Re: TWW post for April 18-24!

  • Hi, I'm new to the site but TTC. My AF was due 4/15 and I'm always on time within a day so kinda freaking out! BFN when I tested 4/15am and tested again this morning and another negative. I spotted a little bit yesterday and today but only after a BM ( sorry if tmi) but I have a friable cervix so that's not unexpected for me. This waiting is killing me! Nice to see a place to share with others over 35. Anyway considering going to doc if no AF by Friday, thoughts anyone?

I am now in the TWW!! Today is my O day and DH and I did the BD on 4/15 - 4/17!  We are trying for a girl so we are trying to see if doing the BD before O day really works ( FC) so now the waiting begins!! Wish me luck!!
  • @Momifbysea I would call your OBs office if you are AF free and still getting BFNs a week after AF was due (so the 22nd I think). There are a million reasons AF can be late (pregnancy, infection, stress, hormonal imbalance). If you develop pelvic pain you should definitely see your OB as that can also be a sign of PID.

I ended up having O pains on CD 19 (super late!) so not sure how many DPO I am...anywhere from 8-11ish? I normally have spotting 4-5 days before AF, nothing so far, but if I O'd late that may still be coming. I've had yet another cold the last two days (complete with fever and cold sores!! Argh!). I've been trying really hard to manage with just Tylenol, but I'll probably have to take some sudafed or guafenesin to make it through work tomorrow.

No symptoms thus far, but my SO turned to me yesterday and said "I think this is going to be our month" with the most earnest face ever! I'm hoping his instincts are right :)

    good luck everyone!

  • @PoeMasque thank you for that and I have fx for you that this is your big month!!! I love the "earnest face" can just picture it. All the best to you both! And hope you feel better soon from that cold.
  • @Praying4agirl78 fx big time for you!
  • Update: AF came with a vengeance this morning, 6 days late. I haven't been off by more than a day or two in like a decade at least! Needless to say it's a rough day. I really believed. One more cycle left before my DH leaves for the summer for work. I'm wondering if we are too late with 42 on the horizon but know I need to stay positive. This sudden irregularity is also a wake up call for me that I can't just use my period tracker app which assumes O date. I need to test for that and am totally naive on this so would appreciate any advice on how-to's and best timing, etc. I also learned today from my SIL who's an NP that the prolactin involved in maintaining a breastmilk supply (I'm still nursing once at night) is a hormonal suppressant so some women can't conceive during this time. So I'm going to attempt to quickly wean and try to time O right for this last chance for awhile cycle...
  • @Momifbysea - so sorry to hear this...AF came for me as well, sigh.

They say the OPK is best with first morning's urine, at least that's what it said on the package.  I never had good/reliable results so haven't used them.  I had to use them for the RE testing this last month and I started at CD 11 and was to test until I got a solid smiley face, not a blinking (was told specifically to use the Clearblue Easy kind aka most expensive!).  Well, I had no face at all on CD 11, then for the next several days it was blinking smiley.  I had to go in on CD15 if I didn't get the solid smiley to determine if I O'd, and I never got the solid smiley by CD15, so I went in and they determined I had already O'd, so the tests didn't work right for me.  We did BD once I got the blinking face, as that's when you're supposed to, but I had no clear sign that I was ovulating even though it was confirmed that I had.  I hope that you find good results with using them!!!  I just never have.

  • @jennh75b I'm so sorry for your news too. Thanks for the OPK advice and we shall see what next cycle brings for us. I guess I feel like even if the test doesn't work for me, adding it can't hurt anything. With regular cycles I didn't feel the need but now that my body is all over the place I'm wanting to step this up a bit!
  • @Momifbysea so sorry to hear AF came. Every 6 mos or so I will O late and be 3-4 days "late", so I know what a heartbreaker it is when AF arrives after you've talked yourself into the whole "maybe I'm just one of those women who never get a positive urine test". I made a conscious decision not to use OPKs because my schedule is too crazy (I work nights three days per week) and because it would drive me bananas to have that much pressure on BD. We decided to just BD every other day from CD 8 on and it has been a lot less stressful for both of us. My OB said BD every other day from CD 10-16 was recommended, no need for OPKs.

On a side note, my brown spotting arrived today, so it looks like business as usual :( I expect AF in about 4 days. (Which will be 4-5 days late for me - confirmation that this was one of those late O months).

Hopefully there is someone left here in the TWW that might get a BFP!

  • Oh @PoeMasque I was so hoping this was your month! You (we) will get there! I can see how the OPK might make it more stressful and BD every other day sounds like a good plan. Continued t&p for you!
  • I just came from the RE - she said I should use the OPK that just have either a no face or a solid smiley face, that that one just checks for LH and that the advanced one I should avoid because it checks for more than one hormone.  I'm not saying you should use the one they told me, but wanted to give you the feedback since I mentioned the trouble I had with the advanced one not "working" for me.

So sorry @PoeMasque !!!  I understand your frustration with the BD.  My RE just told us we could BD every day instead of every other day because his SA was good.  Both my OBGYN and PCP had told me every other day.  So I really don't know how we're going to pull all of this BD'ing off...it was hard enough with every other day!

so sorry to hear ladies, been watching this thread hoping for good news, esp, b/c I could relate to so many of your symptoms and being late. That whole getting your hopes up to end in disappointment and frustration is the worst. One of these months it's going to happen!

@poemasque I have to agree with just BD'g a lot from CD8 on. I know some women feel OPK helps, but for me, that extra pressure to BD at certain time causes more stress than helps. My husband has a job with crazy hours, if he's having one of those 12 hour days, that would not be the day to press him for BD, and if I know I had the smiley face - it would totally upset me and increase resentment, and I would be kicking myself for the rest of the month "did I miss my chance?"... not worth it.

  • So sorry too ladies! I have been watching as well and hoping the best for you all! I am not using OPK's either and I am also keeping the house free of HPT's. If I don't get AF by May 18th then I will get an HPT (if I can hold out until then). Peeing on sticks makes me even more intense and obsessive than I already am!..haha
