Trying to Get Pregnant

Confused about charting cervical mucus? This will help

I've been looking for a while for a resource to explain to me what the different types of cervical mucus actually look like. Ive been looking for something with pictures since it all looked sticky and wet and somewhat like some part of an egg to me. So when I started charting with FF I wasn't sure what to classify the lovely stuff inside of me, especially because when you just start there is nothing to compare it to and its hard to go off descriptions alone. So this webpage really helped me (I'm not vouching for the whole website just this one page). There are real pictures so if that grosses you out be warned! The real pictures were helpful for me.

Hope it helps others too.

@kd0202 thanks for this I was feeling a bit unsure about this since I started trying to pay attention. This definitely helps.

  • Thanks, this is great! I know there are pics in TCOYF, but they're not all that helpful and the lady's fingernails weird me out.

  • I have never in my life had EWCM. It makes me sad. I can't be the only one, right?

  • @mrsstuessy I used to get it before going on HBC for five years. Since going off last September, I've noticed it maybe...once or twice? But we've been using pre-seed, which is supposed to be a good alternative.

  • @PensiveCrayon Yeah, pre-seed might be a good idea. Can you just get that at the store, or do you order it online? I mean, the last time I got pregnant there was no EWCM, so I guess it isn't totally necessary. I do get watery CM sometimes, so I guess that is good.

@mrsstuessy I've only had true EWCM once in six cycles. Trying Pre-Seed next cycle if I'm not KU this month. I do get watery CM, but I'm thinking it can't hurt to have a little assistance.

  • I've been using Pre-Seed this cycle and it's been awesome (got mine on Amazon, it's pretty cheap)--I get EWCM sometimes but it's sparse. Possibly worth noting about it: They give you these applicator tubes to shoot up a huge crapton of it near your cervix (like a tampon except lube instead of a tampon) and that much lube is ridiculous even if you're dry as a bone down there. Just a tiny dab of it goes a long way.

OH said he actually prefers it to all those speciality "warming" lubes that aren't as fertility friendly just because the texture of it feels more like the real deal.
  • Yeah, I was using the applicators for awhile there but it just seemed really weird. Like, "Hang on, let me just stick this plastic thing up my hoo-ha and we can keep getting it on." We just use it like regular lube now. I got mine from Walgreens and it was SOOPER $$$, but the caveat there is that we live right in downtown Las Vegas, so everything at that Walgreens is tourist-priced.

  • Thanks for the pics; I have pretty much been calling everything that's not obviously EWCM or "watery," "creamy," so this may help me make a better distinction.  As for the pre-seed, we use it too, but just like regular lube ;)  I order it off Amazon for +/- $20, but I'm pretty sure they have it at CVS/Target/Walmart/Walgreens etc.  It's maybe a couple bucks cheaper to get just the lube-tube without the applicators. ;)

Yea i read that before...very helpful. after coming off BC and having it for the first time was like "WHAT ARE YOU!???" it's reassuring when it is there i suppose

Because there is nothing like grabbing a bottle of pre-seed lube while in vegas! :-)
  • @BusinessWife me too! I was always so confused by the "sticky" description. Like, I've never pulled anything out of my vagina I would called sticky or tacky. So when I saw the pictures I was like ohh you mean the kind with the little chunks! Got it.

  • Wow, this was a really helpful reminder to me to chart the most fertile fluid when more than one description would be accurate.  #oldestnewbiehere
