Babbling

My son is about 9.5 months now and is not making consonant sounds. He makes plenty of vowel sounds, but we have yet to hear any mamama, bababa, gagaga etc. At our 9 month appt, the ped didnt really make a big deal about it, but did say at a year they like to hear 1-2 words. Lo is ahead with his other motor skills, crawling, pulling up to stand and starting to walk along the couches. I guess im just concerned that it can turn into a speech delay. I do read to him every day, im constantly telling him what we are doing and what everything is. Anyone else dealing with this?

Re: Babbling

  • Don't worry mama, every baby is different. My friends baby is currently 14 months but he didn't say much until 11-12 months. Believe me the time will come when you're little one will be talking non stop lol keep us posted and hopefully he will say mama first! ;)

  • My LO is not babbling either. He is 9 months and he is just quiet in general but will get going with raspberries and ahyahyahya type noises. I also expressed concern and our DR wasn't too concerned but we scheduled a follow up in 6 weeks. He also isn't crawling yet will roll lunge and pivot all over the place but no crawling yet. He can pull himself up on his own but it's few and far between. If we stand him up he can hold on with one hand steadily and play by himself but still has a hard time getting up on his own. I'm trying not to read into it and just to enjoy the stage he's in but it is definitely difficult not to worry. Especially seeing everyone's progress on here.
  • My son is also pulling up but he cant sit up from laying down. He also has a funny little crawl but I am not really concerned. He seems to be fine. He does a lot of babbling and growling but he does say dada

I feeling the same. My son loves the raspberries and making ooo sounds and grunting. I try to remind myself that babies do things in their own time, but its hard in the moment I guess. Im sure he will be talking a mile a minute before long and I am worrying for nothing. Our ped said he'd give us a referral if we really felt it was an issue, but I dont want to jump the gun. I guess we can only wait and see!
  • So LO has been growling a lot lately, literally sounds like a baby lion. Anyone else's LO's making funny noises or finding their voice.

Our little man likes to copy us alot and one of his uncles makes a grunt to him and my little man Kaidon will copy him and feint back we do a growl and yell and say your turn and he copies or ask him what's his war cry and he does a yell growl lol. He makes alot of funky noises trying to see all the things his voice can do and loves to babble he can go all day long lol but yes alot of lion like sounds and grunts and yells in our house :)
  • I don't want to generalize but my son did everything on the very late end of the normal time frame (didn't crawl until almost 10 months, didn't walk until 15 months...etc) I was constantly worrying!! Well, he's almost 7 years old and just a regular boy! I just think boys do things a little later. Most of my friends have had the same experience with their boys. Not to say that it's always that way but I think girls just tend to do things earlier. My DD is doing things on the early end...rolled at 3 months, crawling at 7 months etc....
But boy or girl they all do things when they are ready.
