Infertility

Introducing myself - LOSS MENTIONED

Good Evening. I'm 34 he is 36. We went in for our first RE appointment and I've done my progesterone test 7 days past positive opk. That result came back at 3.6 ng/ml which has me concerned. Last Saturday I completed  my day 3 blood work and I have other things scheduled for next week including HSG, Any tips on that? We suffered a miscarriage 11/2014 at 9 weeks and infertility is really frustrating me. Good luck to us all.

Re: Introducing myself - LOSS MENTIONED

  • Welcome, sorry you find yourself here but this is a nice group of people!  So sorry for your loss!

HSG experiences vary.  Some girls take some pain killers before the procedure but I wasn't able to do that since my RE decided to do one on me last minute at our very first consult with him.  It hurt but it was over quickly.  Good luck to you with your testing!

Welcome, @Msjen11 .  I'm sorry you find yourself here. It's tough to be on this journey but this has been a great place find support.  I had an HSG last minute, so I didn't get to take anything. It was a bit painful, but I think of you can take some Tylenol or Aleve before, it wouldn't be as bad.  You might check with your RE to see if they are going to give you anything beforehand.  Good luck!

Thanks for your replies and sharing your experience. They told me to take Advil an hour prior. I think I'll take the whole day off, I was trying to go into work after the procedure. I work as a teacher so it is hard for me to be left alone at work.
  • @Msjen11  I am sorry for your loss and will let you know that all of us here understand the frustration that comes with infertility. My tip for the HSG is to definitely not eat right before hand, I had to do a fasting glucose test that morning and my friend and I pigged out on sushi for lunch before my HSG in the afternoon, the intense and shocking uterine contractions nearly made me vomit....not fun :(

  • @Msjen11 sorry that you find yourself here but like others have said everyone is super helpful, kind and sympathetic. I'm so sorry for your loss. Do you know what route you will be going down? Medicated TI, IUI or IVF?

Best of luck and hope your stay is short!

Perhaps I'm in denial, but I'm hoping I get pregnant  after HSG. UNfortunately though my progesterone came back at 3.6 ng/ml 7 days past my positive ovulation test. I think that is too low from my research but didnt they test me early? We are willing to proceed with what ever the RE recommends. Where are you in this whole process?
  • I'm currently in the dreaded TWW...I'm 6dpiui and will try to resist every urge to test early  :#

I've read and heard after an HSG your more fertile!!! It could be just what you needed fingers crossed

Yes, definitely take some painkillers before the hsg. Mine was very painful so I was glad I took some T3s. Welcome to infertility; I hope you're not here long

  • @Msjen11 There are progesterone supplements that you can take after ovulation and that may be all you need to get a sticky BFP.  Good luck with your testing and hopefully your RE puts you on a successful treatment plan!

I did the HSG on my lunch break, so I did work before and after no problem.  It was definitely a lot more painful than I anticipated (but over fast!), and I needed a pad the rest of the afternoon for some spotting.  The HSG can definitely open up your tubes and may be just what you need for your BFP!
