Spotting

I am not going to Dr Google or get myself into a tizzy about this but my CM had a light pink tinge this evening 7w2d. I will of course call the doctor if it becomes something more. But seeing as this is the first time this has happened and my first pregnancy I am slightly panicking.

I know this can't be to uncommon, but I'd feel a lot better if you ladies would tell me some of you have experienced this as well. Please feed my need to be validated!

Re: Spotting

  • Spotting is definitely common, but absolutely nerve-wracking. Try not to worry though, as hard as that is. I had light spotting with both of my girls and everything turned out fine. My m/c was drastically different... bright red from the second it started. I hope that it turns out to be a fluke thing for you!

  • I totally understand!!! I had bright red spotting off and on throughout my first trimester with my now 2yo DS and it scared me to death! I called the Dr each time - a couple times they had me come in just to check, more often it was just wait and see and it was a very healthy, totally normal pregnancy :-) They never did find a 'reason' for the spotting. This time around I'm currently 6w2d and I had bright red spotting last Mon/Tues and again yesterday morning. I called last week and was given guidelines in which to wait and see. I didn't call yesterday as it stopped by the next time I went to the restroom. Spotting can be totally normal for some women and I'm guessing I'm just one of them :-) It can be scary but can also be just fine!

  • Sorry this is happening. I know how scary it is. I had an episode of pinkish CM earlier this week and contacted Dr. She said light pink spotting is fairly common and it's probably fine. Your doc might offer a u/s if you call.

  • What PPs have said :)  Any kind of spotting is terrifying but almost always normal.  This is my fourth baby and I still had to talk myself down from the ledge this morning when I found some light pink this morning.  I find it more in the mornings after sex the night before...our bodies are easily irritated these days!

  • common! I've never had light pink but I have had brown spotting and I've always been told as long as it's not bright red you are fine :)

  • Just like pp's have said, a lot of women have it. With my mc I knew, it was bright red, and super heavy. I spot also after sex, the morning after and lightly through the day. It is so scary. It doesnt matter if its baby 1 or baby 15 lol, we get scared. Just hang in there and contact dr if anything changes.
  • I almost made a thread about this same topic this morning!

I have had light brown spotting almost every day for the last 2 weeks. It comes on goes... sometimes is there when I wipe, and sometimes not. Sometimes it's more, sometimes it's not much. This is my first child, so I am not sure what to expect.

I figure that unless it's bright red, it's common. I don't have my first appointment until June 3 (yes, SO far away)... but was thinking of calling and asking if it continues for another week. But, I also do think it's normal.

I've had brown spotting for a couple of weeks and everything seems fine so far.  I did call right away and I am glad that I did because my doctor's office has taken great care of me.  And taking to the nurses helped calm my nerves.
  • I had very light pink spotting in my 4th week for a day or so and now again this week. It is only when I wipe. I did have bleeding with my previous three as well and they were all born healthy and full term. I have also had three miscarriages so this always has me on edge but I'm trying to stay calm this time around.

  • I've almost started this thread so many times this week, too! I started spotting (bright red...not a lot, but so stressful) on Saturday. We went to the ER and were basically told my HCG was too low for a viable pregnancy. My OB disagreed and had me do more betas and they are doubling well so that's good.. I don't feel like I'm out of the woods yet, but my doctor keeps saying that spotting and even bleeding in many cases can be perfectly normal. Stressful, but very normal.

Fingers crossed for all of us!
  • Spotting is so disconcerting!! I've always been told not to worry about light pink or brown as that is likely old blood. A good friend of mine had bright blood blood at the beginning of her pregnancy, enough to fill a pad, and she was totally fine and has a perfect two month old boy to show for it. I think, regardless of other's experiences, spotting always warrants a call to your OB if it makes you feel better and they are happy to help you!

  • I had bright red blood with my last. It was a sub chorionic bleed. Extremely common. Everything turned out fine!
  • Good to read all of this. I finally gathered up the courage to have sex with DH last night. No spotting, thank goodness. The thought of it terrifies me right now!

  • Spotting is normal, but totally scary. With my first I started spotting at 9 weeks and it scared the crap out of me. But the best advice I can give you is call your Dr. hear it from them and you will sleep a whole lot easier. If you have an amazing Dr. they may even have you come in and get an ultra sound just to make sure everything is ok, they don't want you stressed.
  • 6w1d and had one bout of brown spotting. Called OB since my last two pregnancies ended with miscarriages. They had me go in for a blood draw and I should have the numbers tomorrow. I was already scheduled for my first ultrasound this coming Monday, but am hoping they will move it up to tomorrow. I am on pins and nails and symptom spotting (i.e. is that an abdominal cramp?).

  • I too have had on and off spotting for several weeks now. I have called my OB and they tell me that it's normal and to call if I have heavier bleeding or cramping. My mind will not be at ease until I see that HB which has now been rescheduled to May 6th. :( I hate the waiting game. I'm glad i read this thread to hear of others going through the same thing.
  • I experienced some light brown spotting yesterday and light pink spotting today. I was very concerned so we went to the ER today. We had an u/s and we saw the HB!  I am very happy that we were able to see the HB, but I still feel nervous about it all. I'm happy to see that there have been successful pregnancies after spotting/bleeding. Thanks for sharing your stories.

    Best wishes to you all!
  • If it makes anyone feel better - I spotted during my entire first pregnancy... and had a healthy baby.... spotting a little this time around, but Im not super worried. DR says only be worried if you see TISSUE and heavy blood flow like a period accompanied with pain....
