Ibuprofen scare!

I am 5weeks pregnant and had a horrible headache today and accidentally took 2 ibuprofen instead of tylenol. I grabbed the wrong bottle and am so upset with myself!  I am completely freaking out and very worried. Has anyone else had this happen and know if everything will be okay? I am so worried about miscarriages as I just went through one on February. Thanks!

Re: Ibuprofen scare!

  • Hi @candy8835 I don't really have any advice or experience on this but I would say there is nothing you can do now other than toss the Advil so it can't happen again. If it makes you feel any better I had a lot of alcohol to drink the week I found out I was preggers and was feeling some similar guilt.

  • If you are worried call your doctor. I dont have any real advice but know how you feel! I took ibuprofen the morning I got my bfp...sliced my finger on a mandolin and I had that at work when it started throbbing. Totally didn't even think about it until after I took it.

  • Don't freak out.  You don't want to take it again because of the warnings, but I'm confident the warnings are for regular or continued use, not a one time use.  Also, read this... • I read that it's if you take it after week 30 of pregnancy, but because it can be hard to remember which week you're in, to just avoid it. I'm sure you're fine.

I was on vacation and totally boozing it up and taking my usual low-dose Xanax before bed to help me sleep (I have anxiety) when I started maybe suspecting I was pregnant. I came back home and took a test: positive!

I had a freak out because I was afraid I hurt baby, but I've been doing a lot of reading that alleviated my fears, and my doctor was really supportive. I stopped doing those things immediately and now I'm just more careful. But I'm not going to let it eat me up, I'm only human, afterall. I didn't think I would have a chance to be pregnant, so this was a wonderful surprise. Just relaxing and trying to keep positive.
  • A one time thing won't hurt. I downed a hige strawberry daiquiri before I knew I was pregnant lol
  • I've used it but not daily. It's third tri that's the big no-no, so I really wouldn't sweat it today. If Tylenol generally works for you, just put it in the cabinet / purse for next time.

You can also read about medication research via the mommy meds app from the Infant Risk Center; the app quickly shows you info relating trimesters and baby's age (regarding lactation).
