BM supply supplements

I searched but couldn't find anything on this. Hope some of you mama's can help!
With DD1 I really struggled with supply issues that I gave up at the 3 week mark because I was only pumping an oz of BM from both boobs combined and it just wasn't worth the work of pumping and still having to give formula for more than half of a feed.
I have done some researching and began fenugreek supplements 4 days ago and just found MotherLove more milk plus today. Does anyone have experience with these? Can you share you're story with them. How long did it take to see an increase? TIA!

Re: BM supply supplements

  • I don't have experience with supplements but I know some foods can be eaten to increase supply also. For example oatmeal! There's a lot of recipes for lactation cookies. I like to incorporate oats in shakes or muffins for snacks. You might already know this but i just thought I'd mention it in case you're interested on top of your supplements!

  • Definitely have looked into the lactation cookies, there are so many recipes it's hard to know which one is best! I will have to start eating more oatmeal it looks like!
  • I did fenugreek with DD1 and it did ok.  I added it with a few lactation cookies and a bit longer pumping sessions.  This is when DD was 9 months and we struggled with my supply.  I also cit caffeine and started drinking more water.  I am not sure what worked the best but the fenugreek made my milk smell like maple syrup.

I made some lactation cookies on a whim to have an excuse to binge eat cookies, and I have definitely noticed an effect. This is the recipe I used

I left out the wheat germ cause I didn't have any and the eggs cause my body doesn't like eggs. I added in cashews cause I love nuts and didn't have any walnuts.

  • My supply dropped around 6 weeks and I had luck with fenugreek, power pumping, drinking tons of water, mothers milk tea, eating oatmeal every morning for breakfast and in other foods, and eating more calories than I thought I should...that's a big one. You have to give your body enough calories to make the milk. Also, most insurance companies cover visits to a lactation consultant and she can give you more tips.
  • Thanks everyone!
  • I used a combination of fenugreek and blessed thistle to increase my supply with DD1. I took the dose as directed on the bottle and it really helped. Fenugreek can make you have a sweet (maple syrup like) odour and blessed thistle will make you hungry.

    Good luck!
