  • Just follow doctor's orders, make sure you are relaxed, have someone to drive you home and you can get lots of rest. My RE did not want me back in the gym right away, I don't think I really got back until after AF showed, about two weeks later. You are going to be in at least mild pain for a few days, and likely very bloated, and you could still have torsion or OHSS if you jump right back into your normal routine too soon.

  • Me too!   I have  similar questions since my job is kind of physical - lots of lifting, etc.  My husband will have instructions to ask for me tomorrow in case I'm out of it lol.  Good luck!
  • do you know how long it takes to get period? The nurse confused me yesterday. she said I could either go back on pill and do transfer early june ( we are doing genetic testing) or otherwise I can wait for my natural period and do it end of june.. not so sure I can wait till end of june if I don't have to. I just don't get the process though..
  • oh forgot to mention this.. I was kinda pissed at hubby last night.. I told him how the nurse said no intercourse and he still wanted to do it.. he said they prob meant no sperm. I was actually irriated cause I said they say no intercourse for a reason.. he tried arguing that intercourse meant finishing.  annoying;/
  • @runner76 Some women get their period around 5 days after ER, I was almost a full two weeks. You will have to get clarification from your nurse about what's best for you and when you would start BCPs after your ER. Usually you have to wait for AF to show before you start BCPs.

@runner76Tell hubby NO WAY. They tell you no intercourse because your ovaries are swollen and fluid filled  and there could be complications. They don't want you doing anything that would jar your pelvic region not even running. Not to mention it would probably be super painful. I have ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and just had an ultrasound today and I'm so painful just from the ultrasound. Don't risk it.
  • I was kinda hurt that he would even want to chance it.. no I won't do anything trust me! I also have to be careful after retrieval right? My transfer wont be until june. hope he can handle the wait.. On a second note, now im a basket case cause I had to slam on my brakes, some guy almost hit me. totally paranoid my ovary can flip from this .. does that even make sense

  • You guys are making me nervous now...my RE specifically said to have unprotected intercourse the day of trigger shot.  I read the instructions 3 times and asked twice lol, they said it was something to do with getting fresh sperm.  I have to admit, it was a bit uncomfortable on my end, and I'm more sore/bloated today than I was yesterday.  But, I'm glad it made DH happy lol.  And my RE said abstinence now (day after trigger) until beta.  Egg retrieval tomorrow - getting sooo nervous/excited!  Gah!!!   Good luck to you, @runner76
  • Training might not be on you mind afterwards @runner76. I was in quite some pain afterwards. I didn't get my period until I stopped progesterone after a BFN, but that's coz I did a fresh transfer.

No stress about the sex @PrincessSabert, I too didn't get advices against it. They said it could be uncomfortable but wasn't of the table.
It was afterwards though for a few days, can't remember how long it was.

Good luck ladies, I will send you tons of warm happy thoughts. You've got this!

  • No you don't need to wait that long @runner76. Think it's about a week after ER and you're good to go

  • AF came two weeks after ER for me. And you can definitely have sex before ET. Just use you judgement on when your body feels ready and drink lots of Gatorade. My clinic said I'd stay to feel better about 48 hours after ET and it was definitely more like 5-6 days before I felt normal again. Can't imagine having OHSS!!

  • PrincessSabert - the reason they want you to have intercourse a few days before is b/c the optimal sperm sample comes when you've obstained anywhere from 2-5 days. So if you have sex on the trigger date, the sperm will be optimal by the time of retrieval.

runner76 - glad your retrieval went well. 16 is a great number! I think you need to listen to your body in terms of when you can start exercising again. If you are up and feel great in the next few days and your body is used to a pretty consistent work out schedule, then I would imagine you would be fine. But if your body does take a few days longer to feel back to normal, let it rest. You need to remember that you just put your body through a lot and you need to give it time to get back to normal. I would always double check with my RE to make sure but everyone is different and our bodies react differently. The heating pad was my best friend after retrieval.. Drink lots of fluids, (water & gatorade were what my RE told me to overload on)
