How does your baby wake up?

When Luke wakes up whether overnight or first thing in the morning he wakes up crying, "screaming", and super freaking grumpy typically waking the whole house.

My dear friend said he son wakes up all smiles and giggles and laughing and ooooohhing and aaaawwwweeing and I feel like that's false. Lol.

How can I make him wake up in the morning happy? Lol. Seriously he's so damn grumpy!  I can't be the only one who has a baby that's a grump in the morning. Right?!

Our wake ups vary from day to day.  Some mornings he is happy as can be, others he is a little sour puss.  Usually on his grumpy mornings he is waking with some gas and I can tell his little tummy is bothering him.  I think he is still adjusting to eating more solids and that is taking a toll on his belly.  Hopefully it's just a phase for your LO and things will get better! or maybe he's just not a morning person ;)

DD usually wakes slowly in the morning, and just babbles to herself.  DH typically gives her 5-10 minutes to wake up before going in there, but the days where she's not loud enough to wake him quickly (he's a very heavy sleeper) and she gets annoyed, she just slowly starts yelling louder and louder until he goes in there.  This is also what she does when she wakes up from naps usually.

When she wakes MOTN at this point, it's usually due to teething pain...so she whimpers and cries out while half asleep until we go in there.  If it fully wakes her up, she SCREAMS and is hard to get back to sleep.  So we try to avoid that happening.  Sometimes if she has a lame nap where she fights sleep for a while and then winds up sleeping restlessly she will wake up crying, but that is rare.

She did nothing but scream 24/7 for the first 3 months, so it's nice that now she only screams when there is something seriously wrong (pain) or she is overtired!  It's a huge change, for sure.

  • Hungry ok lol but really crabby right off but usually happy after he eats and we are up for the day.
  • Mine wakes up whiney and pissed until he gets the boob. He's going to be really sad when we get around to cutting out that morning nursing session...
  • On the weekends she wakes up by talking to herself and is usually all smiles. Weekdays I have to wake her up because she is sleeping like a rock lol and then she is pissed.
  • In the morning she wakes up babbling to herself, not smiley but not grumpy. Once she's eaten she's all smiles. Just like me with my morning coffee! Naps, on the other hand are a different story. She wakes up smiling, laughing and kicking her feet.
  • My lo always wakes up happy. She could take a 15 min cat nap and be happy as a turtle on a conveyor belt. She usually wakes up and rolls around playing with her lovey by swinging it around and talking to it. We don't go in to get her until she is sitting or standing up.

Maybe your LO isn't quite ready to wake up and he's disgruntled, or he's possibly going to be grumpy for a bit when he wakes up. I know of several people who are just grumpy when they wake up until they get their bearings straight.

I have a really happy baby who hates sleep. He wakes crying all the time, every time, unless he's in bed with us - then he giggles and is really fun. Otherwise I think he feels tricked and mad about it! (We usually rock him to sleep. I know, I know...!)
Exactly the same here. My mom is convinced if he wakes crying he's still tired, but that's just how he wakes up. I think he just hates waking up alone.

Mine wake up happy unless we take too long to get in their room, then they turn witchy real fast! My twins babble at each other dangling their baby dolls over their cribs every morning....cracks me up!
  • I have one happy twin in the morning and one grumpy twin. My son has to whine until he is taken out of his room and my daughter just gives me big happy adorable smiles. They both usually wake up happy from naps.

Mornings she wakes up happy and usually lays in bed for maybe 10-20 minutes babbling.  Naps, she cries and cries.

Either way, we battle diaper change after sleep- haaaates it still!

My 4 yo nephew sti wakes up from naps pissed- hoping we can break that for LO but idk how!

If it's a restful sleep he normally wakes up happy and giggling. If he wakes up screaming crying he is either hungry, still tired or both.
  • Mine sits up and just starts talking to himself and playing. Then when we go in his room to tell him good morning he has the biggest smile on his face and says "Hiiiii" but he sleeps for 12 hours every night so that may be why.
