October 2016 Moms

A little stressed.

I'm a little worried that I'm having my first Ob-Gyn (Prenatal visit) at 14 weeks. Is it normal? Do I get to see my baby in the fist visit? I wanna know if my baby is developing well

  • I agree with pp. the reason for a doctor appointment is to make sure the baby is okay..
  • When you have your first appointment is dependent on the doctor/practice. Some doctors do US at the first appointment, some do not. Again, it depends on the doctor/practice.

So really, you won't be getting any answers from us.

  • Pretty much anywhere between 12-16 weeks is normal for your first OB visit.
You may or may not get an ultrasound with your first visit, it depends on your provider.
Either way, you'll likely have a dopplar and hear the heartbeat, be measured, and all that.
I notied that you're new, feel free to introduce yourself on the intros thread, check out the PSA, and feel free to take advantage of the search feature for future questions, they may have been discussed before and you can likely find a lot of answers and helpful information that way.
  • According to a very similar post you made on this board in March, your first appointment was scheduled for April 11th. What happened there? Did you not go?

I didn't have insurance the nurse suggested to wait to see if TennCare (insurance) was elibgibe. and gave me a new appointment but Im thinking it was a bad idea. Still not insured we decided to just pay it cash.
  • I don't know your situation, as to whether you're married, have a job, what's the household income, etc. but being pregnant you should be eligible for some support. If you make over the threshold you would have to buy insurance on the exchange. Your OB's office should have someone who can help you get an application and support. You obviously have access to the internet, you should submit an application if you're eligible for TennCare. They usually process the applications quickly.

I'm still waiting for a response, it's been over 2 weeks.. but thank you.
  • I did not have my first OBGYN app till 16 weeks and have yet to have my one and only ultrasound, which is at 20 weeks. I know how you feel, you just want to make sure everything is going well with baby. You kind of feel helpless.

@raehunniI work full time and have insuramce through my work. I listed me and baby as the only  two in the household. When i went for my first WIC appointment, i applied for Tenncare through the Marketplace. I was given immediate temporary tenncare(Bluecare) which lasted  for 45 days. During those 45 days, tenncare would make a decision as to wether or not i was eligible to keep my Bluecare. It took a little over the 45 days and the coverage was extended.  It was deciced that i could keep my BLuecare until dec. Just by being pregnant and having it Dr confirmed should be enough to get you temporary coverage at the least.
