Easy slow cooker recipes

Does anyone have any easy slow cooker recipes that are quick and use common ingredients? I would love to use my slow cooker more often for easy meals. However, it just seems like a lot of recipes have a million ingredients and a ton of prep time required...which sounds delicious, but not exactly time saving. I'm looking for ones where you put a few things in there and walk away (oh, and non-onion because my hubby can't eat them). Currently I only know these two:
1. Throw some frozen chicken breasts and a jar of Ragu in for the afternoon and then serve over rice. I like to sprinkle some shredded cheese on top and let it melt.
2. Put frozen chicken breasts, a can of cream of chicken soup, some carrots and some chopped potatoes in there and cook for a few hours. (Again, I sprinkle cheese on top, but I have a serious cheese addiction).
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ladies  :)

Re: Easy slow cooker recipes

  • I do a lot of roasts in the slow cooker. Pot roast-I sprinkle montreal steak spice on it and sear in a frying pan, then toss it in the slow cooker with broth and veggies (like carrot, potato, turnip, cabbage, etc). Pork roast I use brown sugar, salt, pepper and some Dijon mustard to rub the roast, then add water and carrots, serve with mashed potatoes (or you could put potatoes in the slow cooker too). I also do pork roasts with just seasoning and some water, and when it starts to fall apart I make BBQ sauce and put it back on low for a bit for pulled pork-serve on a bun with salad. Chili works great-any recipe you like.

I rarely use recipes for the slow cooker, just think of it as a stew pot or casserole dish, throw in whatever you think goes together

  • English cut beef roast, potatoes, carrots, (onions & garlic). salt, pepper, beef broth. High for 6-8 hours until falling apart. Add veggies half way through so they don't get too soft.
  • I make "Meat me at the Chili" chili in the crockpot. Super easy!

    1 lb ground beef (browned)
1 lb ground Italian sausage (browned)
1 large jar of ragu or prego
1 diced green or red pepper
1 diced onion (or leave it out)
3-4 cans of red beans or Busch's chili beans in sauce

Set on low for 6 hrs or high for 3-4 hrs and stir occasionally. It tastes even better the next day!
Garnish with shredded cheese, crackers, sour cream, or goldfish crackers

I do pulled pork on lazy days.  Pork Roast, root beer for 5-5.5 hours. Pull the pork, add 1/2 a jar of BBQ and turn up to high for 30 minutes.  Done

I also do a pork tenderloin.  Salt, pepper, sage, garlic, 1/2 cup of water or so (I never measure any of this out).
For a sauce I do 1/2 cup of balsamic vinegar, 1 Tbsp dijon mustard, 1 Tbsp of honey, 2 or 3 cloves of minced garlic, rosemary (about 1 tsp, I don't measure this either), 2 Tbsp olive oil.  Reduce to thicken and coat every 15 minutes for the last 45 minutes.

These are both really easy to do and not difficult with LO and my 2 year old.

ETA: When I do the tenderloin I make sure to pour the water on the side so it doesn't wash the seasonings off the meat.
  • I have a chicken recipe I love but it's not the healthiest option.

Line the bottom with 1 package thin sliced chicken breast and cover with one can "cream of" soup (I use mushroom or celery just because I don't like the little chicken pieces in the cream of chicken). Cook on high 4 hours. Then prepare a box of Zatarains yellow rice according to the box directions and add that in with a can of corn and 8oz shredded cheddar.

So simple and my family goes crazy for it! Also, check Pinterest. These are a few tried and true Pinterest favs:

  • I second the pulled pork. Only other recipe I have is chicken tortilla soup but it has onions. It's soooo good though. Raw chicken, chopped onion, frozen corn, salt pepper, chili powder, cumin, a can of black beans(drained) and then you just dump the whole can for the rest of the ingredients: chicken broth, stewed skinless tomatoes, green chilies, enchilada sauce, i think that's it. The recipe is on allrecipes

We meal prep, so the crockpot is my bestie. Hmm deleted all my comment, so ETA: 1 lb chicken breasts with a packet of taco seasoning and a little chicken broth, for 4 hours on high; shred; serve on tortillas with taco fixings OR make burrito bowls with rice, corn, tomato, beans, cheese, etc. Google New Leaf Wellness... This lady has tons of healthy crockpot recipes. Most things do have onions, but I can't imagine omitting them makes THAT much of a difference.
  • Chicken, jar of salsa, can of corn, and black beans. Low for 4-6 hours and then you have tacos. It's one of my new faves.

We also love chicken and veggies of choice (we use potatoes and green beans) with Italian dressing. This can be crockpot or thrown in a baking dish all at once and baked at 350 for an hour.

Beef stew is another one I use often. I just use the recipe on the back of the McCormick seasoning packet.

Porkchops with a can of cream of chicken and a Ranch seasoning packet. Not the healthiest but DD1 likes it and I'll do anything to get her to eat meat.
  • Wow, thanks so much everyone! This helps  lot :) I really appreciate it!
  • If u have Pinterest there are a ton of recipes on there, I've had good luck with them
  • Large pack of chicken breasts, jar of salsa, can of black beans, frozen corn (I don't like canned corn).  At end of cooking, fork-shred chicken, and cube a brick of cream cheese on top of everything.  Replace lid, give cream cheese 5-10 minutes to soften, stir it in, and use it as enchilada filling, spread it on tortillas and top with lettuce, cheese, etc., use it as a nacho topping, whatever.  I also sometimes add taco or fajita seasoning to the crock pot, if the salsa isn't kicky enough.
  • Chicken breasts, a can of rotelle, can of corn (don't drain first), I pack of taco seasoning. On high for 4 hrs until the chicken shreds.
  • Look up crock pot lasagna!!! It's amazing and Soooooooo easy. We can even buy almost all the ingredients at the local Aldi for cheap as heck! It's a win-win. Made it for a dinner party and they didn't believe me how easy it was. Also IMPORTANT....it's even better heated up in the microwave the next day. :-)

@LoveLee85: do you brown the beef in a pan before cooking it in the slow cooker?

Yes! We also add a roll of browned spicy sausage to it. You can use mild sausage if you don't like spicy things. So yummy. I'll see if I link the recipe!!!!

    Slow Cooker Lasagna:

    1 small package of beef
1 roll of Italian sausage(spicy is my fav)
    2 tsp basil
    1 medium onion
3 cans of Italian style tomato sauce
    1/2 tsp salt
2 cups mozzarella cheese(I use the kind in a big ball and cut it into pieces)
    1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    1 container Ricotta cheese

brown beef and Italian sausage until cooked. Add to stovetop meat mix: basil, onion, tomato sauce, salt, let simmer for a few minutes. Crock pot on HIGH, layer meat mixture, then noodles(uncooked), then add 3 cheeses mixture. Keep repeating layers until you are out of ingredients. Cook about two hours. So yummy, easy and delicious. Can serve 6+!

  • 6 ingredients, 5 minutes of prep, all the boys in my family devour this recipe, so definitely add it to your arsenal: https://sweetandsimplecompany.com/2016/02/19/my-easy-peasy-crockpot-chicken/
  • Hawaiian chicken is one of our favs!
chicken breast, pineapple, and Hawaiian Bbq sauce (from target). Can serve over rice or I shred and make into sandwiches!
  • I miss Target so much! We only had it in Canada for about a year and a half. I'm so jealous when I read about it on here lol!!

  • @LoveLee85 thanks sounds so good!! Love that there's no pasta involved. Tying to avoid carbs to get the remainder of this baby weight off!
  • If you have FB, you should follow "Tasty".  They have a lot of slow cooker ideas & plenty of 30 min or less type meals.
  • Love this thread! My crocky is also my best friend! Some great recipes here. Thanks for sharing! :)
