Mood Swings?

Yesterday I noticed that I feel severely annoyed at things that don't usually bother me, like my friends. I'm the first one in our group of friends to have a baby, and DH told me when he was playing games yesterday one of our girl friends gave him a hug and told him congratulations. It was just an innocent thing, but I got angry! Not outwardly, but inside I felt pissed and territorial. I'm not usually a jealous person so this took me by surprise. He then told me how excited girl friend and her boyfriend are to celebrate his birthday with us, and I was so annoyed and went to sleep.

I'm a laid-back person so this is a bit upsetting to me. We're hosting games tonight with the same friends and I'm afraid I will be mean, and I don't like that. Has anyone experienced this before? Any advice?

  • While I don't feel jealous, my patience level has gone down to zero. All our close friends know, so I just apologize in advanced for anything I say. Poor DH gets the brunt of it. But growing up with 4 sisters, he doesn't take nothing from no one, so a lot of our clashes stem from my lack of patience and his unwillingness to let me have my way. I try to tell him pregnancy hormones are different from PMS hormones.

  • @dmontgo Yes I'm the same way. I am very short tempered and things bother me now that don't usually bother me. I yell at DH a lot now for silly things, like needing to invite MIL out to lunch to "discuss family history r.e. chromosomal abnormalities". Um no I can text that question thanks.

  • I am so glad I'm not the only one who is dealing with this! I'm usually pretty chill, and it's like I can logically recognize that my feelings are irrational but emotionally it's as if I can't help it. My frustration hasn't been geared towards DH yet, but everyone else lol. I think I'm going to use the tactic of apologizing beforehand when I hang out with friends, too, @phoenix870509 . And @Sugargirl1019 if I can avoid time with MIL I will, so I totally get this.
  • I'm very moody these days.  I know I'm over reacting and get annoyed with myself for it, but it's like I just can't help it.  I'm feeling very territorial of SO too @dmontgo even though he has given me no reason to be jealous.  While on the flip side I find myself getting super annoyed at him for things!  "MUST you breathe so loudly?!"
  • On the day we got our BFP DH's best friend told him about this new video game he's been playing, so DH went and bought it. OMG, it's all he plays now, and all he talks about. I can't tell you how over it I am right now. Usually we game together and he wants me to play this with him. I really have no interest in it. But when he gets something into his mind he wants me to play he does not let up, and I'm fixing to snap one of these days.

  • @JessCL It's the worst when you *know* you're being a bit crazy but you cannot help it. Mixed with Pregnancy Brain it's getting frustrating. I usually have an excellent memory and now it's pfftt.

@phoenix870509 ugh it's the same with my friends since we're not hosting game night every weekend like we were. "Why aren't you having Game Night waAhh!" So we're doing it today but I already feel annoyed because gaming is the farthest thing from my mind. They don't understand this, nor do they understand that I am simply exhausted. I almost feel like I'm starting to outgrow my friends lately...
  • @dmontgo sadly that happens. It's times like these that show who our true friends are. But you have us

  • @phoenix870509 We have been noticing the growing gap between us and friends for a little while now, but this has definitely accelerated it. They are great people, but as you know being a gamer, the demographics tend to be single people, sometimes older, their whole life is games, etc. When we first got married this was okay, but now that season of life is ending naturally and we're just ready to pursue other things. Still geeks, but branching out a little. Just don't have as much in common as we grow in our marriage and individually. I'm glad I have this place to make friends with people that can relate!

I hate people while pregnant. My patience is just gone. For each of my pregnancies there's been one otherwise really good friend (a different one each time) who I just couldn't tolerate being around. Everything she said annoyed me and I couldn't stand being around her. It happened again right off the bat this time and I'm very aware that I'm being the ridiculous one, but damn... hormones make me crazy and make certain people so intolerable!

  • @MamaWino I know exactly what you are talking about. The girlfriend mentioned in the original post? I can't stand her now. I had some issues with her before, like being hours late for events, among other little things that were manageable, but now I can't even be bothered to look at her. I know it's ME, and I know logically I am being ridiculous, but it's like I can't help it. I like to think I'm generally a nice person and I get along with pretty much everybody, but I am almost taken aback by my behavior. I haven't lashed out at her, but ignore her, and that's not nice...ugh.

I'm so moody too!! And my poor husband gets the brunt of it. I get so annoyed so easily but in the moment I don't realize what's happening. And then when the moment passes, I feel so bad. I feel guilty because I'm so excited to be finally pregnant after trying for so long that I feel like I should be acting happy all the time. But I can't control the moodiness!!

We're having the same clashes too! My husband doesn't want me to get away with my moodiness either.  He feels that if he gives in now that it will just get worse over the pregnancy.  He doesn't get that I really have no control over it!!
  • I recall some serious anger off and on last pregnancy. I'd like to think that usually I could tell it was pregnancy-related rather than rationally-related, but I'm probably giving myself more credit than I deserve Haha. So far I've just gotten overly emotional at movies/tv shows. I was bawling while watching Matilda yesterday. I'm really glad I was watching it alone.

  • @LinziLoo09 I don't blame you for crying over Matilda. It is sad! I'm not usually an emotional person (I have been described as stoic before) so the only reason I am aware of me being irrationally emotional is because I'm never that way and DH notices it. I never cry (although I wish it wasn't the case), but lately I feel like that's about to change lol. In a way, I'm kind of glad to be more emotional so I can just feel my feelings instead of being a stone that hides emotion and then deals later.

According to DH, I should have control over my emotions. I try telling him, hey, this is the first time I've ever been pregnant I have no clue what the heck to expect. But he still pushes back. Men.

  • I'm very emotional. I got teary-eyed like ten times today at church. Last night I got irrationally mad at DH and now I can't quite remember why. Hormones.

  • @cayaylonglegs GoT has some seriously effed up, tear inducing scenes. Sometimes I have to cover my eyes. >.>
  • I'm glad I'm not alone.  I'm extremely annoyed with everything as well. This is my first pregnancy and things annoy me that normally doesn't annoy me.
  • I hate everything and everyone...no discrimination here. Seriously though, I seem to get extremely angry over nothing. "Did you just look at me!?! WHHHHHHYYYY?????"

  • So moody the swings give me whiplash. Dh is getting frustrated with me, and I tell him I can't help it, but I should probably be a bit more considerate. On the other hand, I can cry at the drop of a hat. Dancing with the Stars will make me ugly cry every week. It's ridiculous. I cry rocking my toddler to sleep because he's not a baby anymore.

  • I don't usually have anxiety issues but this evening I've been spinning out about Zika and how will I make it through this pregnancy (I am awful at being pregnant) and I just need to get through first tri - but DS is growing up too and I should cherish his time and not wish that these months were just done with and what if I lost DH and and and. Ugh.

  • @slartybartfast I know what you mean. I have known anxiety, but it's usually not serious. Tonight though I started getting upset because I am afraid I will get fat or gain too much weight and then will I EVER lose it?! I'm exercising and for the most part eating healthfully and getting my water... Trying to be gentle with myself because I am growing our child and that's more important than some extra weight. Whew, feels good to get that off my chest. :)
