What is on your registry?

Im starting my gift registry, and I'm so excited about some of these items! Even if I don't get them as gifts, I'll definitely be buying these. What are your favorites on your registry?

My favorites:
Babybjorn bouncer
Travel Rock and Play
Travel baby tent/bed
Halo bassinet
Temperature reader for water faucet
puj tub
cute mobile and blanket on Etsy

I bought a bunch of used stuff (including cloth diapers) at a yard sale last weekend, so I feel like I can splurge on these things. I'm much more into "make your life easier gadgets" than I am into clothes. But some of the clothes are soooooo cute too!

Re: What is on your registry?

  • Second timer here so my registry is my personal list of things to buy and mostly just there to collect the completion coupons from for later. I've got a rock and play, the crib, a glider, some clothes, wipes, pacifiers, sheets, and a gate.

My advice is to register for a range of prices if you expect anyone at all might ask for it. From pacifiers and bottles, toys, tethers, clothes for an idea of your styles, receiving blankets, thermometers all the way on up to something you would never expect anyone to buy you (because discounts at the end!) like the dresser, bigger clothes, a crib. It gives people an option and a bigger idea of what your preferences are.

  • I'm not even registering for clothes bc I know people will go wild on their own. we have like 180'things on the registry, with the completion coupon and endless earnings at babies r us in mind
  • Echoing pp, as a second timer I am registered pretty much all over the place just to get the discounts and coupons. Don't bother registering for blankets or clothes as people just can't help themselves and will buy those regardless. The first time, I registered for a range of fun and useful things, and made sure it was a range of price points, because while some friends want to buy you the things you need (usually people who already have kids, ha), some friends just get excited about the toys and cutesy stuff.

I would suggest not going crazy registering for a bunch of one particular bottle, as you don't know what your baby might take or if you'll use them at all.
  • I thought maybe if you register for a blanket that people would see it bought and be like ok got it so I don't end up with ten blankets and nothing I need.
  • I'm a first timer, but we're team green. Soo, we probably won't get much clothes. However, we're planning to cloth diaper, so I have three dozen cloth diapers, cloth wipes, and all the necessary accessories on there (wet bags, snappis, cloth safe diaper cream, diaper pails, etc).

We're also getting nearly all the necessary stuff second hand (we're the last of our friends to have kids), so crib, changing table, bassinets, bouncers, etc. are all already spoken for. And we'll probably get a ton of hand-me down clothes.

I put glass bottles and such on there, because all our friends used plastic. I have a thing about sure, it's BPA-free, but what's the next plastic additive that will be shown to cause cancer?

So mainly there's just crib sheets, swaddling blankets, etc. on our registry... some baby proofing stuff... and a single stroller (I wanted a jogger travel system, which none of our friends have).

    Our registry is super boring.

Good theory, but didn't work that way for us. We registered for one pack of swaddle blankets, wound up getting two different 4 packs of those, 5 handmade blankets (very sweet, but seriously what do you do with that many crocheted baby blankets?!), 2 big fuzzy blankets, and probably 8 hand-me-down receiving blankets.
  • I thought maybe if you register for a blanket that people would see it bought and be like ok got it so I don't end up with ten blankets and nothing I need.
You will have ALL KINDS of crap you don't need. Hopefully your friends and family are savvy enough to leave a gift receipt.
  • Yes, the blanket struggle is real! I have one of those closet hanging sweater things just stuffed with baby blankets. There were a couple we used regularly, and the rest were basically back ups for spit up emergencies.

STM, and I haven't even started a registry. I'll be doing one for the completion coupons, and just in case a loving auntie wants some ideas (but ONLY if they ask me for it first). It'll be mostly replacements for the things that were hardest used by DD, and maybe some "boyish" colors to replace some of the pink if we end up being team blue. We registered all neutral with DD but still ended up with lots of pink and purple :)

  • We didn't end up with many clothes or blankets. On the other hand I am still working through all the shampoo and lotion we got from DS's shower 2 years ago. I had to give away diaper cream before it expired!

YES. It's like people enter Babies R Us and become immediately transfixed with the diaper cream aisle. I get that it's a handy item (and I appreciate the gift) but every baby reacts to cream differently, and for us there is literally ONE cream that works effectively. Everything else was given away!

So glad to know it wasn't just my friends/family who went bonkers on blankets, lol! I was starting to worry if I just knew weird people.

edit to add: the only upside for me with the blanket abundance is that I'm a photographer, so I can use a few of them as props and backdrops. But normal people just do not need 15 baby blankets!
  • I was just talking to a coworker about the blanket phenomenon. I did register for plain white onesies and plain white socks in various sizes because nobody ever thinks to give PLAIN clothes! Several moms recommended this to me because they ended up having to go out and get these items once the baby was here.

We definitely need to add those things to ours... but I've been putting it off because I find it so stressful figuring out what we need for cloth diapering!

  • For those planning to cloth diaper, I will say from experience (lots of my close friends cd) that you probably will not get many of the actual diapers you register for, but you can use the completion discounts to help with that. I think gifters like seeing their money go a little further than just 1-2 diaper shells, so they are more inclined to buy the diapering accessories and other registry items.
  • @strickland8052 Oh Etsy is my weakness! I have sooo many things "favorited". Admittedly, I haven't really looked into it, but how do you register for Etsy stuff?
  • @Kaessi you can create a "universal registry" on Amazon, which lets you add things from any website to your Amazon registry. I haven't tried it for etsy, but it should work!
  • The lady at babies r us claims we should register till 6 months so that's stuck in hubbys head but we will be 18 weeks Monday and I just want to register! We had so much fun for our wedding one so this one will be even better I think!

Oh geez. I'm an stm so the registry is basically for me, but I put together my Amazon registry before the pee stick dried.
Organizing & planning helps me relax though, & surprise bfp was making me pretty anxious at the time...
  • I'm a STM so my registry is really only for the completion coupons but I'm most excited to buy a sidecar cosleeper. We had a bassinet for DD which she hated, so I'm hoping this new baby will like the cosleeper better.

I agree with PPs, don't bother registering for blankets or clothes unless there's an outfit that you are dying for. People LOVE buying baby clothes and the blanket phenomenon is real. I saved some to regift to friends so it became their problem, hahaha. I also agree with the baby bottles, sippy cups, and pacifiers. Some babies just won't take certain ones so I'd recommend registering for one or two of each of the top ones you like.

@strickland8052 We LOVED the PUJ so that is an excellent choice, imho. But we also got a water thermometer that really got no use. It was much better for us to touch the water ourselves. The thermometer would claim the water to be too hot, but when we would put her in at the "safe" temp, she would be shivering, even with the wash rag on her belly. That is obviously just totally my opinion, though :)

  • I'm going to tell the hubby we should do it this weekend because I like to add and delete and fix it over and over if I find stuff we like better or don't like something we put on

@mrsb627 - Did she say why you should wait until 6 months? We asked the cashier at our local Babies-R-Us and she said most register as soon as they find out the sex of the baby, which would be somewhere between 4 and 5 months at the latest.

  • @CopperBoom86 she said that's what she prefers and with an attitude none the less so we left. We weren't there to do it just yet but I asked and she acted like it was her way or no way. I'm really wanting to get started so I'm going to talk to my husband when he gets home in a few minutes. We know we are having a boy so why not start?

  • @MrsB627 - Yeah, we're in the "why wait" camp, too. DH and I are registering this weekend. Like you said, we know it's a girl and we're in the second tri "safer zone" so why not?!

I just wanted to say its a good idea to start the registry online and then you can just go in with the price gun thing and shoot away. The majority of the "meeting" part of the registry process is paperwork. Also, you might want to do the additions in sessions broken up over a couple of weekends. I found the registry process to be fun, but omg so exhausting. After a while I think both my husband and I were fried.

  • @kaessi - I found this registry website called baby list registry. It allows you to register for anything online like stuff on Etsy. It also has a lot of other neat features like registering for dog walking, babysitting, or frozen meals. I don't mean to sound like a commercial.. I'm not getting paid by them. I just love it!

Interesting to hear about the blanket phenomenon. MIL has reminded us about 25 times that the baby needs a blanket. It is like she thinks that is the ONLY thing a baby needs to survive.... And that we don't recognize the importance of it? Maybe this is some philosophy that older people have about blankets?
  • A word of advice about one reason not to register *too* early-stock can change and items can be discontinued.  With DD1, we picked her nursery decor at PBK fairly early, and they discontinued it when I was around 7 1/2 months, after someone bought only one piece.  If you have your heart set on a very specific decor or item and you register very early, be prepared to check in frequently to see if it is still in stock and buy it if needed.
  • BTDT mamas ... What types of baby carriers are your favorite?  Which ones didn't work for you?  There are too many options!

    It's a boy!

  • @Blonde1817 if you're up for a little bit of practice and youtubing, wraps are by far the most comfortable option. I used them almost all the time up until baby was about one and wanted up and down a whole lot more. For the first several months, I love Solly wraps and Moby. When baby gets bigger, you'll want a sturdier woven wrap. There are a lot of great options out there in a broad range of price points.

In terms of SSC (soft structured carriers) I strongly prefer Kinderpacks and Tulas. Ergos are way less comfortable, in my experience. Kinderpacks fit my baby at a younger age, we didn't love using the Tula with her until she was about 6 months but that's pretty much all we use now. I've heard great things about Lillebaby as well, especially in terms of lumbar support.

  • @Blonde1817 We had the boba when DD was a newborn and while it did take some practice, I liked it just fine. I might look into our wraps for the next baby, though. We started off with the baby bjorn for her when she was a little sturdier, but then I read it's really bad for their hips (and DD was a breech baby so her hips were a special concern for us), so we ended up buying a Lillebaby. We love it. I haven't used it a ton because DD is very much a go, go, go kinda kid, but it came in handy at the airport and also at the zoo when she couldn't see what was going on in her stroller.

  • Nothing! *does the sound of music spin* because I'm trying to buy a house right now and I can only plan one thing at a time! Haha! Freedom of unpreparedness!
  • BTDT mamas ... What types of baby carriers are your favorite?  Which ones didn't work for you?  There are too many options!
I loved my baby k'tan the first 3 months, until DS was too heavy for it to be super comfy. I did a lot of research and trying various soft structure carriers, and absolutely love my Beco Gemini! DS is 13 months, and even with my pregnant belly I still wear him on my back in it. Main criteria for me were comfort of wear, ease of use, ergonomic position for baby, ability to face out, and not overly bulky or hot (critical for TX summers!).

I also considered the Ergo 360, but felt it was a lot bulkier and less convenient to adjust, and the Lillebaby Complete, but the shoulder straps were just not as comfortable for me.
