Game of Thrones Weekly

tell me there are other GOT fans here please!

Spoiler Alert!

what did everyone think?!
I, along with the entire interwebs, have been anticipating this Jon story line so although I was excited, it was kind of anti-climactic. I actually like the crisis of conscious the Red Woman is having in that storyline more.
I loved the return of Bran and seeing young Hodor. Can't wait to see how that plays out.
Ramsey is psychotic. I had to leave the room for that scene.
Really enjoying the return of old characters and storylines like the iron islands and the northern conflicts. Especially because the centrality of the Lanisters bores me. They are not interesting enough to get as much screen time as they do.

Re: Game of Thrones Weekly

  • I haven't got a chance to watch it yet (finishing some work) but will shortly. Sooooo looking forward to it.

Yeah, I would imagine it would look like gibberish if you've never seen it!

I don't think the horrible ones actually die in GOT, so Ramsay is probably in for a long, long life.

Agree totally on the Lannisters, besides Tyrion. I want to see more Tyrion; he's a fantastic character and Dinklage is just a joy to watch in anything. And Jon... yeah, that was expected. They spent so long telling everyone "Oh yes, he's really dead. We're not lying! Totally carked it!" that it was ridiculously obvious that while he may have actually, for sure, been dead, he wasn't going to stay that way for long.

Not my favourite episode, for sure, but I find the first 2-3 or so of each season where they're just sort of bringing you up to date on each storyline are kind of meh. Should start getting good in the next couple of weeks as they really move the plot along.

Hard to believe that by the time this season wraps up, we'll all be in the second halves of our pregnancies.

Also agree Jon coming back was predictable but I'm happy about it. I think Ramsey is worse than Jeoffry at this point, I didn't think any character could be more awful than Jeoffry. I agree with @KilgraveMadeMeDoIt we need more Tyrion!

You're right! I hated Jeoffry but I didn't have to cover my eyes or leave during his scenes!

Anyone else wondering why the child of the forest character now looks like a grown woman bird? That was strange to me. I like the creepy old kid thing they had going on the last time this group appeared. My H thinks it's supposed to be a different character but the voice is still small and childlike.
  • I'm a book reader so I'm loving all this new territory! However, I found this episode to be underwhelming. Jon Snow coming back to life was like the worst kept secret! We all knew it was going to happen. Although I am excited to see Ollie and Thrones faces when they see him alive again! I also hope that Sansa makes it to Jon and Jon kills Ramsey.

Ramsey just looks psychotic! I was shocked when he killed Roose. Not shocked about how he handled Roose's wife and the baby. He "Loved" Myranda and still fed her body to the hounds.

I'm wondering if Tyrion is actually the mad kings son- the dragons should have roasted him! And he does have one purple eye (at least in the books!)

Joffery is one of the most hated characters of all time. He was terrible! But he always had someone there to knock him down a few pegs and make him seem more like a child... His grandfather and of course Tyrion. Ramsey like Jofferey has no redeeming qualities and he doesn't have anyone that can knock him down.

Im still wondering how Sansa isn't suffering from horrible frost bite! And I am loving her with
    Brienne.

I'm not that invest in the iron islands. So I don't have much to comment there.

i also think Brans flash backs might be setting us up for the R+L=J story line.
  • I'm on nights the next few nights, starting yesterday #residentlife anyway, just watched the show. It was soooo hyped up. I was actually left a little disappointed and I'm bummed it was Millesandre that brought him back. I was hoping for him to re-emerge from a pyre. I'm glad Bran is back, but no one has seen Rickon and Osha in seasons now. I can only imagine the wrath of Walder Frey now tho when Ramsay murdered Walda... They killed all of the Starks for just passing on a marriage contract. I agree that Cersei isn't very interesting right now and I want to focus more on Tyrion.

I had to fast forward the Ramsey scene, I knew what he was going to do to the heir, didn't need to see it. I assume he fed them both to the dogs. What a dick. We all know what happens to the truly bad boys in this show, they get killed the most brutally.

Tyrion is my favorite character on that show, I'm so bored with Cersei. Is she reformed, is she beaten down, what's the deal - don't care. Her son annoys me. He is a sitting duck and not just because of a prophecy, because the weak always fail. My favorite scene last night was probably Tyrion with the dragons, that was a nicely stressed scene.

I did clap when Jon came back finally but because I was tired of the shots of his dead body from above. We get it. Everyone knew what was going to happen. Let's stop acting like the sight of him lifeless is sad and not annoying!
  • I don't think Cersei is reformed at all... I think she's bidding her time and maybe thinking before she acts- for once.

Interesting theory on Tyrion @serenaxo84, I could see that. I'm looking forward to seeing the storyline with Tyrion this season.

I love that Sansa is back with Brienne of Tarth. I hope she crosses paths this season with Bran and Jon Snow.

Ramsey makes my skin crawl. As soon as they said it was a boy I knew he would kill Roose and the baby.
I hope some horrible things are in store for him.

Happy to see Jon Snow back, but totally predictable. I liked this version of the Red Woman. I couldn't stand her in previous episodes.

I feel like I need re-watch the last few episodes of Season 5. I'm confused as to what is going on with Arya Stark. I know she was struck blind as punishment for killing Meryn Trant, but I don't get what's going on now. Are they still trying to get her to move on from her identity?
  • I'm so happy to see Jon Snow finally back on GoT. There were zero hot men left if he actually ended up dead. I'm annoyed they didn't just bring him back in episode 1 - we all knew they were going to do it. Do you guys watch the the bits with the writers after the show? They're always such smug a**holes, and think they're so clever!

Honestly, anything Ramsey does neither shocks not surprises me anymore. He's a psychopath, and I am always expecting some kind of violence in every single scene he's in. I'm surprised when he's in a scene without violence, TBH.

I want to see more of Danaerys. I really liked her storyline until things started falling apart in Mereen. @serenaxo84 super interesting theory about Tyrion being a child of the Mad King! I'm always interested in theories from people who read the books.

Like everyone else, I'm sick of how much air time King's Landing gets. The religious nuts freak me out - and I don't know why the Lannisters don't just mass murder all of them.

I also am entirely uninterested in Arya's new storyline. It's moving too slowly for me right now. How did she become blind? Did I forget something from last season?

  • I have three thoughts on the episode:

    1. He's aliiiiiiiiive!! So happy.
    2. "That's what I do. I drink and I know things" Probably one of my favorite lines of the entire series.
    3. Ramsey is definitely the actual worst. He makes Joffrey look like Tommen.

  • Yeah, I think the real twist would have been of the Wildlings built a funeral pyre and put Jon Snow on it and he didnt wake up. Everyone knew she would bring him back, it was only a question of when.

I thought the "Tyrion is the son of the Mad King" was a well known theory. It is all about him, Jon Snow (R+L=J theory) and Daenerys being Targaryens and the three heads of the dragon from the prophecy. That is why everyone was losing their minds thinking Jon was dead, because it would ruin that theory.
  • I also think the R+L=J theory is accurate making him the rightful king.  Didn't think about Tyrion but they do have similar hair (anyone else bummed the red woman cut Jon's hair!?)  I hope this season picks up though!  It has started off very slow.
  • I also thought this episode was a little slow. As many of y'all are saying, the Kings Landing stuff is kind of boring. It seemed like the Ramsay and dogs scene, the unleashing of the dragons, and the re-awakening of Jon Snow were all dragged out a little longer than need be. There was also so much talk ahead of time about Jon Snow likely being brought back to life by Melisandre and clips of Tyrion with the dragons that I was ready for them to cut to the chase. Or maybe I was frustrated becauseI was just not watching it with DH as usual since he's out of town and trying to do some work at the same time.

So DH and I thought the same thing so went to Wiki game of thrones (time sucker fyi).  It explained that because much of Kings Landing is inhabited by refugees and commoners that they would all turn on the royals if they did anything to the Sparrows.  Apparently the religious nuts are there for the better of the common people (feeding the poor etc.).  The high sparrow kind of touched upon it when says the small folk are many and the nobility few.

  • I feel like a weight has been lifted now that Jon Snow is alive.  Mainly because I really want to see the R+L=J play out and it would've driven me crazy if he'd really been dead!! Now I need to know what he's going to do about the mutineers - behead them all for treason, I suppose?
And, I'm super excited to see what Sansa does this season! It's about time she had something go her way.
  • such a sad episode. He played such a minor character and yet I am so sad to see him go.
  • It was nice to finally have something explained that we've been wondering for so long. There's still so many unknowns and questions, kind of glad to check one off the list. Sometimes I wish a whole episode was dedicated to a character/area and not just a tiny bit of the story every week. I'm pretty tired of Aria being where she is. I'm hoping what happened in this weeks episode leads to her leaving.

Reviving this. Hold the door  :'(
Total heartbreak. But at the same time, pleased HBO can pull off a big moment like that still. It's been a bit twist/gasp free for awhile. I was seriously heartbroken about Summer.
  • I felt so sad to learn that about Hodor. Hold the door!

  • I'm curious to see how they are going to tie the Aria storyline back.
  • So only 2 direwolves are still alive - Ghost and Nymeria (presumably). Do you think they'll end up reunited? And why the hell would the Raven be like "the undead are coming. But first, a look at the past" wtf. Seriously? And time travel is so confusing. Because that means that this isn't the first time this happened. If it were, hodor wouldn't have always said hodor in this timeline.
  • That Hodor storyline is so heartbreaking. Really rooting for Sansa and Jon right now. It's awesome to see them together. I hope they cross paths with Bran soon since they're so close by.

I cannot follow the Aria storyline at all. What the fuck is going on? Why does she want to be faceless? What??? I don't get it.

  • I think Ayra is going to be on the run from the faceless man soon... She clearly hasn't lost Arya. I'm wondering if she is going to kill a different person than the one she was assigned. This was clearly a test.
I'm also thinking that Littlefingers tidbit about the Blackfish reserecting an army might be a lie. He can't be trusted and Sansa might be sending them into a trap... And she wasn't honest with Jon about where she got the information. As we saw on the previews etc. Pod and Brienne make their way onto a Lanister camp... Wondering if that is at Riverrun. I'm can't figure out Littlefingers main agenda here.

  • Ok. Bringing this back. I'm glad Arya is back to being Arya. A girl with no name is a girl with less interesting plot.

why does the Tully guy (cat's brother) even care about his wife (whom he only knows from their wedding day and who's family thereafter captured him) and son (whom he merely sperm donored at this point. Doesn't know him, hasn't met him, and his wife's family has captured and tortured him)???

And why did brienne run away with pod? If the goal was to get them to lay down their arms peacefully and join sansa's army.... Why didn't she try talking with cat's brother about that after he entered the castle?

and thank goodness dany is back in mereen, but when is her story going to matter? When is she going to go to westeros?
  • I agree on the Arya story line. I was getting so bored of that whole plot.

I'm not sure why Edmure even cares. I think there is more to that and he has a plan? I think he also realizes that the Blackfish is being an idiot and everyone will die unless he does something to intervene. So I think he is cutting his losses at this point.

I think Brienne is fearful of having to choose between her honor and fighting against Jaime. She doesn't want to have to fight him and yet she wants to be true to Sansa. He knows that and so he lets her go. I get the feeling she wasn't 100% aware of what else was going on in the castle when she was leaving? Edmure also has no idea who she is and possibly could care less about what she has to say. I think it was a safe move on her part.

I think next week all hell is going to break loose in Mereen. I'm hoping for an epic battle and Dany will turn out to be such a badass (as usual). I think her story needs to collide with Theon Greyjoy and his sister before anything happens with her going to Westeros.

That's my 2cents. I'm sad this season is almost over :(
  • I'm hoping Arya returns to Winterfell and skins Ramsey from top to bottom. That would be so-weet.
