TW:potential loss.

Yesterday I had some brown spotting. I did a lot of research and saw that brown spotting isn't "normal" but pretty common in first trimesters. Today, when I woke up, it wasn't brown spotting anymore... I was bleeding. I tried calling my doctor but they are unavailable for the next hour at least. I wish someone would tell me that I'm overreacting, but I'm fairly certain I am having a mc. This is my first pregnancy and I am so lost and scared right now... DH is at work and unable to take a call.

  • I can't even imagine how difficult this is. Is there really no way you can send in some kind of message to your husband? I know work is important, but this is an emergency and you really need him right now. Wishing you all the best.

  • Unfortunately work for him is an emergency. Doctor said that there is a 75% chance it's a mmc. They will run some tests Monday morning to determine for sure. Until then I'm supposed to stay in bed all weekend sand get as much rest as possible. I really appreciate all of yalls support.
  • So sorry you're going through this. Fx you get good news on Monday.

  • I'm so sorry, limbo is a terrible place to be. Take care of yourself over the weekend, I hope things turn out okay. FWIW I've had bright red bleeding both pregnancies, once it was a miscarriage and this time around it was an SCH. It's never ideal, but it's not always the worst case scenario either. FX for you.

  • I'm sorry you are in limbo and not able to get an answer until Monday. When I had bleeding on a Friday night, I went Saturday morning to a diagnostic imaging center-not connected to my OB- and had an u/s on my own. I just didn't want to be wondering all weekend. Maybe that's an option? It was like $70 so not prohibitively expensive.

  • I'm very sorry this is happening to you. Here is some important info that may or may not make you feel better. I hope it does though :-/

First time pregnancy's have a higher risk of ending in miscarriage. Those same people go on to have completely healthy pregnancy's in the future though.

In the first trimester if you are miscarrying there isn't anything that they can do. So when it happened to me I found solace in knowing that my body could take care of it on its own and that more than likely this was something I could suffer with on my own without others being involved.

I can't tell you whether you are or aren't. I would believe though if you are bleeding and cramping though that it doesn't look good. Just pray and know that things happen for a reason and even though it's heart breaking things will go on and hopefully you can try again :(

  • Sorry you are going through this. FX everything turns out alright.

  • I'm so sorry you are going through this, and that you are doing it with your H at work.  Being in limbo really sucks.  I did bleed a decent amount with my second daughter because of placenta previa.  But I also bled during another pregnancy when I was miscarrying.  FX everything is okay.

  • I'm even more confused and concerned now. The bleeding stopped but naturally I still went to the doctor. They did an US and found the sak but there was no fetus inside at all... How does a fetus just disappear? 3 weeks ago I saw my baby on an US and there was even a distinct flicker that the doctor told us was the heartbeat. I did bleed, but not that much and no blood clots or tissue. The doctor yesterday told me that my baby never even formed and suggested a D&C. I KNOW my baby formed because I saw her and her heartbeat. I'm having trouble coming to terms with this....

@DaniBanani16 sometimes you can kind of "absorb" it. (Someone else feel free to explain or tell me if I'm wrong, I've never had this happen myself). So sorry for your loss.
  • @DaniBanani16

This is a hard topic. I wish I could make you feel better.
Usually your midwife/OB has access to some type of counseling for loss. You could call and ask for the information. Maybe they can help?

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I have no idea how this could have happened.

  • I believe @whaat is correct. If fetal development is stopped (usually due to a chromosomal abnormality), your body will essentially absorb the tissue. This is the same thing that happens in the case of a vanishing twin. If it would make you feel better, you can request to have a follow up ultrasound in a week or so to check that there is no heart beat before scheduling a D&C. There's generally also nothing wrong with waiting a week or two, to see if your body recognizes the loss and you miscarry spontaneously.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I found the miscarriage/loss boards a great comfort after my mc in December, and the TTCAL board is wonderful if/when you feel ready to try again. Please take care of yourself and allow yourself time to grieve.

  • @DaniBanani16  Make sure you know all your options before you agree to a D&C

  • I'm sorry you're going through this. With my first pregnancy, I was pregnant with twins and the exact same thing happened. First appointment saw them both with flickering heartbeats and when I went back, one was simply gone. It was absolutely crushing and I was mystified but like others said, I was told that at this early stage some times your body will absorb the loss. I would definitely recommend a follow-up appointment or second opinion for peace of mind. Again, I'm so very sorry and you're in my thoughts.

  • TW...

so sorry for your loss. Two years ago when i miscarried, I had begun bleeding after spotting that morning. When I went to the dr for an u/s the next day, I had stopped bleeding but when they did the u/s only the sac was visible. I had had two other u/s both of which we saw a baby with a flickering heartbeat. I had been measuring behind so knew there was the potential for loss. I chose to do cytotec vs having a d&c...and when i finally passed everything I did see something that I'm pretty sure was the baby. I never confirmed with the dr. But it did give me closure as we buried that something  in our flower garden with a little plaque that reads "love blooms here." So most likely you have a lot more of your lining to pass, which is where the baby may be too...so don't feel like you were just seeing something initially. it is very possible to see the baby and then during a mc not see it.

again, so sorry...take your time to grieve...and know you aren't alone!

  • Hello ladies. Update, miscarriage confirmed. The doctor gave me cytotec which didn't work for me at all. I'm working on setting up a D & C for this week.

This community has been wonderful and I wish you all healthy and happy pregnancies and babies.
