UTI/Kidney Infections

Have any STM (or third or fourth..!), or even any FTM, experienced a UTI or kidney infection during pregnancy?

If you had one, did you have typical UTI symptoms or were they different than normal? My friend had one when she was pregnant and apparently had none, or very minor symptoms.

I go to the doctor for second part of genetic testing bloodwork next week, but I don't want to let anything advance, so waiting on a nurse to call back now.

Thanks!

Re: UTI/Kidney Infections

  • I had one last pregnancy and had no symptoms. It cleared up with some antibiotics.

  • TTM, just got my first UTI during pregnancy a few weeks ago. Symptoms were the same for me, the pressure was more urgent than pregnancy urgency, and then of course that tell-tale burning was present, but I've heard some women don't notice the symptoms. FX the nurse calls you back soon and gets you in quick!
  • I had my first UTI ever and had no idea until CVS called and told me my perception was ready. I had just picked up my prenatal a few days before so I thought they made a mistake, but the pharmacist told me my MW had called it in.
  • For those of you who have, do they test for this regularly/only when you report symptoms/it depends on the provider?
  • I had one a few weeks ago and didn't really notice any symptoms. In hindsight I guess my sense of urgency was a bit different than before.

They found out I had one from a routine urine sample. @UponAStar16

  • They tested my urine for an infection after my first visit when I went for bloodwork. They haven't tested it since for an infection although I think some drs might do it routinely.

  • Every time I have an appointment they make me pee in a cup. I don't know if they're testing for other things, but that's how they found the UTI.
  • Ends up it doesn't look like I have one, but they sent the sample off to be sure.  Not sure why so many people at work have one (water supply is suspected???) but I'm glad that I got it checked out just in case.  Everything else looked great, and there was a major plus - got to hear baby's heartbeat! 143 BPM today  :)

  • Oh k cool hopefully that's partly what they check every time I pee in a cup too (I think they test for protein and glucose in your urine too, possibly among other things)
  • Yeah with my dr every time I go I pee in a cup to test for proteins (indicating preeclampsia) and sugars (indicating gestational diabetes).

  • They check mine once a month because I have chronic UTIs with no known cause yet. I don't know what they normally do. FTM here.

  • Ftm. I used to get them all the time pre-pregnancy, and knew the tell tale symptoms like the back of my hand. I got one around 12w, and it was different. I had to question whether to call because I thought it was in my head. My symptoms were frequency/urgency and an ache  in my belly that wouldn't go away. They tested me at my last appt, but said the antibiotics were still present, so they would try again next month to make sure it was gone. Must not be too urgent if they're waiting a month to see if it's still there!
  • Just Fyi, I asked and my doctor did say they check for signs of infection in whatever levels would show from the routine pee cups at appts, but they send to test for cultures at the first appt and then I think only if there are any symptoms after that
