Moms of Multiples Weekly Check in: Week of April 25th

Hello fellow moms of multiples!

I will start this thread every Sunday or Monday with some discussion questions for everyone to answer when they have time. I would love for this thread to be dynamic and for people to continue posting throughout the week. So just because you've posted once and have answered all of the questions, doesn't mean you shouldn't post again with a question or anything else you're thinking about!

Here are our discussion questions for this week:

1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

13 weeks and expecting di di twins

2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

We will get the results back of our cell free fetal DNA testing next week.... our NT scan and bloodwork came back low risk, but I'm still looking forward to the additional reassurance from the DNA testing.

3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

I have been up and down this week. I'm noticing a lot of physical changes in my body. I've had some round ligament pain and a significant "growth spurt" in my belly. My back has been hurting more. These changes are both exciting and scary! I've never been pregnant before so I just have never experienced anything like it.

4. Question of the week: What physical changes are you noticing in your body these days?

I already posted about some of mine, but I've been noticing round ligament pain and growth in my belly. I've also gotten 2 small stretch marks (sob). I knew I was prone to stretch marks, but I am seriously terrified about how many I'm going to get during this pregnancy. I've also noticed an increase in back/neck pain and tightness this week. I notice that during growth spurts, my symptoms tend to increase, and then they let up after a few days.

On the plus side, I am feeling less nauseated! I think I am past that terrible first trimester sickness.

  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

14w3d and expecting di di twins

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

Finding out gender in about two and a half weeks.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

I had another bleeding scare on Friday morning, about 4 weeks after the last time. This time was much worse, and i thought for sure this was it. However, both babies are fine and wiggling still, cervix is long and closed, placentas are well above the cervix, so we have no idea what caused it (yet again). It's beyond frustrating, and I see my doctor tomorrow morning for a follow up. I have a feeling bed rest is in my very near future.

    4. Question of the week: What physical changes are you noticing in your body these days?

I was worried I wasn't going to have much of a belly for a while considering I'm already overweight, but i noticed my belly pop at about 12 weeks, and now its noticable to everyone else too! I love it soooooo much. Constantly rubbing and patting my belly without even thinking about it! No new stretch marks, but i did get a little cyst at thr top of an old one, which has happened before if i gained some weight really quickly. I'm not worried about it.

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

    Anatomy scan on 5/4!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

My toddler took a scary bad fall yesterday, so we had a rough night. I'm pretty much at my breaking point, since my husband has been away on business for 9 days already (still a week to go!) and I am just so exhausted :(

On a positive note: I felt a couple kicks from the outside this past week already! Crazy early, but I guess it makes sense with there being 2 in there.

    4. Question of the week: What physical changes are you noticing in your body these days?

I get tired so quickly already, and have been getting Braxton hicks or rlp if I push myself too much during the day. The headaches are no joke, too. I feel big, but am kind of loving the bigger bump this time around (though it makes me a little scared for the end!).

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

So much movement! I love it!

    4. Question of the week: What physical changes are you noticing in your body these days?

Lots of BH already, daily headaches are back, and I'm super emotional.

Hopefully finding out the sexes on May 10

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

For the past 8 days or so, I have been having aching right in the bottom of my lady parts. If I am on my feet too long, or even just sitting too long, I start to really feel it. Every now and then I am also getting a shooting pain in my lower back. I am sure this is all just part of the process but I have an OB appointment tomorrow so I will cover it then.

    4. Question of the week: What physical changes are you noticing in your body these days?

My butt and thighs are thickening up a bit more than I would like! :) My bump is making an obvious appearance.

  • Did any of you get an "adjusted" due date or timeline from your doc? My OB has an altered schedule for appointments, but I am not 100% sure what to expect at the end. I plan to ask at my next appt if they would want to schedule me for delivery ahead of the 40wk due date. I'm basically figuring that 38 weeks is my more accurate EDD.
  • @kmvisioli  My Dr said I should expect to have delivered by 38 weeks so my EDD will be Sept 17 instead of Oct 1 :) & so far babies have measured a little bigger so that makes me feel good

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

    Feeling kicks!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

We've started planning our nursery for our boy & girl.  So fun!!

    4. Question of the week: What physical changes are you noticing in your body these days?

I've obviously noticed by belly for a long time but now it's popped and others notice it too:).  I've also had some back pain & heartburn.. But honestly I've worked so hard to be here so I'm just taking it all in and loving the experience!!

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

This Saturday at 15w we have an elective gender scan. I am so excited it hurts but mainly because I want to start calling them by name. Fingers are crossed so hard that they show it off easily.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

We've started planning our nursery for our boy & girl.  So fun!!

    4. Question of the week: What physical changes are you noticing in your body these days?

Last night was a ton of stretching and tight feelings in my uterus and this morning I woke up to a significantly bigger belly and no more pains. It popped overnight and the twins are showing off big time.

  • @daisy19782011 thanks for the encouragement! It is so good to hear someone who had already been through twins say good things. Most people seem to just see the double work!
  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

    16w2d; expecting di/di twins

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

    Anatomy scan on 5/9.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

Our OB did an ultrasound last week, and confirmed one boy definitely, the other he suspects is a girl, but he wouldn't guarantee it that early.  I'm calling them by the names I want to give them for b/g twins.  Hubby hasn't objected to that so far.

I felt one of the babies kick Saturday night.  I've been feeling their flutters since 12 weeks, but this was most definitely a kick I felt when I happened to have my hand on my belly.

My rant is the leg aches.  I didn't have these with DS.  My feet are starting to swell mildly too.  Also didn't have that with DS.  I don't know if it's the difference in seasons, my age, or it being twins.

Another rant is that my maternity clothes are mostly fall/winter, and I've had to find a spring/summer maternity wardrobe.  Some things can work all seasons here, but I'm hot already, and it's only April.  I foresee a long, hot summer ahead for me.

    4. Question of the week: What physical changes are you noticing in your body these days?  I've noticed my bump has gotten more defined, but not as much as I'd have thought by now.  I can tell the babies move about though, and it drastically changes the shape of the bump.  I've even had friends comment on it.

Question for all:  Are you leaning towards tandem or side by side strollers, and why?

My OB said 38 weeks max for me.
  • @JessK1014  We are going to go with tandem - specially the contours tandem stroller.  We decided tandem because it will be easier to manuver in public at places like Target and the airport. & easier to store in our vehicles.   But- I'm looking for a used side by side jogger to keep in the garage for hikes & walks around our home.
  • @JessK1014 We don't know yet. We will get the Donkey, City Select, or Vista.  We have Maxi-Cosi Prezi seats so we are limited on what strollers we can get.  Naturally, they are the expensive ones.

  • I'm also planning on the Contours Options Elite (tandem). Even though it is technically bigger. it seems easier to handle doorways and aisles in stores. I like that it has so many options for seat arrangements. Seems like a lot of more compact side-by-sides can't accommodate two infant car seats, which I need since I will also have an 18-mo-old in tow.
  • Sorry for the late reply, but here goes!

    1. I'm 17w2d with didi twins. We had an ultrasound yesterday and it looks like we are having two boys! We will be able to confirm at our 20 week anatomy scan.

    2. Next milestones are the anatomy scan and the fetal echo at 21 weeks. Since they are IVF babies, or doctor recommends they get their hearts looked at more closely. We had no clue that IVF was correlated with heart defects, so that is kind of scary.

    3. Rants - the nausea continues and has not let up. Raves - started prenatal yoga this week and a loving it so far!

    4. Physical changes - mostly just my belly getting bigger.

We live in a big city so are planning on getting a tandem stroller. We have decided on the city select, but I wish it wasn't so expensive. I have seen quite a few on craigslist and might go that route, if we can find one that is practically brand new.

My OB also says that she will not let us go beyond 38 weeks, which puts our adjusted due date at Sept. 20th.

  • @eowens95 both strollers we had for DS were second-hand, and they were just fine. Sometimes Buy Buy Baby has floor samples marked down, or open box items on clearance. Also check if your neighborhood/area has a Beg, Barter, and Sell Facebook page- my region even has one specific to kid stuff, and I find it a little more trustworthy than craigslist. Congratulations on your boy news! I bet they will be best buds :)
  • Thanks!! @kmvisioli Thank you also for the great tips!
  • I think a while ago the question of how we might announce genders was asked...I just realized that my anatomy scan is a couple days before Mother's Day, and now I'm really excited to use that as our reveal day!
