Baby won't turn head, flat spot.

My baby ALWAYS sleeps on the left side of his head, despite all the "tricks" I was told to get him to stop. He had a flat spot on his head, at his 6 month check up, about 2 weeks ago, the doc wasn't the least bit concerned, he didn't even check his head. He said since he's sitting up now and will be mobile soon, it would work itself out. I just don't see how 12+ hours on that one side sleeping will work itself out even with being mobile & sitting up. I try turning his head once he's out but he just whips it back, or he wakes up & starts crying - so sometimes it's not even worth trying to move him. He doesn't have torticolitis bc he moved his head and neck in all directions throughout the day and even in naps he'll let me move his head, just NOT at night. I know it's all cosmetic but I don't want my baby waking around with a lopsided head if I can do something about it.

Thoughts?

    Are you sure it's not torticollis? My LO could still move his head both ways but it was very noticeable that he had a wider range on one side (the side he slept on) than the other. I'm not sure how flat you're talking but if you think it's substantial, I'd push the ped for a referral to a specialist. If they wont, get a 2nd opinion or see if you can get a consultation appointment with an orthotist for no charge. If nothing rlse, it will at least ease your mind. Some peds unfortunately do not think it's a big deal sometimes but it can be. I'd do it sooner rather than later since most babies do get helmets around 6 months. If you wait much longer, helmeting is either less effective or it takes longer. There's a great FB group called plagiocephaly-support/information/advice that could help you too. People post photos of their child's head and others respond to get an idea of how severe the flat spot is. Good luck!

    All of this. My DD had torticollis but was still able to turn her head both ways. A flat spot can become more than just a cosmetic problem so I'd do something about it now.

    I would have your lo evaluated by a chiropractor just to make sure there isn't torticollis. My lo had the same preference but could still turn her head both ways. The chiropractor has made a world of difference for her and she was also able to gently manipulate lo's skull so her flat spot disappeared. They are super gentle, my lo smiles and talks through her adjustment.
