I don't like Harry Potter. Never got into it, thought it was dumb. Of course DH and his sisters are huge fans and they talk about it for hours. I just sit there like, I have no clue what the heck you're talking about.

My UO goes to Dave Ramsey- suck it Dave. If I want to spend more money at the grocery store buying "the baby" a donut I will. Stuff that in your envelope.
So really my UO should go to DH who manages the money
I'm really not into any type of salesmanship that has people use their social network as costumers. I don't care how great the products are. If I'm your friend, don't try to sell me shit. That's tupperware, pampered chef, those candles and bags, diet stuff, books, essential oils... Maybe I would come away with something useful but the peer pressure of it all feels slimy to me
I HATE the show Shark Tank. It makes me feel anxious. Rich a-holes trying to scam people who have devoted their lives to (often stupid) ventures. I get super uncomfortable with any monetary negotiation in real life, so seeing people having to do it over and over again really makes me anxious. Last night I was trying to sleep on the couch, and DH put it on. It made me so nervous that I forced him to change the channel because I couldn't sleep if I was hearing all that.

@Gizmo1231 - do you do the program? We need to do something somewhat drastic to handle the financial implications of twins right now. I was wondering how your experience has been...
@DiFazette yes, we have been for almost 12 months and have paid off everything but my stupid school loans and our house. I'm not going to lie- I complain about it almost every other day, but it has made an incredible difference with our ability to manage emergencies, plan for future things (like even HOA dues, plate renewals at the BMV, etc) that we never did before, and have a sense of financial security. The first 3 months were the hardest trying to get a plan in place and a budget that worked. All that being said, there are "die hard Dave" people and others who aren't- we are on the "aren't" spectrum. We still have family vacations and didn't do anything drastic like sell our newer cars for older ones. The book we started with is "The total money makeover"
@Gizmo1231 I am really interested in the Dave Ramsey thing but the page talks a lot about God and makes me really uncomfortable. Is it only for Christians?
Me: 38, DH: 36 Married Jan 2008 DD Baby Bells born Dec 2016 5 lbs, 12 oz, 18" so in love Due with #2 Baby Arya EDD February 2020
@leksiL I think his books are very Christian based- talk about tithing, etc. but you can easily adapt it to what you need. The book I mentioned above is really more of a "here's the plan" book but it does have some Christian talk in it.
@Gizmo1231@DiFazette We also use the envelope method and although we don't really care about Dave Ramsey one way or the other, it's been extremely helpful in managing our finances. We paid off my small student loan using the method, and the only thing we have left is a car payment.
We have envelopes for dining out, groceries, gas, holidays (this includes birthdays), medical expenses, allowances, and we just started one for baby stuff so we can get a few baby items every pay period without breaking the bank. Before we put anything in envelopes we put money into savings.
Sometimes it's hard and we don't always stay on track, but overall it has been a tremendous help and I am so glad we did it. Plus, I've found it's harder to spend actual cash, so we think harder about purchases. Hope this helps!
Edited to say that we didn't sell vehicles or cut out vacations or things like that either. Too drastic for us!
@leksiL I'm not a Christian either but if you want to get a lot of the meaty parts of the plan without purchasing the book, I suggest Pinterest. It just has the steps and information without religion. And you save money for your envelopes by not buying the book!
My UO is that I'm getting tired of superhero movies. Sounds dumb, but as a geek I feel like superheroes and the extended universes are becoming too main stream....much like Star Wars. Let us nerds have something for ourselves lol.
@phoenix870509 I like Harry Potter but could never talk about it for hours. Seems extreme.
Let me clarify, it's mostly 1 sister he discusses it with, and they get into DEEP conversations about it. The last deep conversation was about horcruxes (I don't even know if I spelled that right, w/e). And then they take the time to explain what that is to me, which takes up more time. And I'm like, that's great, I really don't care, I don't want any part of this conversation, I'm just gonna go read my X-Men comic and move on with my life.

@phoenix870509 Oh, Fandom knows no bounds! I don't really care for Harry Potter myself, but Batman? I will talk about DC universe for hour. No shame here lol. BTW, I don't know if you're a Batman fan, but The Killing Joke movie is coming out this summer!
@dmontgo I am not a Batman fan, but DH is. He's excited about the movie. I prefer Zatanna, she's awesome! I'm more into Marvel, hence my screen name. Phoenix is my favorite character.

ohhh man, I LOVE Dave Ramsey! His program changed our lives.
that being said, everybody needs a donut. Amirite?!
@COgirl29thanks, now I want a Boston Cream donut from Dunkin Donuts...
Mmmmmmm. I've never been to a Dunkin. We didn't have them by us until a few months ago one opened nearby. And it has a drive through..... OK I'm convinced. What should I get this afternoon?!

I LOVE Boston Cream and Bavarian Cream, but those are powdered and get everywhere. When I'm not in the mood for a cream filled donut, I go for the chocolate glazed. DH likes chocolate frosted.

This probably isn't a very UO but:
BMI should in no way make me be referred to a dietician.
My A1C is on the low end of normal, my bp is normal and so is everything else they tested today. Yet I have to see a dietician once a month for the next 6 months because of BMI.

For all those speaking of donuts...It took a lot of restraint to NOT order a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts today! This is NOT helping! The closest one is almost 2 hours away and people buy hundreds and drive them here to fund-raise. (We have about 20 different donut shops in town but no Dunkin or KK....this town is obsessed with donuts!)
