old and, from what I can tell via Google search, is beginning cluster feeding.
He typically will feed every 3.5-4 hours, usually drinking 3-4oz per feed.
Tonight he just didn't seem to get satisfied. He is eating every hour at least.  He's demanding more milk each time and is almost instantaneously hungry as soon as we put him down.
I keep reading this is normal around this time frame. Anyone else experiencing this and, if so, how long does it last? Any tips for survival?

Re: Cluster Feeding?

  • This lasted maybe 4 days for E. If you are nursing, I strongly suggest side-lying, which I just discovered and it's saving my sanity. Either way, remember that this is a very short phase!

  • My LO is almost 4 weeks and she's still eating every 1.5 hours. (Except at night it's every 3 or so)It's crazy. Hopefully it chills out soon so I can keep my sanity

Same here. Except it's anywhere between 1.5 - 3 hours throughout the day and LO is 5 weeks old.

Um...my LO came out of the womb cluster feeding in the evenings and hasn't stopped. She's 3 weeks today. I won't lie, its rough on my nerves and sanity. Not sure if I'll be able to handle it if it continues.

  • Mine started to same thing around 3 weeks, it lasted for about 4 days straight but same than she only does it when she is working on a poop or right before bed.

Same. We're 2w 2d old and she nurses non-stop basically from 1-4A and has since she came out. It's exhausting.  :|
  • This is also us.  I swear the only reason I am keeping my sanity is because I have an excuse to binge watch shows without feeling too bad about doing frozen pizza for dinner or why the  dishes aren't done.

  • So this should last a few days?

I'm having to nurse, pump and supplement formula to meet his demand. I felt guilty at first for adding formula to the mix, but he's getting what he needs and it keeps me a little more sane.
Hopefully I can cut it out once this cluster feeding ends.....

Are you using a pacifier? That may be a way to stretch feedings out enough for you to not have to use formula. The pacifier is my saving grace because E has a need to nurse (very roughly) when she poops.
  • No, we aren't using a pacifier :-/
