Moms of multiples weekly check in: week of 4/18

Hello fellow moms of multiples!

I will start this thread every Sunday or Monday with some discussion questions for everyone to answer when they have time. I would love for this thread to be dynamic and for people to continue posting throughout the week. So just because you've posted once and have answered all of the questions, doesn't mean you shouldn't post again with a question or anything else you're thinking about!

Here are our discussion questions for this week:

1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

12 weeks and expecting di di twins

2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

I'm excited about our NT scan coming up on Thursday. We also plan to do free fetal DNA testing at that time.

3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

I am doing pretty well! Nausea continues to improve, but I've still been feeling pretty tired. I am feeling great about making it to 12 weeks and am a lot less anxious about pregnancy loss now.

I loved reading about everyone's nursery plans! We made some good progress this week clearing out the room we plan to use as a nursery. I moved everything into other parts of the house, so now we just have to sell a few pieces of furniture.

4. Question of the week: What are your plans for finding out the genders of your babies and how do you plan to reveal them?

We hope to find out genders with the free fetal Dna testing, which should come back at about 14 weeks. But if the results are unclear we will wait until the anatomy scan at 18-20 weeks. We don't plan to do an elective gender scan.

We have no plans for a gender reveal party but I'm curious to hear about everyone else's plans.

Re: Moms of multiples weekly check in: week of 4/18

  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

14 weeks 4 days expecting di di twins

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

We had our NT scan last week which looked fine. Now I am just waiting for my finger prick blood test results to come in which should be today or tomorrow (sorry I can't remember what the official name of that test is!)

After that, I will officially announce to my direct reports at work which I am looking forward to so that I don't have to continue hiding this bump!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

Zero progress on clearing out space, decorating a nursery, or anything of the sort. Don't ask me what we are waiting for. Someone to do it for us?? ;-)

    4. Question of the week: What are your plans for finding out the genders of your babies and how do you plan to reveal them?

We won't find out the sexes until the typical 18-20 week appointment, which puts us right around Memorial Day weekend. We are definitely doing a gender reveal party-cookout type of thing at our house, so maybe we will just plan it during the holiday weekend. I am happy that it falls during a time of year where we can be outside! People would make their prediction when they arrived at the party and either write it on a chalkboard or wear it with a pin or something. And I am still loving the idea of a giant box of pink and/or blue balloons :)

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

Still impatiently waiting for anatomy scan 5/9.

I do have an appt this week and am not sure if he'll do the doppler or a quick ultrasound.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

I've been feeling the babies since week 12 but this week and last not so much.   Hubby reminded me I did this with my first too.

I'm just so ready to see my babies again,  and I hope and pray that they are both healthy.

    4. Question of the week: What are your plans for finding out the genders of your babies and how do you plan to reveal them?

I'm terrible at keeping anything pregnancy related a secret.   I'll probably share via social media when we find out at the anatomy scan.

  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

    13w2d, di di twins

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

Elective sex scan at 15 weeks

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

guys, I need help. This is more a "WWYD" question, but- the doctor we were going to see tomorrow won't see us because she says we need to see a specialist. The place she said we need to be seen is 30 min away and technically in a different state. We have an appointment with our old doctor that we don't like on Wednesday and are going to keep that appointment. I just want to be monitored more and seen more. If this doctor is still going to treat me like a singleton pregnancy, would you go to the hospital OBGYN in the other state for your regular OB? I have never been pregnant before, let alone with twins. I truly don't know the significance or importance of being monitored more or seeing someone else. This is beginning to be so stressful and frustrating. The hospital we would deliver at is right down the road from us if we stayed with this OB, if we move to the one in GA, we would need to deliver 30 min away and I hate the thought of that. Advice??

    4. Question of the week: What are your plans for finding out the genders of your babies and how do you plan to reveal them?

We have an elective scan on the 30th at 15 weeks to find out. Our moms will be there, but no gender reveal party.

  • @sjo&thetwins my dr is monitoring me the same as during my singleton pregnancy, up until 24-28 wks, when I start going more often. I actually am thankful he isn't stressing me out any extra now, and honestly don't think there is much difference between my two pregnancies so far. I wouldn't stress too much about extra monitoring right now, but talk to your dr about their plan/schedule for later on. Hope that helps a little!

    1. How far along, how many babies: 15w6d, di di twins

    2. Next milestone: Anatomy scan on 5/4! I really can't wait to get a good look at these babies and find out more about who's hanging out in there.

    3. Rants/Raves: My H is out of the country for the rest of the month, so I am dealing with major Houston storms and wrangling a 1-yr-old by myself for a while. Exhausting!

    4. Plans for finding out and announcing sexes: Hopefully we'll find out at our anatomy scan in a couple weeks. Haven't thought about how to share that news yet, but we'll probably just post something to social media or tell people as they ask.
  • @sjo&thetwins  My OB & hospital is over an hour away.  That was my choice both for my first pregnancy and this one.  We decided to stay with the group that succeeded in getting us pregnant.  It worked out for our first pregnancy (a singleton) which started as a scheduled induction at 39 weeks due to gestational diabetes.  I wound up with a C-section, but I think that would have happened anywhere.

We live in a very rural area, and the closest NICU units are at least 50 minutes away, so we're staying with the same group this time since I don't think the 20-30 minutes makes a difference.  The hospital we deliver at has a higher level NICU anyway.

As far as monitoring, the doctors said I'd be on the same schedule as a singleton until about 22 weeks. Then, I'll have more frequent monitoring, but nothing that sounds much different than my first pregnancy.

With all of that said, that's just my experience, and it works for our situation.  Do you know anyone that has delivered at the hospital across the state line?  I'd seek their opinions and experiences.  It might be worth it, but either way, I'd trust your gut.

We have an elective scan on the 30th at 15 weeks to find out. Our moms will be there, but no gender reveal party.

I would personally deliver at a hospital with a level III NICU.  I would also expect more monitoring given that you did IVF and that you are having twins.  The fact that your current OB isn't entertaining that, along with other concerns you have mentioned, would make me consider an alternative OB/MFM.  With my singleton I had extra monitoring because of IVF.  I can't imagine not having that carrying two babies.

  • Thanks y'all. I trust the hospital I would be delivering at - my grandmother is a neonatal nurse there as well. So it's just a matter of a good OB in my opinion, at this point. I'm going to see a different one next Tuesday - someone finally was able to get me in and see if I like him. If no dice with him, we are probably going to look into the hospital across the state line.

@sjo&thetwins  I'm sorry you're dealing with such a stressful decision. Personally, I feel like being comfortable with your OB is the most important thing. Even if technically the amount of monitoring they are doing is appropriate, if you're feeling ignored or not well cared for then your feelings are important. I'm glad you got in with someone else and hope that will work out. If not, I don't think a 30 minute drive (even if it's across state lines) is a deal breaker. Good luck.
  • I saw a thread about showing but am curious among my fellow twin mamas... How many of you are showing? I definitely have a small bump plus a ton of bloating. It's getting really hard to hide. I plan on announcing at work and Facebook after the free fetal Dna testing comes back. We are already telling close friends and family. Just curious if others are showing, in maternity clothes, etc.
  • @ChefWalker my tummy is huge. I look 6 months pregnant with 1 baby, which I guess COULD seem legit since I am a little over 3 months with two. ;)

if im not in dresses or sweat pants, I'm in maternity clothes.
  • @chefwalker Yes I am showing also! I am a FTM and today I am wearing maternity dress pants at work for the first time. The pants are awesome, you really can't tell. Its finding a flowy shirt to go with the pants that is the hard part! Our 1st tri screen results came back great today so we are telling folks at work today. Thank goodness I won't have to hide anymore!

  • Also showing.  I've had a rock-hard bump for a few weeks now (second pregnancy).  I'm still smaller than what I was with DD though.

  • @ChefWalker STM here and went through IVF both times.  I have no shame and will freely admit I pulled out the maternity clothes around 7-8 weeks.  I didn't necessarily need them that early, but they sure are comfy.  :)

I'm definitely showing, and in my uneducated opinion I think I look like I'm more like 20 weeks instead of 15 weeks along!

  • Yeah, I've been in maternity clothes since 12-13 weeks. My bump is definitely all bump, round and firm. Second time mom.
  • FTM and definitely showing. Round and firm at 13 and a half weeks. Popped about a week ago. I look about 4.5 to 5 months in!

@sjo&thetwins   I hope your appt Tuesday goes well!! I definitely think having a good relationship with your OB is so important! Follow your mom gut ;)

I am also showing!! Maxi dresses, Yoga pants and maternity clothes are my BFF.  Work knows and our good friends know- so I'm embracing the bump we have worked so hard for :)

    1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

    16w5d, di di twins

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

20 week anatomy scan.  Everytime I see the baby it feels so great.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

We went to a high risk OB yesterday to make sure everything still looks good.  & we found one the sex.  We have one of each- so excited!!

    4. Question of the week: What are your plans for finding out the genders of your babies and how do you plan to reveal them?

I made baby A & B onesies in pink and blue :) we will post a picture on social media at the end of the month.

  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?

    Genders genders genders!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

We funally announced on facebook. I don't know if anyone is ever rude when they find out someone is expecting, but the support and kindness we got just made my heart overflow. Especially since it's been overwhelming trying to maintain being pregnant and still working as hard as i do and not getting the kind of credit i expect. I guess when you've married your high school sweetheart and didnt have kids for 5 years people get excited lol. I expected a lot more "finally"s and "its about time"s.

    4. Question of the week: What are your plans for finding out the genders of your babies and how do you plan to reveal them?

Find out ASAP and shout it from the freaking mountaintops! DH keeps accidentally calling them my "my daughters." Insecretly love it.
