  • One of DD's favorite books is hands down called "God Made You Special". It's a Veggie Tales book. Unless it's hiding, she has us read it every night. Sometimes more than once. The rest aren't really stories. Just more pointing at pictures, learning words and learning sounds lol
  • I am so happy you posted this! My DH and I were just talking about the importance of reading to your child. As soon as your little ones arrive start reading to them! It's truly amazing how many people don't know that they should read to their children everyday. The Black and White Books and Sassy Books are perfect for the first few months of life. You should even read a loud your own books, that is in the very beginning, it will help promote brain development!

Our top 10 favorites in our house

    Good Night Gorrilla
Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons
    The Nose Book
    Good Night Zoo
    The Run Away Bunny
I Bought My Love A Tabby Cat
Where Ever You Are My Love Will Find You
    Dr. Seuss's ABC
    Brown Bear Brown Bear
If You Give A Dog A Donut

Also, my mom knows I love to read so we had a book themed baby shower lol in addition to regular presents, everyone brought at least one book for baby. They each put stickers in so we would know who brought them too
  • DD loves the Usborne "That's Not My..." series. She is currently loving the Disney Babies books. She will look at books or have us read for hours every day. It is amazing!

  • We have so many books. My DD has been obsessed with books since about 4 months old. We have almost 100 board books and we read at least 15-20 a day. She loves it but it's exhausting lol.

Her favorites as a tiny was the highlights hello books. And they are a wipe able material so that was great when she would spit up on everything!

Also the star wars books: ABC colors numbers.

Around a year she started liking Dr suess books but would read anything.

Now at almost two we have started incorporating some scholastic early readers during supervised reading sessions. Since they are paper backs they tear easily...and all of them have gotten ripped when we weren't watching so now it's with us only.  She reads board books on her own.

We also got her the tag Jr reader and some of those books. She really likes that too for independent reading.
    DD1 5/23/14, DD2 12/5/16   Baby #3 on the way!

  • My daughter spotted daddy ready graphic novels and got into superheroes, especially batman. So we got her stuff like "my first book of girl power" and "even superheroes sleep". DC put out a whole line of toddler books about their characters and she loves them.
  • That Usborne series was popular in our house too. Now my daughter love the 'Ella Bella Ballerina' series (her name is Ella).

  • My 4yo's favorites for the past 2.5 years have been
    •The Hungry Caterpillar
    •Brown Bear, Brown Bear
    •Dr Seuss's ABC book (Big A, Little A)
•My Dog Knows a Lot of Words
(We have all of these memorized and she loves to "read" them to little sister)

More recently we've been reading her kid's bible before bed, and her favorites that she always asks for are
    •Jonah and the Whale
    •Baby Jesus
    •Noah's Ark
    •Parting of the Red Sea
    •Daniel and the Lion's Den
    •When Jesus calms the storm
    •Zacchaeus in the tree

The 1.5 year old is obsessed with any book as long we can read the first page and then the last page before we read the middle pages, lol.

  • I love this thread! So many good ideas!  My family always leaned pretty heavily towards fairytales and folktales when I was growing up, and my parents saved all of my favorite books. I'm looking forward to sharing them with our baby.

    1. Magical Moonballs
    2. Boneylegs
    3.The Talking Eggs

I also recently gave an expectant mom Sparky! for a baby shower. I found the book by accident at Target and fell in love with it! If you love sloths and accepting people for who they are, then you'll love Sparky!
  • Obviously no kids yet, but I do have 4 nephews and we see 2 of them regularly... and reading is something I love to do with them! But, I can't remember some of the titles, ha.

However, I did start buying books a few years ago and keep a list on Amazon of other ones I want. Especially the Little Golden Books for the holidays. Frosty, The Christmas Story, Nutcracker, Santa's Toy Shop, Night Before Christmas, etc. I grew up reading them, so I started buying them and just put them out as decoration on one of our coffee tables.

Stinky Cheese Man! Love that book.

That was my baby shower theme for my DS too! And I just hosted a baby shower for my SIL that was book themed as well. It truly is the best theme for a baby shower.

My DD's favorite is "That's Not My Dolly" :) Every time I get it out to read to her she gets a big smile on her face. I'm going to be have to check out the Disney Baby books.

My husband somehow had a stockpile of Berenstain Bears books from when he was younger and our 3.5 yr old loves to pick out a new one every now and then. They have been a good teaching lesson for feelings and other situations. I really didn't remember that they had much of a lesson, but we try to talk about it after reading the story.
He also loves anything construction, so we have Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site which was quite popular for a while.
We also go to the library every 3 weeks or so and rotate in new books. He calls the library his "favorite store" :)
