    Rants/rave/Symptoms?
Rants: just digestion being weird.  I had a really gassy stomach all night and still feel off- the bloat makes me feel even larger than usual
Rave: It's almost the weekend.  I haven't seen my mom in ages (we're really close) and I'm looking forward to spending the weekend with her (so is my daughter).  Yesterday I was at work for almost 12 hours so I'm hoping today will feel short!

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
Getting the basinette, carrier, and other newborn essentials from my mom's this weekend (they've been stored there for a couple of years).  That'll make everything seem more real.

GTKY: Any family traditions you're looking forward to passing on to your kiddo(s)?
This one is very silly but my husband's family celebrates "pinch bum day" on May 1st where we all go to ridiculous lengths to be the first person to pinch each other's bums.  I'm so tired this year that I've told my hubs I might let him win by default (not feeling up to any midnight antics).  It's so ridiculous but the family takes it so seriously that we've had a lot of fun with it over the years (my BIL sends out Pinch Bum Day cards to family members etc.).

Rants/rave/Symptoms? Rant:Crappy sleep...or just not enough in my opinion..Rave: well kind of. Baby has flipped sides, still head down I believe but now the left side of my stomach is pelted with kicks which makes it very uncomfortable since the right side was the one getting all of the kicks before. Least he's constantly moving.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Trying to get our mobile home finally moved by the state soon. I need that nursery!

Questions? I never have any to ask first thing but I'm sure later I'll have one.

GTKY: Any family traditions you're looking forward to passing on to your kiddo(s)? Hmm..I believed in Santa as a kid but my husband didn't but I think maybe we could compromise and have part of the presents come from Santa and the rest from the parents. Santa was such a magical thing for me I was the epitome of an excited kid on Christmas!

    Rants/rave/Symptoms?
    Rant: I miss sleep.
Rave: Done work for the week (I am enjoying this new schedule), & tomorrow H & I are leaving for our babymoon/weekend getaway.
Symptoms: Heartburn. Peeing all the damn time. Some weird cramping/stomach pains...maybe BH?

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
OB appt this morning, & planning out what to pack in the hospital bags.

GTKY: Any family traditions you're looking forward to passing on to your kiddo(s)?
My mom always does "table gifts" at Christmas, & I definitely want to keep that tradition going. Instead of just name cards at each place setting, she'd put a gift bag with a small, personalized gift in it for each person. Nothing extravagant...sometimes a favourite scented candle, a favourite treat, a book, etc...but I always looked forward to them. They're fun!

  • @SMLmom Your "pinch bum day" tradition is so funny! I cannot imagine waking myself up at midnight to win that contest.

Rants/rave/Symptoms? A sore back is my usual rant/symptom lately. My rave is that it's almost the weekend, and H and I go into work late on Thursdays so Thursday mornings are always a little relaxing.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? 34 week appointment today. Trying to get the nursery organized.

GTKY: Any family traditions you're looking forward to passing on to your kiddo(s)? Nothing major that I can think of. My family was never too committed to any specific traditions in terms of holidays or celebrations. My family has always loved getting together for good meals, so I hope I pass on a love of cooking and eating :)

Rants/rave/Symptoms? Rant- I've been having anxiety and panic attacks all week about having to go to NC with my Mom's side of the family all weekend. I keep breaking down and crying feeling like a horrible Mom because I know my stress has got to be stressing the baby out which makes me even more stressed. It's a vicious cycle. I've also been having contractions which terrifies me to be 6 hours from home. Symptoms- My SPD has gotten so bad I can hardly walk at times.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Trying to relax

Questions? Has anyone else taken 6+ hour road trips since the 3rd trimester? What helped and made the ride more comfortable and less stressful?

GTKY: Any family traditions you're looking forward to passing on to your kiddo?  As kids my parents did jelly bean trails from the Easter bunny that led from our bedroom doors to where our easter baskets were. I've always hated Jelly beans, but I loved following the trail and finding my basket.

Rants/rave/Symptoms? Rant: Sooo tired!! Rave: Have my first baby shower after work today, and it's a joint shower with another girl that's due a few weeks after me so I don't have to be the center of attention! Yay!! Symptoms: Crazy nerve pain in my left leg when I walk :(, really getting uncomfortable which is messing with my sleep, heartburn/reflux, lightning crotch like a mofo

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Gestating.

Questions? Any suggestions to get baby to move off of the sciatic nerve?

GTKY: Any family traditions you're looking forward to passing on to your kiddo(s)? My mom always does stockings at Christmas that are the bomb-diggity and I plan on doing this for my family.

Rants/rave/Symptoms? Rant: Sleeping is so hard these days and i always have off and on congestion. I've been sleeping in the lazyboy and have the humidifier by me at night because that's the only way i can get a few hours of continuous sleep. I don't sleep through the night any more i'm always up after 2 or 3 hours. A new thing is my wrists are killing me. I read online that pregnant women sometimes develop carpal tunnel while pregnant. Who knew pregnancy affected so many things.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? This weekend we're going shopping to get some items we need that we didn't get at the shower. We're also taking Maternity pictures on Saturday. I hope the weather is nice.

    Questions? None yet.

GTKY: Any family traditions you're looking forward to passing on to your kiddo(s)? When I was growing up my mom would always buy us McDonald's for dinner on Friday. Probably not the healthiest but it was always a treat. DH and I want to do something similar with a take-out Friday and maybe watch a movie at home. We'll see. But i do like the idea of starting a family tradition.

Rants/rave/Symptoms? Rant- Nothing today! Rave: I had a midwife appointment and ultrasound yesterday to check on the location of my placenta... I got to see the baby (and the gender wasn't spoiled). The baby already has some rolls, which is adorable!  Symptoms- some bloating these past couple of days :(

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Picked up the baby stroller, decided on a car seat, and I'm now considering a doula... just doing some research before making a decision.

Questions? Is anyone else currently working with a doula/worked with a doula previously? What was your experience? Would you recommend it?

GTKY: Any family traditions you're looking forward to passing on to your kiddo?  Driving around the neighbourhood on Christmas Eve with a thermos of hot chocolate, looking at Christmas lights.

    Rants/rave/Symptoms?
    • Rant: My husband went to a concert with a buddy and had a couple of drinks (not drunk by any means), I was in bed when he got home and lemme tell you, my nose is still hypersensitive to smells and it was NOT pleasant. It was a rough night of sleep because of the stupid smell, I couldn't escape it.
    • Rave: The nursery is finally starting to come together! We order two lightsabers to be forged and mounted in the nursery (yea, Star Wars theme), so I'm really excited about that...I mean come on, who wouldn't want a lightsaber?! Huge kudos to my husband for all the work he's done, couldn't have gotten this far without him.
    • Symptoms: Other than the smells thing mentioned above, not a heck of a lot other than lots of movement from the baby. 2am is not the most ideal time for him to practice his kicks and such, but I just remind myself that it means he's doing well.
What are you doing to prepare for baby? Training my temp replacement at the office, which is more exhausting than I realized. Otherwise, continuing prep in the nursery and doing my best to maintain a workout routine (a very moderate/lowkey one). That said, if my body says, "No way, too tired," then I listen and just focus on relaxing.

    Questions?

GTKY: Any family traditions you're looking forward to passing on to your kiddo(s)?

Growing up, whenever we got home after being out and about with my Mom, she would always say "Home again, home again...." and wouldn't let us enter the house until my brother and I replied, "Jiggity-jig." She will still do it sometimes when we're home visiting and we just laugh, roll our eyes, and say it. When I was a teen, you can imagine the groans that came from both of us BUT she never relented. I fully intend to implement that with my son. By the way, I only just realized that after all these years, we weren't saying it right. It should be "Jiggity-jog" according to the Mother Goose rhyme. Eh well.

    Have a lovely Thursday everyone!!
  • @Diesel615 I was 30 weeks and took an 8 hour road trip. My doctor recommended stopping every 2 hours to walk around to help with blood circulation and drink lots of water during the trip to stay hydrated. I did this and didn't have any issues. Hope this helps.

I know it's easier said than done but try to relax. Call your doctor if it will help you get reassurance that it's ok for your to take the trip.

Rants/rave/Symptoms? My dr has confirmed that it is "unlikely" (but not impossible I guess?!?) for the baby to be breaking my pelvis, although that's certainly what it feels like.  I hurt pretty much all the time, and I feel bad, because all I seem to do anymore is complain about my sore lady bits to anyone who will listen.  Which is mostly DH.  On the plus side, DH has been super helpful lately with our toddler (such as doing bath time) which is making it a bit easier for me.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? I went through all of DS's baby clothes last week to see if any can be reused for a girl, and have a huge pile of onesies to wash. I made a list of the things that we need now (vs 6 months from now) so we know what we have left to buy.  And DS's toddler room is almost finished, so we can start transitioning him out and redecorating the nursery.  We bought a new car a couple of months ago (had to order it since the one DH wanted was not on the lot) and it should come in in the next week or so, and then we can install carseats.

GTKY: Any family traditions you're looking forward to passing on to your kiddo(s)? Not really any traditions that I can think of, but DS is getting old enough now that I can do fun activities with, like baking, which I love to do.  I think I'm just really looking forward to when the kids are old enough that I can share my interests with them. We got him a Kitchen Helper ladder last week so he's been really excited to get to be counter-height and help make his own breakfasts.
  • @dennyandlee I had sciatic nerve issues in second tri, it sucks, I'm sorry!  Can you try a prenatal yoga class?  There are some stretches that are supposed to encourage the baby to move, but I don't know the names of anything.  Maybe a google search for yoga moves that will help will bring up a couple suggestions?

@diesel615 Agree with PP, take frequent breaks to walk around, and put the seat back as far as you can so you can stretch your legs while you're sitting.  And lots of water.

Rants/rave/Symptoms? Rants- I'm fat, I'm fat, really, really fat! ugh. Also, My hubbys grandma passed way and when I came home from work, he was very drunk, loving at first then just annoying. He doesn't get drunk very often, but he's a hot mess when he does and I was extremely stressed out all night. I know his grandma died, but I can't handle drunk Hubby
Rave- No work until Monday! I'm so physically drained I can't take it. I miss sleep
Symptoms- BH, tired all the time, baby is moving a lot

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Today, not much, I went to OB in AM, but that was just a quick check up and some bloodwork

  • @dennyandlee I get sciatic nerve pain too this time around (don't remember it from last time at all).  It's really annoying and sometimes the pain reaches from my butt to my toes.  I have no words of advice- just sympathy!

    Rants/rave/Symptoms?
Rant: I can't sleep. Ugh, I know I'm not alone, but it sucks. Between hip pain every time I try to move and baby girl moving like crazy I wake up a lot.  Make for long days and I've been much quicker to snap at the kids I watch (who drive me bonkers normally lol) I'm glad the weather is nice so I can just send them out to play.
Rave: Nothing at the moment :(
Symptoms: Pretty standard, aches, pains, trouble breathing, constipated lol joy!

What are you doing to prepare for baby?
I am buying more clothes than my husband thinks we need. lol we've got most of what we need for the first few months anyway. Except diapers.  We haven't decided if we're doing disposable again or trying g-diapers (probably with disposable liners not cloth).

Questions?I'll probably think of something later.

GTKY: Any family traditions you're looking forward to passing on to your kiddo(s)?
We've been doing all the standard ones...Santa, Easter Bunny, trick or treating and such.  But the one I'm looking forward to and now that my almost 6yr old has a loose tooth is the tooth fairy.  My grandma (who raised me and
passed 2 weeks after I found out I was pregnant with my first) made me a tooth fairy pillow and I'm excited to pass that down to my girls so they can use it too.

  • @mamabird24 you're NOT alone on the sleep thing.  Mine is terrible lately.  I have found some help from the snoogle (which I didn't value much- actually didn't even like much- until this past week).  And I can't even hit coffee hard when I'm overtired!  It's rough... Prenatal yoga seems to help me sleep too.

    Rants/rave/Symptoms?
Rants - just stressed at work....another 7 weeks of work atleast :( randomly contemplate getting the Dr to tell me to just start maternity leave ..    will never do it but getting up at 5:30 is soooo not working abymore when I'm up all night peeing
Rave - my hubby gets home from being out of town tomorrow :) last night alone

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Nothing....need to get my shit together

Questions? Anyone else constantly confused about the acronyms used on here ...  feel like an idiot some days I read all 4 pages (on app) of the US thread and finally the last post (at the time) told me what UO stood for.....I had the idea but holly crow serious idiot moment. Lol

GTKY: Any family traditions you're looking forward to passing on to your kiddo(s)? Hummm no not really, I love that you all have nice tradition or original traditions.....I'll need to start on
  • @Shanna2016, it takes me a bit to figure out the acronyms as well! I often forget so it's a constant reminding game for me anytime I visit the board.  :)
