FYI - Really Cool App for Second Hand Stuff and Deals!

Hey! So DH and I just discovered a really cool app and I wanted to share the info with you guys in case you haven't heard of it yet... it's called Offers Up and it's for second hand stuff in your area. We just got a barely used changing table for 15.00 and an extra infant car seat and base to go with our travel system for 30.00! Looking for the perfect crib, but it's looking like we found the one for 80 bucks almost brand new.

Plus we were able to post some stuff to clean out our garage and made a little dough!

Re: FYI - Really Cool App for Second Hand Stuff and Deals!

  • Ah awesome!  I was just talking about this on the randoms thread. :)  I'm actually going to go pick up a brand new snap n go tonight for $13!  Found on offerup! :)

Also on the hunt for a nice glider!
  • Loading the player...
  • Thanks for telling us about this. Just downloaded it and found 3 cribs I like. Hopefully we can get one!

I've bought a few things using that app, mostly furniture to redo.

At the risk of sound preachy, I'm going to state a PSA regarding used car seats. Be very careful. You don't know the history, usually. Even washing the straps or seat cover incorrectly can cause damage, it doesn't have to just be an accident.  Most people are responsible and won't sell a damaged seat, but you never know. All of this. A deal is awesome, but car seats are definitely the one item you don't want to buy from a stranger! They have expiration dates (you can find it on the back) and even if someone SAYS the seat is safe, you have no idea if that's true or not. Most of the time the damage isn't visible and you'd have no idea the seat isn't safe until you're in an accident yourself.

Go nuts with great deals on everything else, but please please please buy your car seat new!!

@Julia70286 - it's all so overwhelming, especially the car seat stuff. I was clueless when we brought DS home! If you're on Facebook, search for the group Car Seats For The Littles. The people there are CRAY (like really, really cray) but their car seat advice is spot on.
  • Yes, agreed on the car seat CRAY.  I definitely have flown with a lap child, which is basically equivalent to murder for a CPST.  I also knew nothing when I brought DD home, but the FB group helped a lot.

You can buy a used seat, you just have to buy from someone you trust.

  • I echo what everyone here is saying. I love offer up and I've been searching for good baby deals everyday but I'm not comfortable using a second hand car seat or crib. Those items require all of their parts to be in perfect condition to function properly. I have my eye on a beautiful glider though! Happy deal hunting :)
  • I've had offer up downloaded for awhile but never had much success on it. After your post I looked and put in offers on some maternity clothes and a snuggle! Let's hope they work out
  • All the nursery furniture in my area isn't much cheaper than buying in the store. I'm kinda bummed but will keep checking.
