Abnormal pap

hey there,
im not sure if I've asked you guys or not.. Looking for anyone with a similar experience. Found out I have high grade cervical changes (cin2/3) in the beginning of my pregnancy. Dr's want to take a wait and see approach which is stressing me out!!! Any shared experience?? Thanks!!!

Re: Abnormal pap

  • I had an abnormal pap and biopsy and they said there was mild cell changes and they would do a pap in six months. I think the Dr. Would pursue treatment if they thought it was necessary at this point. Chances are that the changes could go away on their own but even if they don't there are a bunch of different treatments that are super effective in treating. Even in the worse case scenario (cervical cancer) usually takes many many years to develop which is why they can wait until after you have the baby to take the next step. I would confirm why they want to wait at your next appointment but I bet they would say the risk of an invasive procedure to your pregnancy outweighs the benefit of it. I would try not to worry too much.

  • Thanks @heatherperkins14
thats exactly what the dr said in about 100 diff ways bc it wasn't sinking in!
I had a high grade pap w my gyno followed up w colpo and biopsy. Dr was surprised that it came back high grade bc the cervix looked ok.. But sure enough, it came back CIN 2/3. He sent me to gyn/oncologist who did a colpo a few wks later and there was no longer an abnormality. He had a few possible explanations 1) gyno could've gotten it all w biospy if it was small enough 2) sometimes preg hormones are misinterpreted on slides for rapid cell changes (high grade)
however, without a cone biopsy he couldn't be sure there wasn't more beyond the surface of the cervix. This is what terrifies me but like you said, he explained that would be unlikely and the risks would outweigh the benefits. At this point, I'm seeking a second opinion just to put my mind at ease.
    Thanks again for your response!
  • No problem! I hope when you get your second opinion you can rest assured.  :)
  • My early pregnancy pap came back positive for Chlamydia you can understand I was mortified and embarrassed. I have been married for 3 years and had multiple Pap smears since. I demanded another test a week later and my doctor agreed it came back negative. It's completely shocked the staff at my doctors office.
  • @kaithclark that's so strange! So was it a mistake?? Or did it go away??
  • Chlamydia doesn't go away without treatment. It was likely a lab error or specimen mix-up.
