Anyone else use stitch fix?

My clothes have been getting uncomfortably tight (10 weeks), but when I went to the maternity store in the mall, everything looked ridiculous on me since I don't have an actual bump yet. I ordered a box from stitch fix, and included a note that I was looking for things that would hide my stomach a bit, since I'm not telling anyone yet, and since I constantly look like I just left an all you can eat buffet. I got the box and I was super impressed with what they picked out. The stylist totally nailed it. Nothing that overtly says "maternity" but dresses, skirts and tops that are flow-y and loose enough that you can't tell at all. Plus great patterns that sort of draw the eye away from my stomach.

Anyone else try stitch fix during pregnancy? I think I'll try another box in a month or so when I need "real" maternity clothes.

Re: Anyone else use stitch fix?

  • I love doing stitch fix. The first few boxes weren't so great, but they really listened to my feedback and I was happy with them for a while. I read on one of the other BMB boards (maybe Sept '16?) that the maternity boxes were a big disappointment especially for the prices.

Luckily I have quite a few loose shirts to hide some of the extra lbs I had last year, but I've been struggling with pants. I think I'm just going to get a taylor to convert some regular jeans into maternity jeans so that I know I'll like the way they fit.

  • I have only received one box when I wasn't expecting - I was NOT a fan. My stylist did a terrible job. I think I'm getting the next box this week though. If this one sucks, then I'll cancel it.

A friend of mine is obssessed though and her work outfits are now mainly stitch fix items.

  • I have gotten one box since I told them I was expecting and the stylist did a great job sending a mix of maternity and flowy stuff. I kept 3 of the things.
  • How much does it actually send you at a time?

    BabyFruit Ticker
  • It's 5 pieces of clothing. I think the cost is $20 to order. Then they send you prices for each piece of clothing in the box and if you keep any, the $20 goes towards that. If you send it all back, you lose the $20. If you include info on what kinds of things you like in the notes and such, you're more likely to get stuff you like. Still no guarantee though.
  • Hmmm that's interesting, just not sure how I feel about possibly throwing away $20.

  • I wish I could do something like this. Being tall with a very large bust makes it incredibly difficult to find clothes that fit correctly though.

You put in all your sizes and preferences and can give detailed instructions to the stylist. And you can send pictures of yourself so they can see your proportions to better style you.

I do. I really like it. I started right after I had my son because going shopping quickly became a thing of the past. They are responsive to your notes and linking a Pinterest  board is really helpful.
  • I've been using it about a year now and typically keep about 2 pieces per box. Got my first maternity box last week and was pleasantly surprised! Keeping a skirt and pair of jeans, both maternity, that fit amazingly. Not cheap, but worth it!

  • I LOVE stitch fix. So much that I applied to become a stylist, lol! I haven't had an interview yet.

I started the service just after my son was born because as @thewizardofrhythm mentioned I just don't have time to go shopping for me anymore but looking nice is super important to me so stitch fix has been a lifesaver. After a couple of months I found a stylist I really liked and request him every month. He has my style totally pegged and does a great job each time. There prices are steep but almost always purchase at least 2 pieces. I have purchased the whole box a few times.

Last month I told my stylist I was pregnant and requested that he start sending things that would grow with me and hide my tummy awhile longer. He sent several great pieces this month that did just that. I purchased a gorgeous maxi that I will wear through the pregnancy an adorable pair of shorts that are stretchy so I'm hoping I will fit in them all summer.

You should definitely get another box. If anyone needs a referral code I'm happy to share mine!

  • I've been a LeTote member for almost 2 years.  LeTote is a little different because you actually get to "style" your own box- meaning pick the pieces that work best for whatever your plans are that following week.  I think it's really cut down on my excessive shopping habit because I feel like I can always have something new to wear without actually buying it.  I just switched over to LeTote Maternity (11w) because it's becoming increasingly hard to find things that fit.  I'm excited for my first maternity box this week.

  • I did stitch fix for 6-7 months and quit because I almost always hated my boxes. I don't feel like I'm that picky, but the stylists were always getting it wrong. Kept one dress, one shirt, and a purse out of all of those boxes that I absolutely love. Everything else went back. I always provided detailed feedback and the boxes only got worse and worse.

Move had friends with lots of good luck with it though. *shrug*

  • I love stitch fix! I get them every other month and have keep something every time, usually at least 2 pieces. I like that you don't have to get certain things, like jewelry, and can get more tops or pants instead. My last one I didn't tell my stylist I was pregnant so I'll need to update it before the next one so I don't get any more skinny jeans! I'm excited to get some maternity options from it, I hate spending time shopping. They just added shoes too which could be useful if my feet change size with this pregnancy.

You may have me convinced to try it. What does the referral code do?
  • I have 3 codes for free totes for friends that want to try LeTote too if anyone is interested.   It's just a thing they do to spread membership.

  • I love Stitch fix!  I suspended my subscription until June because I didn't want to get anything that I was not going to get to wear a lot since I did not know what to expect being pregnant now and figured I would not start showing for a few months so wanted more bump friendly options. I have plenty of clothes to get me up to that point.  So hopefully I will get some good stuff in a few weeks!

  • Yeah, I have mine set up to be sent on demand instead of monthly. I will ask for another box once the bump shows up!
  • I have gotten one box and kept one piece. I'm getting a maternity box this week. I've heard that my friends are successful if they stick with it and give good feedback, so I'm willing to try a few more times.

  • I love Stitch Fix, but I can't spend that much on clothes that I can only wear for 9 months or so, so I'm on pause.  I have a friend who recently got her first maternity box and she liked it.

  • I've done three boxes and have mostly been happy, I kept everything from the second box, I might request that stylist again. The third box was awful, minus a really awesome scarf. I just got a lot of wintery items and it was the end of March. She did try to give me items that would transition in early pregnancy, but I don't think she had a lot of experience with this as they weren't really good transition pieces(very stiff, no give.)
  • I hated my first box from stitchfix but ya'll have inspired me to try again! Just signed up for a 5/11 delivery. I asked for maternity bottoms and flowy tops so we'll see how they do...

The referral code gives a $25 credit to the referrer and I think the new sign up receives a credit as well. Heres my link! https://www.stitchfix.com/referral/5055841

Its pretty cool to get the credit. I've gotten several free items from friends signing up to receive a box. People see the cute outfits and ask you about it.

  • What are the prices on the clothes? Can you adjust the price of the things they send?

On your profile you indicate your preferred price range. Usually you can purchase the entire box (5 items) for around $250. Individual pieces range quite a bit depending on what it is but from $50-100 usually.

I'm not going to lie, its pricey imo. Without a doubt I could go to the store and get a better price on most of the things I choose to purchase. But for me, since I'm so limited on time, the convenience of not having to go searching for the item is worth the "premium" cost. I also think the quality of the clothes is quite nice.

  • @Roxell I am busty too (40G) and they've done a pretty good job of finding tops that fit.

whoah I thought you were basically buying the box of clothes every month for $20, but on top of that you have to pay for each piece of clothing? I was planning on starting this next month but now no way.

  • I've never done Stitch Fix but I do have a personal stylist I really like at Nordstrom. I've been shopping with him probably 3x over the last year and love it. It's similar in cost to Stitch Fix per item, saves me a ton of time, and helps me look much more put together on a daily basis.

Yes maam. The $20 is a styling fee. So you are paying the stylist to choose a look for you. However, IF You do choose to buy something then the $20 style fee gets credited to your acct towards the purchase. You aren't required to buy the entire box. You may decide you love a $45 blouse. So the credit would be applied and you would just owe $25 for the blouse. You keep the blouse and send everything else back (they include a prepaid shipping bag to send everything back in.)

  • @Chcaggie1 it all seems ridiculously priced. I can't understand paying $45 for a shirt.

LOL. ok.  I'm at a point now where I'm trying to invest in nice quality pieces for work for will last for a long time if well taken care of so its worth it to me. But I definitely see how not everyone would want to spend that much.

Agree that it's not the most affordable. I rationalize the price because it's sent directly to my home, it fits and it's my style. I didn't have to spend hours searching and driving. But, I can definitely understand not wanting to invest that much for sure.
