@smmatt08 - girlllll I hear ya. We had our home completely renovated about three years ago and I'm still having nightmares about it.
  • @MRSCORKER I'm right there with you. I'm 16 weeks and look a lot further along. But I have noticed the past two weeks, my bump looks about the same and the rest is going down a little bit. I was talking to one of my friends about maternity pants and she said, "I didn't wear maternity pants until after I was 30 weeks." WHAT? I can't even think about my regular pants. Right now I have to live in dresses.

I feel so self conscious. I don't want to be naked and I don't want to see myself in a mirror. It's awful

I'm sorry you feel this way too but I'm glad I'm not alone. When I hear about women like your friend, it blows my mind. I've been in maternity clothes for a couple of weeks now. I'm also oddly self-conscious about my belly button. Seeing it through shirts weirds me out, it's like I want to fill it in so it can't be seen. Why am I such a weirdo?!

  • @MRSCORKER Everyone starts showing at a different time.. FTM or not. I had one friend who had a baby bump at week 12 and was a FTM and she looked adorable! Just embrace the bump.
  • @MRSCORKER I'm in the same boat!  I've never been thin, but I work to maintain my size 12/14 - though I've been heavier when I wasn't pregnant and I've never had a belly like this!!  I can't even attempt to suck it in - it just sticks out.  BUT, it's not like it feels like a hard baby belly, it just feels like fat.  And, I just feel like I'm bloated all the time.  I have this constant image of my mother in my head (who is amazing and I mean nothing bad by this) - she was always my size, if not thinner before having kids, but since, she's had a belly that just never went away.  I'm terrified this will happen to me!!

And @emmaaa 30 weeks??? I haven't exactly rocked my couple pairs of maternity pants yet (i'm 15 weeks today!), only stretchy leggings with a high waist band, but the thought of buttoning pants and then sitting down in them makes me cringe. I had to give up on real pants at like 12 weeks...just been working on dresses and leggings. No offense to your friend, but I think she's either lying or a freak of nature.  Or just the luckiest girl ever.
  • As for a weekly random - why do some bosses feel like they can just be total a-holes to their employees?  Just because you're in a higher position than me does not mean I'm stupid or of less value than you.  I work my tail off for your company and I don't get a thank you or even a good-bye on a phone call or email or just plain ever.  Why do I work so hard for you again?  To be completely disrespected?

Seriously, these hormones make it really hard to stay strong and not start bawling at work...
  • @fitlady21 I'm trying to embrace the bump! I'm not trying to hide it by any means. I'm happy to hear about your friend who was legit showing so early. I can feel which part of my belly is bump and it's definitely there so I take comfort in that.

@LMNOBaby I think much of my worry is because I spent most of my life as a 14/16 (I'm 5'3") and in the past few years I lost about 75 lbs and was feeling amazing. I had this fantasy that since I lost weight and was starting this pregnancy at a much smaller size, that I would be one of the lucky ladies who stays thin and just has a cute baby bump. I have learned my lesson. lol. I'm being healthy and am working on accepting what is. I'm growing a person so all the haters can kiss it. (There are probably zero haters, they are all in my head)

  • On Friday after DH announced to his office, his boss told us that he thinks we are going to be like Phil and Claire Dunphy from "Modern Family" and I was so excited I almost hugged him.

@LGW2015 Happy birthday! That looks amazing!

@smmatt08 Tell me about it. We have been trying to do some projects before the baby comes and it's overwhelming. Then I feel guilty for spending money (even though the projects need to be done) instead of saving for the baby.

@MRSCORKER I'm in the exact same boat. I had a breakdown over the weekend because none of my regular clothes fit anymore. I don't have a "cute" bump yet (13+1) - my entire midsection has just blown up. It's hard not to feel down about it but I keep reminding myself that this is just the awkward period before the bump "pops" and I can stop feeling like a water buffalo...I hope...

We'll probably still feel like water buffaloes but at least we'll have an obvious baby bump and hopefully some kicks to remind us of why :)

I love Phil and Claire so much and joke all the time that my H is Phil. He will definitely be the "fun" dad and I will have to be the strict one. Hopefully he doesn't show up at home with any Llamas. lol

  • So I'm not diving into the appropriateness-of-throwing-your-own-shower discussion that took place on one of the other threads.  And I'm not going to comment on the appropriateness of throwing a "sprinkle" shower for a mother who is having a child of the same sex almost exactly two years after her first child (so not only does she already have sex-appropriate clothing and other items, she will be using them during the EXACT SAME SEASONS that she needed them for her first child -- so no issues with needing 6 month summer clothes and 12 month winter clothes instead of the reverse here.)

But being bugged not once, but TWICE (once by the dad and once by the shower host) on the same day to RSVP when the RSVP due date isn't nearly for two weeks?  Hell.  No.  I'm purposefully avoiding replying as a stand against their rudeness, even though I know I'm probably going to have to go to this trainwreck (dad is a good friend of DHs, I have no good excuse not to go, and DH will likely catch hell if I skip it.)  People can be so stinking rude.

  • She did say she was able to use the belly band for most of the time up until then. She is naturally thin and I guess she wears lower rise jeans than I do. The belly band was totally unsuccessful for me.

It didn't work for me either. I have hips so it just rolled up or down or both. I didn't like the hair tie trick either. It kept my pants on but the zipper kept falling down. My shirt covered it up but I was worried all day because it felt breezy. lol

  • @emmaaa That belly band was useless.  It rolled down, did NOT keep my pants together (as I recall they basically slid down my backside when I went to sit), and just made me feel lumpier.  *sign* yet another day I've wished for being naturally super thin...
  • @MRSCORKER You are right - we're growing people, so haters be damned!  And, you worked hard to lose weight and feel better before, you have the same strength and willpower inside you to do so afterwards - plus another reason to get healthy, your future with your child!  Be as healthy as you can, but don't be afraid to indulge - pregnancy is hard! And we can't drink to ease the pain, so we deserve the treats!  It's so easy to worry about what will happen or how we'll look, when only time will tell - and who knows, we might be pleasantly surprised it's not as bad as we thought!  :)  (Plus there will be wine to drink then, which always makes things better...)  I'm trying to keep everything in check, but not beat myself up when I indulge.  Women are so hard on themselves, this should be the one time we're not!
  • @MRSCORKER On a somewhat positive note, I felt the same way at 14 weeks but at 16 1/2 weeks I feel a little smaller or at least the same that I was at 14 weeks. I think the bloat went down a lot. It still comes back by evening (worse with each meal) but in the morning I definitely feel smaller. I think the bloat will start to subside and then be replaced with a super legit baby bump soon just hang in there :p

I don't think it's the age gap as much as the immaturity/recklessness combined with the age gap. When I was 23 I dated a 46-year-old but I was VERY CAREFUL! I totally recommend every girl date a bit out of her comfort zone but don't get KU while doing it!

  • <ducks head out>  In case this thread is getting anyone down on belly bands -- I'm far from thin, and I have two belly bands and I love them so far.  They mostly stay where I put them and one did a really good job of holding up and covering unbuttoned/unzipped jeans this weekend.  I'll wear mine even over buttoned pants as a little bit of extra coverage and in case I decide I need to unbutton them early in the day.  So they do work for some people!  <ducks head back in>

  • @simcal18 Do you have one that's made out of nylons/tights material?  Or is there something more heavy duty out there?  I was expecting it to be more cotton, like the the bottom half of a tank top. Something like that I think may work for me... I was actually sort of looking for it mainly to wear over my buttoned pants, just to smoooooth it all out.

Mine are a nylon/cotton blend that are a little bit thicker than the thickest pair of tights I own when super stretched out and maybe just a touch thinner than the camisoles I typically wear under shirts:

I am short and so shirts typically cover my belly/most of my zipper, so the bella band is really just an extra layer of security that holds tight and keeps things in place.  I think mine are think enough to smooth things out and certainly use them that way, but your experience may differ.

  • Thanks @simcal18 ! I'm ordering today!

P.S. Has anyone gotten a load of all the other crazy belts and bands and contraptions to keep you smoothed out, your belly lifted and your groin compressed?? There's even a full body shaper with the belly cut out... no joke. I mean, I'm all for some Spanx (they're a curvy girl's best friend!), but holy crap, that's frightening...
