Dada?! (Vent)

So LO has started babbling and he goes between saying bebebebebe and dadadadada.
I don't know if he's actually saying dada or not but his daddy sure does and he is eating it up but I'm just like really?!? I mean dude I carried you for 9 months...went through hell for you! I'm the one who does everything! Feeds you, bathes you, plays with you. The one who has bleeding boobies because teething and breastfeeding sucks but I keep doing it because I know that's what's best for you! The one who doesn't sleep because your up all night and daddy won't get up with you. And you're gonna say Dada first?!?!

sorry for the rant! I just needed to get that out!

My daughter says Dada all day long, and I think she now realizes it's him because she can make several other noises but chants dadada when she sees DH. She onlys says mum mum mum if she's crying or pitching a fit lol.

I feel you here. I take care if her 96% and she is always so excited to see daddy. Mommy is just the milk machine lately.

DD1 said Dadadad weeks before mama. He loved it, and I didn't mind because at the time he could barely hold her without her screaming. She liked to watch him, from my arms

This time I got a "mamama" a few weeks ago while she was reaching for me as I walked away. Naturally, I picked her up to celebrate, and now she says it a lot. DH was disappointed, but I'm thrilled we evened the score haha!

My lo hums alot mmmm mmmm when he's upset now sometimes it's mmmmmmmom like the mom part just blurts out its funny. My husband refuses to acknowledge he's actually saying mom because lo doesn't know it's meaning

Lol same thing over here - we aren't positive that he has fully connected the word to the person, but we get frequent "dada" and "dahdee" babbles. He kinda makes a "mama" sound when he cries, but I think that's just his crying noise.

Mine says dada all day, but he does recognize that it means my husband. He only says ma or mom when he's upset and wants me. At least he says it though!

Both of mine said dada first. lol DD#1 did it on our first Mother's Day! It's fine, though. The sound is easier to make.

Dada tends to be more common first, I think it's easier. My LO says dada but I don't think he associates it with DH. DH and I do not give credit for words easily though lol. It took us forever to decide what DS1's first word was because he said things but we weren't convinced he was associating them with what they were.

My son said mama a 5 months and my husband was soooooo jealous. This time though, our daughter is almost 8 months and she says dada but has never said mama. So you just never know!

In the same boat here! He may say dada but he does not associate it yet. I keep telling myself when he says momma he will know it's me and not be a babble

Maybe I'm alone here. Baby isn't making consonant sounds yet, but I'm totally encouraging him to say dada first. I figure I got to carry him 9 months, I get to have the unique bond that stems from being the milk factory, and I get to spend way more time with baby than dada does. Don't get me wrong, these things all have their sucky moments, but they are uniquely my experiences and dada gets nothing that even comes close, so I kind of want him to get the first word.

We are a little over 8 months and LO says Dada and Mama BUT when he says Dada, it's always happy and joyful. When he says mama, it's because he needs something or when he's cranky. Lol.

DD has been saying dada for awhile but it's ok because she doesn't associate it with DH. Literally everything is dada. DH is sweet and keeps trying to get her to say mama and associate that with me. I'm hoping I hear it on Mother's Day!!!

My son does the same. My husband says LO says dada and my dad hears "tata" of course lol.
Whatever LO is trying to say it is the cutest thing ever!

I think dada is just easier to say. That is what DD said first, but this weekend she just started saying mama!!!! I think she is trying to say "kit kit" also (thats what we call our cat, lol)

The "d" sound typically comes first. Don't sweat it! It's just easier for baby to say and at the phase not likely he/she is even connecting it to your husband.

My LO doesn't say either yet, but he does babble all day long. He has accidently said words like 'again, hi, why, we, meow' LOL It's so funny when he babbles and says a word that he has no idea he's saying!!!!

I would say and repeat mama alllllll the time to baby, he said it at 3 1/2 months, no lie, dad was there and heard and we were sooooo excited.. i was damned if he was gonna say dada first!! Lol... but don't worry he will soon be able to decipher who is who and know that mama is 'the bomb' lol keep up all the good hard work mama

My daughter says dada more often than mama. But I'm pretty sure that's just her call for me because she only says it when she wants me lol. Mama seems to come out when she wants foods and/or is eating.

I wouldn't worry. You are definitely the favorite right now

My lo says "baba" which isn't either mamma or dada! It's what the grandkids call my DAD! But I'm ok with it. He loves loves my dad and that melts my heart.

One day, they'll say "mamma" and you'll say "SHE'S NOT HOME!"

My son keeps babbling dadadadada too, but we don't think it counts as a first word since he's not directing it at Daddy.
I've got daycare helping me out with 'Mom' too. I mean, 10 months of pregnancy, 36 hours of labor, looks exactly like his father, spends almost all of his time with me, clings to me, 'Mom' should be his first word!

I think it's pretty rare for a baby to say their first word at 7 or 8 months. This thread is just full of those who have. My son babbles and says things that sound like words but there just him practicing sounds and don't hold any meaning to him. He doesn't make the connection between sounds and objects yet. I think it's usually closer to a year.
