Adeline was born 3:37 April 24th via induction for what turned out to be IUGR. Her head was in the 98th percentile, body in the 4th...I was carrying a bobble head!
I had had the foley inserted to my cervix (twice because they messed up the first time) at 7pm Friday evening, went home and waited to be called back to the hospital on Saturday. We were called in around 10am. The foley dilated me to about 4cm. They broke my water at 12pm and made me walk around for 2 hours. I was contracting about every 2-3 minutes from walking but as soon as I stopped, contractions went to 6 minutes. They checked me and I had only dilated to 5cm after 2.5hours. I was exhausted from the walking.
They wanted to start pitocin at that stage and even though I had a natural birth plan, I asked for the epidural at that stage because I was so exhausted from lack of sleep and 2 hours of walking! It also meant the pitocin was delayed by nearly 2 hours. So epi went in, was great but there was a patch on my left side of my abdomen, right where I was contracting that didn't take very well but pain was manageable. By 1130pm, it had worn off entirely in the one spot and I was still only 5cm, with pitocin running. They tried a bunch of things to top up the epi that didn't work, and Addy's heart rate kept dropping which was traumatic! Long story short, I ended up labouring naturally for 2.5 hours between 5-10cm because the epi wore off entirely across my belly. It was excruciating. I was so annoyed because I opted to screw my plan and get the epi and then it didn't even work!!
Checked me around 230am Sunday morning and I was 10cm and she was really really low (which the doctor was totally surprised at) They had to redo the epi at that stage...that was not my idea of fun! Doc asked if I wanted to start pushing or have a break. I opted for an hour of rest during which she was pushing lower and lower. An hour later I decided to push...5 pushes and she was out. It was crazy!!
Recovery has been interesting but at 8 days old we're both doing really well now. I just want to snuggle her all day!!
