possibility of changing doctors;Possible TW

The further i progress into this pregnancy, the more i am considering finding a new doctor. After multiple MC, a stillbirth, and a SCH, my doctor still sees no reason to consider me high risk. I feel that i should be monitored a little more closely than once a month. Also take into consideration that i am a third shift tech in a nursing home. i am.constantly pulling and tugging on people. Ive had to miss wyite a bit of work because of the SCH. My charge nurses, my supervisor, and
I all feel that it would be in my best interest to be on light duty at work. My doctor is hesitant to do so. i love my doctor's personality, but I'm beginning to wonder if her prwctice is meeting my needs.

Sorry, didn't know exactly where to put this, but i had to rant.

  • There is no harm in getting a second opinion. What if the other Dr comes back with the same conclusion?

  • I would get a second opinion and go from there.
  • If you don't feel comfortable with your doctor, or don't think she is hearing your concerns, find a new one. It's not a big deal and you might be much happier. I switched with my last pregnancy at 24 weeks and I just wish I did sooner. It was a great decision and I found an amazing practice.
Also, a second opinion will help ease your mind. Just do it :)

If it helps, I'm high risk and monitored by a MFM group but still only have appts with them every month now til the 3rd tri and I really trust their judgment, although the appt frequency prob depends on the reason for being high risk. I would def be curious about not being put on light duty though. I hope you can get a second opinion that helps you make a decision on a provider you're comfortable with!

  • There's nothing wrong with checking out another practice. I switched practices at 20 weeks with my first pregnancy.

I'm also high risk and only have monthly appointments until third tri. I'll be monitored much more the last few weeks of this pregnancy. But if you feel like your doctor isn't listening to your concerns there is nothing wrong with switching.

  • If you aren't comfortable, I would switch now before it gets too late.  It's harder to find OB's once you hit a certain week (I'm not sure what week exactly), but I imagine it has to do with benefits and pre-paying for your delivery.  I start paying mine in May.

  • I've had multiple losses as well. The practice my doctor is at considers me high risk, but my doctor does not because I'm being treated for (what they assume) caused the miscarriages. I only see my doctor once a month.

I, personally, am comfortable with that. But if you're uncomfortable with your doctor for any reason, don't hesitate to seek a second opinion. Your doctor works for you and should listen to all your concerns. They should put you at ease, either by changing treatment, clearly explaining their reasoning, or simply because you trust them. But if you don't feel at ease, your pregnancy will be miserable and filled with uncertainty.

Do whatever you need to do to take care of yourself. Good luck!

  • Definitely switch as soon as possible! I was sporting at 8 weeks and was brushed off by the Dr. She claimed I cancelled my emergency appt and even called and I said I was walking in from the parking lot. They weren't very organized and were very rude! I'm glad k switched back to my old Dr who is further but totally worth it to me!

  • @AshleyGemini24 Out of curiosity, is there a reason why you think you should be on light duty at work? Are you in pain? Shortness of breath? I'm wondering if I can provide tips to help you along the way.

I'm asking because I'm an occupational therapist in a nursing home so I'm familiar with the struggle of transferring patients.

  • @PCOSbaby Typically anyone who is high-risk is automatically put on light duty as a precaution. It's not really that we need to be, just an extra safety measure just in case. I worked midnights at a nursing home when I got my BFP and had to be put on light work. Unfortunately my situation forced me to resign from my job, but thankfully that doesn't seem to be the case for @AshleyGemini24

  • @PCOSbaby and @krzyriver i am a third shift tech. Two of my three SCh bleeds have began after transferring and positioning patients. I have great nurses who are very helpful, but its still strenous (sp). Many of the patients on my unit require two to three assist. There is a short supply of staff for all shifts but especially for third shift

Also @krzyriver  i really enjoy the work that i do. I hope to be able to continue to work until my due date. Not to mention, Financially it would be best

Edited because i have big fat fingers and a little tiny keyboard on my phone.
  • As an RN, I agree that if you feel your work is putting you at risk, and you e had SCH bleeds immediately after hauling patients around, you need to find a doc willing to write you for light duty. I always wonder why doctors are hesitant to do this kind of thing for patients- I mean what's the friggin skin off their neck for it!? There are more supportive OBs out there.
  • @AshleyGemini24 Our third shift was short staffed as well. There was only ever two of us there at a time to care for our guests, so I feel your pain. I hope you can continue too. I loved my job and hate that I had to leave. Now I wake up every day dreading going to the salon. I reeeeeally didn't want to go back there. Lol

  • It's definitely time to find another OB. You have had incidents directly caused by work conditions and he/she still refuses to put you on light duty? Fire the OB!

  • Thanks for the suppport ladies. I am looking around at reviews for local OBGNs. Instead of jumping in headfirst like i did with this dr. and thankfully, my stagfing coordinator is trying to help as much as possible. So much as to allow me to wash wheelchairs all night on the few nights that we might have the staff available. washing wheelchairs is of course not my prefered job, but i will do whatever i must do to protect my baby. Its also better and easier than lifting my residents
  • I hope you find one you like! From my experience in my area, I have found female OBGYNs  to be a lot tougher on their patients than the male OBGYNs around here and it makes no sense to me haha
Good luck on your search! And I hope that bleeding stops for you, I still have it daily but was told to just expect it until the SCH is gone. Kind of a bummer we can't enjoy not having a period because of bleeding or spotting and then have the added stress of wondering if everything is alright.
  • Update: im in the process of switching doctors. My new doctor has submitted the request for.my medical records,  but as usual, my previous doctor is taking their sweet ass time to fax over the records. My previously doctor has 30 days to release the records. Lets hope i don't have to wait that long. I can't be seen by my new doctor until my records have been recieved.
