Pregnant and have a baby under 1

Hey girls, so I just found out yesterday that I'm 5 weeks pregnant DD Dec 17th with baby #2 and I'm kind of freaking out. My LO will be 9 months on the 28th.. I wanted our kids to be close in age, just not this close. My husband is beyond excited but I'm more on the scared level. Can anyone else relate, or has anyone had kids back to back? I'm in need of reassurance, the fatigue has already kicked in and I have a baby to chase around still

Re: Pregnant and have a baby under 1

  • Hi, I haven't intro'd yet, been lurking. But I was in your shoes, my girls are 16 months apart and this baby is 20 months behind my second. It was tough to find energy to play with my oldest, take care of the house, dinner, all with first trimester exhaustion and nausea. We moved and I was still nursing my first, and teaching. An afternoon snack helped a little but I did a lot of sitting and laying while playing with her. Also knowing that it will pass soon helps. You will get through this... And in a few years, your kids will play together! (At least that's what I'm still telling myself!)
  • Loading the player...
  • Oh and I took liquid B vitamins as soon as I got home every day. They give a lot of energy and help lower nausea. Being outside in fresh air made things easier too!
  • My first LO is 8months and I'm 7 weeks along with #2.  I'm so terribly excited that they are going to be this close.

  • You'll get through it! My oldest daughter was only 8 months old when I found out I was pregnant with my second. They're 17 months apart (to the day). It was definitely tough being pregnant with a baby to take care of but it's also a great distraction and seemed to make the pregnancy go faster. The first 6 months of my second daughter's life were a blur because I essentially had two babies but it was so worth it. My girls are now 2 and 3 1/2 and are best friends. Giving them a sibling so close in age was the best gift I could've ever given them. I'm a little worried that this next one will feel a little left out since s/he will be almost 3 years younger!

  • Glad to know someone was able to do it. We finished BFing 3 months ago so that should save a little energy lol. You're a saint for juggling all of that. I was actually curious about the B12, a friend had recommended them also, I just wasn't sure if they were safe in the 1st tri.

my guy just turned 1 and is a force to be reckoned with. DH is going to have to take on a lot through the pregnancy - he really wants a second so I told him he'd need to be prepared to be a single parent while I'm pregnant (I got really sick last time). Then I just assume these next 3 or so years are going to be chaotic. I'm nervous about it though. But the way I figure... having a baby/toddler is sleepless chaos a lot of the time. I expect 2 to be way more so... but then... THEN... they will both be older and things will get easier (we want 2 and then are done). I'm primary breadwinner so while they are in baby phase, my career is essentially barely hanging on by a thread. Get them done, get them to 1 - is what I told my boss when she asked when I was coming back fulltime

Ditto! DH and I knew we wanted to go for one more and I wasn't against them being close. I after all am a SAHM and have two families that I babysit for a few days a week. It's pretty safe to say I'm the crazy kid lady. Children have always been my life and I'm excited to have my last babies so close together. I think DD1 will enjoy having someone else to occupy her little sister.

  • I am 7 weeks ish pregnant with #2 and DS is only 9.5 months! I am excited for the age closeness but am also a little apprehensive about how crazy it will be! Taking a LOT of stuff off my plate in preparation for that.
  • My kids are 18 months and 4 days apart. It was tough at first, but I absolutely love it! They are so close, play together so well and just get along well. Wouldn't trade it for the world!

  • I'm 6 weeks 5 days, my baby is 10 months old. I'm terrified.
  • Hi Moms. Add me to the ranks. I have a 9 month old, and just found out I'm 4 weeks along.  Excited and scared, but ultimately looking forward to the bond the two of them will likely form.
