Mini Freak Out and Question

Potential TW (I really really hope not, though), and possibly a TMI, but I need to check and see if this is normal before I freak out too much.

I just went pee, and noticed a very light light pink tint on the toilet paper.  I'm currently 11w4d and I'm scheduled for an u/s on Monday.  This is the first time I've noticed anything pink, red, or brown, so I'm freaking out a little bit.  I'm not having any cramps or pains, aside from some round ligament pain (I'm assuming) I've been having lately.  DH and I had sex on Saturday, but I would think that was long ago enough that it wasn't the cause.  Should I be freaking out?  Do I call my OB?  She's the type who is very realist and down-to-earth and will definitely call me out for being ridiculous, so I just wanted to make sure I'm not being crazy before I call.  Has anyone else had this happen???

It's probably nothing, but I'd call.

ETA - try not to freak out! A tiny bit of blood happens to lots of women during pregnancy, but best to be cautious.

  • I've had minor spotting like you've described with both of pregnancies. Even though it's scary, I would not be concerned. It often happened to me after over exertion. I hope everything is ok. I think its going to be.
  • Calling can never hurt, they're working for you after all! But there's a lot more blood flow going on down there, so I probably wouldn't be concerned.

  • I would call. I had this happen to me at 10 weeks and it didn't turn out well. More than likely, it's no big deal, but I'd try to go in just for my personal piece of mind! I wouldn't want to wait til Monday to know that things were okay,
  • We can all say "don't freak out" and it's good advice, but everyone freaks out when they see any amount of blood during pregnancy. It's just natural to be concerned. However, if you search TB (or even this board) for "spotting during the first tri" you'll see just how common it is.

That being said, I personally have and will continue to call my OB any time I see blood- no matter how minimal. They might bump up your u/s so that you have peace of mind. That's what they did when I had two days of spotting around 6 weeks.

  • I've been spotting for weeks and even though my OB told me to expect it because of a cervical polyp, it's still terrifying. When in doubt, give them a call. They really do understand.
Hoping everything is great for you!

  • Update and possible TW again: I called and spoke to one of the nurses, and she told me to monitor and call them if it gets more red, heavier, or if I notice sharp pains on one side.  I still haven't had my first u/s, so ectopic isn't ruled out yet, although I did have a pelvic exam and she manually checked the size of my uterus and didn't seem to find anything abnormal, so fingers crossed this isn't anything serious!  She also said it can be caused by intercourse, although it has been a few days since that.  Thanks to everyone who chimed in!  I'm feeling a bit better about it now and will continue to keep an eye on it!

  • Like PPs said, I feel like you should always call when you see blood. It's most likely nothing, but it's always good to call for that reassurance.

I've been spotting for 5 weeks, so I am quite familiar with that anxiety. So far, everything still looks good for my little bean, but it's totally nerve-wracking to see any amount of blood.

  • Thanks for the update! Let us know if anything else happens.
  • Make sure you dont lift anything remotely heavy and rest as much as possible. Spotting can be caused by so many things! Hang in there and lots of happy thoughts your way!
  • Thanks for all the positivity, ladies!  I love being able to come to this board to ask questions!  :)

  • I second what @LindsayLuLu27 said. In general, I think PG women can do just about anything non-PG women can do, but when it comes to spotting, I've heard lots of stories IRL of how it was overexertion that caused spotting. In such cases, your baby isn't necessarily in danger, but you don't want to have to freak out over the blood, so it might be best to take it easy until your u/s.

The time I bled/spotted, I had wrestled my 3 yo for about half and hour. Same thing happened to my little sister- she spotted three times in PG #1 and it was all related to big physical outlays.

  • I'm so glad to hear that other people have had constant spotting, too. I've had light orange/beige/light brown spotting for 4 weeks straight now. My NP has examined me 3 or 4 times now, and she's never been able to determine the cause. No SCH, I don't overexert, exercise hard, lift heavy things, and we haven't even had sex in about 3 weeks. And yet the spotting continues. My bean is still growing on schedule, so nothing we can do. They have given me the same advice, "it's not worrisome, but if it turns red, gets heavier, etc, then call them."

Spotting sucks. FX it resolves quickly for you and turns out to be nothing!

  • @MissAmeliaPond  That's comforting to know, thanks!  I'm just most worried because I haven't been tested for anything beyond peeing in a cup and a pelvic exam.  My 1st u/s is Monday and it can't come fast enough!

  • I'm sure baby is just fine. I bled red twice a week ago and went in for an ultra sound and she said it was just fine. As long as it doesn't get worse and continue through let the day I would not worry (so easy to say and hard to do). If you would feel better go in early and call the doctor as much as you need, that's what they are there for! I felt so silly for calling but they were helpful. Just don't Google! Lol

Yeah, that was the first thing my husband said to me too.  It was too late, haha.
