STMs When did you start?

When did you all start getting your prior baby stuff organized if you have a larger age gap? There will be 4.5 years between our children and I kept most of the bigger stuff but after sitting in storage everything needs a good clean. Just wondering how early you started preparing, last time I just slowly worked away at things. This time is seems like there is so much more to get organized.

Re: STMs When did you start?

  • Er ... a week before? haha. I'm not sure, I haven't done much of anything yet. Probably by August I'll start getting clothes washed, car seat in, etc.

  • I'm not starting for a while. Last time I bought and set up everything months before and it just takes up so much space. Also, I'm not planning on pulling out the bumbo/ exersaucer/ push walker until baby is actually ready to use it. I'll probably just get the pack n play and play mat out to start.
  • I have already started, very slowly but I did start. I tossed all of the bottles that we saved :( I've been doing a lot of research and we decided to buy all new bottles this time around, we exclusively formula feed and it will be about 3.5 years since we used the smaller bottles. We started to clean the big stuff but  I haven't started with the clothing yet, I was thinking July/August, so that I can wash and put away all in one shot.

I just don't know where to put the stuff as we clean it, we haven't started on the nursery yet, right now the nursery is a catchall for stuff we don't know what to do, so hopefully in the next few weeks, we can get that together or at least get all of the non baby stuff out

I haven't even started and I'm feeling a little edgy about it.  I can't really get moving until we've moved the dude out of the nursery and into his big boy room, and my husband isn't finished spackling yet so... it might be a while.  Yikes!

The first time around I got started around 34 weeks, since that was when we finally moved into our house.
  • I have only bought new stuff (mostly clothes) so far, since #2 is a girl. We don't have a large age gap, DS is 20 months now, but all of the newborn stuff is put away.

I just oust received her bedding last night, and I'm deciding on paint colors now. Mostly because I want to paint in the next few weeks before I'm huge and it's uncomfortable. I plan to buy decorations slowly over the next few months and then my goal is to buy new furniture and set up the nursery in July. After I get that done, I'll work on prepping our baby stuff that's in storage.

DS was two weeks early due to high BP, and I was on bed rest the last few weeks, so I want to be pretty much set by mid-August.

  • This is our fourth. I'm planning on busting all the baby stuff out around mid/end of August. Mostly for the benefit of the other kids so they have a chance to get used to it being around and I re-learn that certain things are will be mostly off limits (like the baby swing). I "nested" really badly with my last DD and had everything ready about 2 months prior to her arrival.

  • Whenever I wanted to. Usually after I find out what it is. Nesting always starts for me sometime in the second trimester, and I want to look at sweet little baby clothes. It helps a lot if you have somewhere to put it all. Right now all of our leftover baby stuff is in cardboard boxes in the storage shed. I'm planning to get plastic containers to keep it all in, and sort through and wash everything as I move it over. I won't be doing that until we find out what baby is.
  • My girls will be 4.5 years apart and I am getting things organized for baby now.  Her room closet was FULL of baby stuff, like falling out of the door.  So Friday I went through and pulled out what would be used soon and things that would be used at age 6 months and over got packed up and put in the attic.  We need to double hang the closet so I needed to clear it out to organize.  I actually stuck the crib in the room right after finding out because my Mom happened to be redoing my big girls room right after we found out we were expecting so the timing was perfect.

I had my H pull down the NB-6 month bin of clothes so I can pull out what I will use and get rid of what I want so I can have an idea of what I need to buy for her.  I won't do any purchasing of clothes or car seats until August.  We will probably paint and set up most of her room between June and July, the timeline is pretty on par with what we did the first time around.

  • Probably this summer...as a teacher I won't be working so I'll be able to do some stuff around the house, hopefully :)

  • My first is only 19 months old so her baby stuff isn't really put away. It's all hanging out in the spare bedroom that will become the nursery or in her closet. I'll need to wash and clean everything, but I won't get it set up until August, at least. With a toddler and a cat, things will just be beds/tempting toys. I do want to get started with clothes soon, so I know exactly what I have for DD2, but we've got to move the things out of the closet in the future nursery first. I figure I'll start getting moving on things with the nursery in June.

  • Urrrghh... I know I need to be thinking about this but I just haven't. We will be moving 7 months after the new baby is here so current LOs room will stay the exact same and they will be sharing that room for most everything except sleeping. I need to rearrange the guest room to accommodate a crib.  Also buy a crib.  And go through all of the boxes of clothes I have and pull out all the 0-6 stuff.  Luckily that's all pretty well organized so shouldn't be too much trouble.  We won't bust out the swing or mamaroo until after baby is home or a few days before im induced.  Agreed it takes up so much space!

We will have a 4.5 age gap too.  I haven't done a thing to organize yet and we have so much baby stuff in the basement.  I'll probably get started on that in June...  And honestly this time around I'm going with a less is more approach.  With my son being the first I went a little nuts with having every type of swing and chair etc.   I definitely feel more laid back about trying to have everything perfect.
  • We don't even know what room the baby's going to be in yet! lol. We have two rooms for the kids. My daughter's in the bigger room and my son is in the small. If this baby is a boy we'll have to do some room re-arranging. But I figure the baby will be in with us for a bit, and that was part of our "bargain" for being team green. I told H if he didn't want to find out the sex, he would have a honey-do list after the baby is born. :)

  • This is my third, but second girl in 3 years. My first was a boy so last time I didn't really reuse anything. This time around I'll be reusing furniture and clothes. I also have some toys saved but won't break those out until we need them. I plan to start going through the clothes soon so I can figure out what more I'll need for this baby, since I sold some of DD1's baby clothes to a consignment shop. As soon as the nursery is set up and I have a spot to put everything I'll organize it, wash clothes, etc.
  • DS is 13 months so other than clothes and a few larger items, everything is still in use. I don't plan on doing anything until maternity leave.

  • We will start with the nursery as soon as we find out boy/girl at the anatomy scan. DH wants to get it done early while I still have a fair amount of energy to help out.

  • My boys will be 7 years apart. With my son being six already and my sister being pregnant with a boy I gave most of my baby stuff to her (before I found out I was pregnant). Plus, I was moving from Delaware to new mexico so my husband said we could always buy new stuff when the time comes. Now all we have is a crib and pack n play. I feel so unprepared!
  • Once we found out the sex we started getting ourselves into gear.

  • We just moved DS 1 into his new room, so I will probably start getting baby stuff ready soon. I plan on stripping the bouncy seat, rock n play, swing, and crib this weekend and get those things washed. We'll also probably out the crib rail back up so that it's out of the way. Once that's done, I'll start washing blankets.
I consigned all of his baby clothes, bottles, etc, so we will need buy th ose things this summer.
  • As soon as we found out the sex at 18 weeks I pulled out the baby clothes and sorted out all the boy stuff to be sold. That's it though and I have no plans to bring anything else out until a couple of weeks before.
