Comments from ppl abt being huge

2nd pregnancy, 10 lbs heavier than with my first pregnancy...I have ppl I know and strangers commenting on how I have quite the belly already, I'm going to have a sizeable baby and I look like I'm ready to pop. At 17 wks, I am feeling bigger than the first pregnancy at this time, but I'm also super sensitive to this right now. Anyone else having this issue???

Re: Comments from ppl abt being huge

  • Im in a similar boat too.3rd pregnancy and showing a lot more then my first two. I look at least 24 weeks and im going to be 15 tomorrow. My family keeps asking if it's twins, which it's not, or if I am way off on my due date. It's upsetting at times you know. You are already frustrated for being so big so quick to have to deal with the jokes and comments sometimes makes you want to snap!

  • I'm a FTM, but I think my checking out the HDBD thread, you can see that many of the STMs are showing a bit more than the FTMs.  I'm sorry people are making comments, they are just rude.  You probably are a bit bigger this time around because your muscles are not as tight in your torso and/or your body knows what is happening and is getting ready for what it knows is to come.  Keep your chin up!
  • I'm so sorry people are being rude to you. Personally I'd be tempted to tell them to fuck off. You're not being sensitive but I'd say try not to let their mindlessness bother you!
  • Yep, I almost hesitate to tell people how far along I am because I know I look larger than a lot of people at my same stage.  I got a huge belly with my first though, and I'm sure I will with this one.  People forget that just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you suddenly don't care about your size.  I hate it too, but I try to remind myself that everyone carries differently and to not worry about people's assy comments.  Easier said than done sometimes.

  • I remember when I was 26 weeks pregnant with my son, some twat asked me if I was sure I wasn't carrying twins. I wanted to punch her. And cry. And eat a quart of Baskin Robbins. I can't believe people think it's in their right to comment on how big (or in some cases small) you look during your pregnancy. It's like people lack common sense, decency, tact... Or a brain. Every woman grows at different rates, and we're all different shapes and sizes. As long as your doctor has no concern, no one else should even think about your size. The only comment should be how beautiful you look because pregnancy is a beautiful thing!

  • The only comment I've gotten has been from my mother.  A very "tactful" "you ARE getting quite the belly aren't you!?"     Thanks mom.  As the only chick in my family who has busted my butt to lose weight instead of just paying for a procedure...  thanks.

OP, check out the comments from strangers thread in May '16.  Might make you feel better.  I will say it gets worse the further along you are.  I almost didn't want to leave the house my last several weeks of pregnancy with my first because of the stares and comments.

  • I've heard some comments on my weight... Like, "Has your doctor given you a limit yet?" and, "well, you sure are eating for two!". It does not make me a happy camper. However, my doctor says I'm right on track... try not to listen to the jerks.

  • Yes I'm a Chubby Mommy which normal I'm cool with. I went to my Dr's last month and my nurse yes the nurse gave me trouble for putting on 5 lbs in a month I had gained nothing before that I wanted to smack the evil look off her face. Instead I asked my doctor who informed me 5 lbs in the first trimester was fine but to cut out potatoes white bread sugar and white rice I was fine with that since I hate white bread.
People need to watch what they say to sensitive pregnant women they are likely to get hurt.
  • People are shitty. I've only gotten two comments from my mother ("baby girl is getting big!" and "You must be retaining water, you look puffy.") and one from my husband ("you are showing much earlier. another huge belly?") in my husbands case it was fine because I do get a huge during pregnancy. My mother I ignored.

Last time I was getting the comments about if I'm sure it's not twins or if they got my due date right at 7 and a half months. I quickly learned that silence was a better answer in those situations and was able to let it roll of my back as much as possible but it still sucked. I know it's coming earlier this time. Last time I gained everything directly in my stomach and no where else, which is both a blessing and a curse. Easier to lose if it's all water weight and baby but harder to carry around and deal with when you have 30 pounds straight out.

My MW lectured me gently about limiting weight gain because I'm an overweight VBAC candidate so I've been vigilant about my choices and have been doing okay, but when that scale starts tipping and people notice it's going to suck.

  • Had someone tell me the other day that I'm "lucky" because I no longer had to suck my belly in! I can just let it all go!! Truthfully, I can't suck my belly in...I've tried but it just doesn't budge! I'm 18 1/2 weeks and already look 6 month preggers, but seriously!!!

When I wore maternity clothes to church for the first time several weeks ago a lady came up to me and asked if I'm already showing or just fat! Where does this rudeness come from?

Don't people know better than to comment to an emotional, hormonal, pregnant woman about her weight??

I'm having a similar kind of issue. I'm not getting that big around, but my boobs are getting HUGE. I know they are huge, I'm frustrated that they are huge, and frustrated that I'm having difficulty finding clothes that fit. So my husband made a few comments last night on how my boobs are so big, and I almost lost my shit with him. I had to sternly tell him to nix the comments about my breasts for good.

I don't really have any advice, but I certainly commiserate.  People are jerks.

  • People need to be a little more considerate of others feelings.

When I was pregnant with my first I was a substitute teacher. One day I was in a middle school classroom and this girl asked me "if I was pregnant or just fat" those were her exact words! I was about 8 months at the time and I am a pretty petite person so it was pretty obvious that I was pregnant. I was so stunned that she would ask like that.
  • I always find it incredibly amazing how complete strangers will ask how far along you are and then comment, whoa, you're really big, is it twins?  Do I go up to people and say, hmm....maybe you should lay off that cookie you're eating because you clearly don't need it?  No, because it's none of my business not to mention rude.

With my DD I gained 37 pounds and I swear that 90% of that weight was just in my stomach.  The same is happening with this pregnancy.  I don't think that people think before speaking.  Let's all think up some clever one liners to start saying to strangers.   ;)

  • I have had two different people comment in an insanely condescending manner about me having twins. As in they suggested I was having twins when I was only 12 weeks and sooo bloated, when I said nope only one baby and my doctor said it's just because I have had other babies/pregnancies, she said with a winky face on FB "I am sure she was just trying to be sweet and not alarm you but there are two in there". If I could virtually punch someone via FB I would!

Oh, and then literally after I posted my response, a girl in my class said, "Oh, your belly just gets bigger and bigger every week!" I said, "Well, that's bound to happen when you're growing a baby."

My MIL keeps making a huge deal about my belly size every time she sees me. A couple weeks ago at 16 weeks she made me stand up in the middle of a restaurant so I could "show off my bump" to a woman I don't know. Then she made a lovely comment about how she can't wait to see how big I am when she sees me next (in 2 weeks!). I know she's just excited but still, makes me super self-conscious.

You guys are all awesome! As I wrote this post a few nights ago, I was literally sobbing (damn hormones) and you guys all made me feel so much better and validated my point that ppl are just asses that don't think abt how wonderful it is that we are carrying babies inside us and instead focus on our size of our bellies.
  • Only from my brothers, but of course their intentions are to offend, so I'm like "Bye Felicia". Everybody else thinks my belly looks cute. And *so far* no judgemental judgers have asked me how far along I am. I think if they do, I'll just say 5'-3".
  • I totally am---I am 18 weeks and really showing a alot, even more than with my twins. People are asking me and MH, "are you SURE there isn't more than 1 in there."  MH even asked if I was supposed to be as big as I was at 13 weeks.

I hate it, and it takes some of the fun of being pregnant and enjoying stretchy pants away.  I do feel better about it as I get further along, but even before I even announced pregnancy (12 weeks), people were asking other people if I was pregnant. How rude.

I also started about 10 lbs. heavier this time and am short at 5'3", and I am a big girl.  Oh well, such is life.

  • My mother...ugh.

She told me "remember you're having a girl and she's only supposed to be around 7 lbs so watch the food intake" after I sent her a picture of my belly after eating 2 servings of rice. I wanted to punch her.
  • I'd love to say that I'd punch or severely chastise said person, but in reality I'd probably be too shocked to do anything. WTF how can people be so rude?
I'm just waiting for a comment, especially if I see people towards the end of the day. The bump isn't too bad in the mornings, but once I add Peanut's food twin to the mix I look pretty prominent by the afternoon.

I did have someone at work get overly concerned because I was leaning something against my belly - I told her that it was just my muffin top and that baby was still pretty well insulated. Dude, I'm not going to squish my baby.

I'm not really big yet, and a FTM so not showing much at 16 weeks.  My boobs, however, seem to have gotten the brunt of the weight gain so far.  This morning I was trying to decide if I should switch to my maternity uniform (military), and decided I can get away with my regular one that was pretty big on me before for another couple of days.  One of our senior officers came up to me this morning, and first made some comment about how she heard I wasn't eating my snacks or drinking enough water from several people, which upset me because why are people diming me out, and my diet and water intake isn't THAT bad!  Then I replied that I was doing fine, and this was probably one of the last days before I have to wear my maternity uniform, and she looks straight at my chest and said that judging from my top I should have switched to the maternity shirt long ago!  I know it's not about the belly, but I think commenting about my large chest is just as tacky!

I finally had one of these types of comments the other day.  The cat is finally out of the bag at work and one of the secretaries was complaining about how I didn't tell her I was pregnant (the only person I told was my boss unless someone specifically asked).  I havent really gained much weight yet but everything has shifted around and I definitely have a more obvious belly now...

Anyway, she asked me how far along I was and when I told her I was 18 weeks, she proceeded to say she would have guessed I was MUCH further along and that she felt like she should tell me that because I shouldn't gain too much weight.  WTF?!

Third pregnancy too and my family thought it was hilarious to comment that I must be having twins. People are such assholes (ps. I'm 16 weeks and I've gained 5lbs and can still fit into my size 4 jeans- so WTF). Gah. Hormones!
