I recall reading someone else's post that they got to pay out of pocket for extra ultrasounds at private clinics?
I was was sad that graduating to a normal ob/gyn meant appointments every month or so. I want to see our baby more frequently! Especially since I don't have a lot of symptoms, so want to make sure bebe doing ok every week.
So who has successfully squeezed in extra ultrasounds and how did you do it? Private clinic? (A Google search for private ultrasounds in my location only turns up 3D services.)

Going every week is going to rack up the cost crazy fast. And your doctor will probably advise against it. Just going off my last BMB & friends, 3-4 ultrasounds total is the usual - dating, 12, 20'weeks and maybe a positioning / size one at the end.
Youll know know the baby's doing ok when you can feel them move soon!
I definitely wouldn't go every week though. That would be bonkers pricey. I think an ultrasound every couple months is plenty.

It's worth calling around and asking if they run any specials. Also, check their FB page as sometimes they'll have discounts run daily (Especially with Mother's Day coming up) or a coupon, etc.
I don't think we can even do "private" ultrasounds here for a cost. Although, I'm not sure that I would want to personally. Not just because of whatever costs there might be, but for whatever reason I seem to be okay waiting. Maybe that will change closer to due date. I can understand why some of you lovely ladies like having this option, especially those with PGAL.

Edit: Ugh. I just called around to the private ultrasound places here to see if it'd be possible to have a scan to determine the sex at 16w. Nope. They won't do them until at least 18w and you have to have had your anatomy scan - and met with your doctor for the results - first. I'm not meeting with my OB until four days after the scan and I don't know if I'll even have the scan results at that point (this hospital apparently won't tell you the sex at the appointment. It goes in the report and the OB tells you.). Then I'm going to be out of the province for a month. I might not learn the baby's sex until I get back to Ontario at almost 26w. I'm going to go insane with curiosity.

That's how it is here to, you have to have had an u/s with your Dr first. I kinda wish I would have said I don't know when my LMP was so they would have done a dating u/s. I would have felt super guilty though. Just gonna have to be patient and wait til July to see this LO.

With that said, my OB practice does a quick US (instead of Doppler) every appointment. It's nice, but overkill IMO...but also not bothersome enough to me to think about switching practices.

So anyway, I have mixed feelings about those places now. As nice as it is to see your baby those places are really not qualified to be taking ultrasounds and they have the ability to cause fear and a great cost to you. So proceed with caution. I'm still very conflicted about the whole thing honestly. I would still love to go back and get my 4d ultrasound and gender reveal and all that stuff but now I'm concerned about what kinda call I will get after.
