Swimwear

Hey Everyone.  We're in the high 80's this week where I'm at, which means it'll be summer time before you know it.  Have you all thought about maternity swimwear?  I read a bikini is the most flattering but not sure about how I feel with full bump out there for the world to see.

Re: Swimwear

  • I'm dreading this with everything I have, not because of the bump but because I seem to be expanding everywhere. I'm not amused. I have seen some cute one pieces at Motherhood Maternity. Wear whatever you are comfortable with and don't worry about the rest. If you wanna flaunt that bump in a 2 piece, go for it.

  • @MRSCORKER same for me. I've gained in my back and my butt already too.  I'm not a bikini person normally so I'm not totally cool with the idea.  I'm probably going to try stuff on and see what looks somewhat flattering.   No matter what I'm sure I'll feel like a beached whale.

I did shorts and a stretchy tank last time (both is black) for the pool. I mean real clothes, not swimwear. I was broke and felt ugly in everything. But I wasn't going to the beach or anywhere like that.

I also outgrew maternity clothes...twice...so I'm always hesitant to spend money on things for just a few wears.

  • Same here... gaining EVERYWHERE. I feel like I'm equally gaining back fat at the same rate as my bump. As far as a bathing suit goes, I'll go with whatever makes me feel best though.

  • I actually have a maternity swimsuit from a couple years back from H&M... I wasn't pregnant, just plus sized, and it worked for me. It still works. I love it. It's a one piece and its a black halter.

  • @coffee89 yeah I'm hoping I can find something cheap at target or Walmart don't wanna waste a lot of money.  I lost weight last year so I may have luck with some suits from when I was heavier.  We go to our amusement park's water park and the beaches in SC a lot so I'll be in a suit more than I'd like this summer

@Julia70286 the back fat gain is the worst for me.  I hate the way it looks.  Maybe I can get my butt to the gym to get it under control but I can't stand to look at it in the mirror let alone in a suit

@kmolleltz H&M has really cute suits online.  I might run by and see if they have any maternity in stock in store. I hate their return policy on online orders (unless it's changed recently, they wouldn't let me exchange for a size up on something I bought online when they carried the same item in store last time)
  • aw man, i was hoping I would just continue wearing my bikinis.  lol.  that way, i don't even have to worry about whether I have a belly or not.  It's the one time I can be like "yup, I got a big belly!"
  • @annabenanna that's the one nice thing no one expects the belly to be flat

My thoughts exactly! With so much to spend money on, this just isn't one of them for me. If it gets to the point where my boobs no longer fit in my bikini we will just go to the nude beach. Slightly farther away but they allow dogs, too, so double win

  • I got a couple of tankini tops at Target a couple of weeks ago. Bought a size up hoping they will get me through most of the summer.  This way I don't have to flaunt the bump so much but I can still tan my stomach and back if I want.  Plus they were on sale so that always helps  :)

  • motherhood maternity has an extra 30% off when you order online. I just order a tankini top for 18 bucks.

  • I bought a maternity swimsuit at Target online in December/January. I think I got it for $16 bucks since it was winter. It's a blurry chevron print one piece. I can't be showing the belly. I've got stretch marks all the way above my belly button from my last two kids.
  • Ugh...I'm dreading this. I've been a tankini girl since my first baby. Normally, I would just wear one that I have because I'll probably just be in my backyard and who cares if half my belly is hanging out. But, we're going on vacation in June so I feel obligated to find something more flattering to go in public with. I bought a tankini from Motherhood but it was a top and bottom sold together deal and the top is tight on my fat back and the bottoms are way too big so that's out. I've literally looked everywhere and can't find anything that I really like. The last thing I want to do anyway when I'm pregnant is wrap myself in spandex and go flaunt myself on the beach.

  • I am a one-piece person, so I'll probably stick with that. I actually liked feeling a little more belly support in a one-piece suit last time around, and the fact I could keep my boobs a little more under control. Zulily has maternity swimwear up today.
  • Ugh.. also dreading this but I know I'll want to be in the pool all summer for comfort, ha!

I bought two pairs of board shorts to wear (non maternity) because my butt and thighs are so disgusting right now. I may wear a bikini top with them until my belly gets freaky looking (ha) and then I'll prob just wear a one piece with the shorts.

  • I just plan on wearing a bikini.. I was going to buy a ranking at first but my husbands hates them so bikini it is!
  • Just planning on wearing bikinis, unless I can find a cute one piece.  Maybe Target would have some? They have everything!  I'm thinking I might need some new tops, my boobs will be busting out of some of the tops I already have, yikes!

    It's a boy!

  • I bought a really cute one at target last year because I'm plus size, I'm hoping it'll still work this year.
  • Ugh... I just got back from Maui and I'm definitely thinking I need to trade up for some maternity swimwear. We start swim lessons for DS in a week and I feel like I shouldn't be wearing a bikini, but maybe something more modest. I hate swimsuit shopping... but it looks like I may be doing that this weekend. Hopefully I can just knock it out at Target.

I love the idea of rocking a bikini with a bump, but with this summer being likely a very active one with my toddler I feel like a 1 piece or tankini may be better.

  • I'm planning to just buy up a size (or two) in a cheapy tankini style. I already have a couple cute swim cover ups that are nice and flowy, so those should still work fine. I've never felt very comfortable in a swimsuit, so I usually do the old "take off the cover up right by the pool and slide in while no one's looking" thing.

  • Bikini with a cute cover up tank or tee. Bikini for comfort (you wrestled off a wet one piece while pregnant yet? No thanks!), and cover up because I am pasty white and burn within 10 minutes of being exposed to sunlight, not because of the bump. :)
  • I purchased a tankini a few weeks back off of Amazon! I paid 12.00 for it! Super cute navy blue with white polka dots! I can't wait to wear it! I am expecting my fifth so no bikinis for this old gal!
  • @socks2819 I completely agree :)
I'm excited to wear a swimsuit with this bump. Plus, I think one pieces are totally in right now and look adorable with all pregnant bellies!

  • My lower body has just ballooned up. The thought of showing my legs let alone anything else is really unappealing. I'm officially getting off my rump TODAY.

  • Yeah probably gonna go swimming in a tank top and shorts. already plus sized so it works.

This is an excellent point, I hadn't thought of that! I guess I'll try to find a full coverage tankini. Gah. In some ways being super pregnant in the dead of winter last time was a little easier to dress for!

@Kmalls I really liked being very pregnant in the winter.  I run so hot during pregnancy. I did get a really nice maternity puffer jacket but I rarely used it. I was often comfortable in some light layers. I'm definitely happy I won't be too far along in this pregnancy in the summer.

  • I totally wear my bikinis when I preggo, it's the only time I don't feel like my stomach isn't flat enough. I also only wear one while we are in our boat and it's just friends and family around who have all seen their wives bare pregnant bellies already so it's just not a big deal in our group.
But if we actually had beaches here I would probably wear a tankini just so I didn't burn my bump.

  • I just ordered this one-piece from Amazon:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00M92O9QI/ref=cts_ap_2_fbt?pi=SL110&dpPl=1&dpID=41m+VaEQJPL&th=1&psc=1

It's not technically maternity, but I just ordered a size up and it seems pretty generous in the tummy.

  • I bought a cute 2 piece (tankini) from Thyme.  I figured I could wear it after pregnancy too since it doesn't fit like a maternity swimsuit, but it supposedly has stretch abilities in the tummy department.
