Water birth?

Hey ladies,
Im 32 weeks
Im planning for an all natural water birth wondering if anyone els is doing this or if anyone has done it in the past and what there experiences were.
(And yes i know not everythin goes as planned all the time and that its going to hurt)

Re: Water birth?

  • I'm planning on this too! I'm pretty excited!
  • Loading the player...
  • I plan on aiming for a water birth as well but even if I get to labor in the water I'll be happy.
  • I haven't had a water birth, so have nothing to add really... But I so wish I could! DD was an unplanned c-section because she was breech, and this baby is breech so far as well. Water birth isn't an option at my hospital, although they have a tub you can labor in. I'm so hoping baby flips so I can have a shot at laboring in the tub!!
  • I wish I could have one, but it's not an option where I am. I hope you get to have yours. I hear they are amazing
  • I haven't had a water birth, but I did labor in the big tub with my first. I had horrid back labor and the tub was amazing! Best wishes and I hope you're able to have the delivery that you want!

I'm hoping for one this time and chose a hospital that will do them.  I couldn't have one with my first (preemie/emergency) but I'd planned to have one and originally wanted to use a birthing center.  I did use my shower last time because they sent me home from the hospital and it helped so much I'm even more hopeful this time that I'll at least get to labor, if not deliver, in the tub.
  • My first was supposed to be a natural water birth at a birth centre but there were complications and my midwife transferred me to the hospital 10 hours into labour. But the time I spent in the water was greatly appreciated. I didn't feel I needed pain relief until I got to the hospital and was stressed out and put onto a bed instead of in the nice calming tub.

This time I'm trying again with a home birth and a birth pool. Fingers crossed!
  • I hope your able to i have heard only great things about water biryhs and i hope it all works out the way we are hoping  it will!
  • My babys breech as of now aswell but my midwife and dr have given me faith that she should flip by the time shes ready to come. So im hoping and praying she doeas!!
  • I am hoping for it, but my hospital only has 1 tub. I have a good chance at getting it but i am trying not to get my heart set it on it!

Lots of time for it to happen still! With my first she flipped at around 35 weeks. It was really obvious and cool when it happened :)
  • I cheaped out on the birth pool option, so no water birth for me, but I look forward to hearing about how it goes for you! Last time (in the hospital) I specifically went to lengths to get a room with a tub, then didn't end up using it because labor progressed pretty quickly and by the time I wanted it, I was already practically pushing. I'm still slightly miffed about that.

Aw, good luck! I am so jealous and I really hope you get to experience that :)

@BlueJuice I also registered last time and specifically requested the waterbirth room, did an online class they require and partially picked the hospital I did because they allowed waterbirth.  The night I came in for my emergency birth, it was crazy and they were packed far more than usual.  I ended up delivering on a random hospital bed they grabbed, in my clothes still.... in the waterbirth room, looking at the birthing tub as I lay on my back in a bed, because all the "regular" rooms were full.  Well played, universe, well played.  This time, I've been very specific.  I no longer say "I really want to give birth in the waterbirth room, and I've started saying I really want a waterbirth."  Just so there's no confusion this time.
  • Yes--- I've only labored and birthed in the water at home with all mine, so I have nothing to compare it to, but we are planning our fourth in about six weeks. Where will you be? (Home/birth center/hospital?)

I've had fabulous experiences and can truly say that I LOVED my births and am so looking forward to the next one.

Do you have any specific questions?

  • I'm hoping for a water birth at my birthing center as well. Water just relaxes me.

  • I have no experience and I'm not planning a water birth, but when I toured where I'll give birth this time, every room has a tub for laboring--BUT they don't let you even labor in there if your water's broken. I thought it might be helpful to mention to anyone who's seeking that option--so you can clarify what your facility's policies are.

  • I am planning on this too. My place has both the big rubber tub and the jacuzzi tub. The big rubber one is that blue one that is cushy. Some things of note:

    1. I do not believe my place has any mechanism to keep the water warm in the big tub. So I was told by another (inexperienced) woman that you save this until the end. Otherwise the water will obviously get cold. Maybe you won't care in June though, bc it will just go down to the temp of the room.

    2. A friend said that "they were done with the water" by the time they got to active labor. So it was nice in the beginning, but she needed something hard to push against.

    That's all I got!
