I am a first time mom and SO overwhelmed! I thought I knew exactly what I wanted and then I started reading every review everywhere and now I am second guessing everything! I would appreciate any and all advice – especially regarding strollers, bassinets, and carriers.
At first I was set on the Britax B Agile Travel System. Then I read about the plastic wheels and am now leaning towards the BOB Motion. I live in a nice neighborhood but our roads are definitely rocky and there aren’t sidewalks. I’m thinking the BOB Motion will give a smoother ride. Any moms with feedback on this system? Did you get the travel system or just the stroller and then a different Britax or other car seat?
Bassinets have me the most overwhelmed. I was set on the Halo Bassinest. Love that it comes right up the bed and is mesh and safe. Then I read all the reviews about how it’s not level! My bed is very high so the Halo would need to be almost at its maximum height. I worry that will provide an unstable bed for baby. At that price point, it’s so not worth it! Now I’m looking into other options. The Arms Reach co sleepers won’t be tall enough. Would it be safe to use a Pack ‘n Play? Otherwise I was looking at the Fisher Price Rock ‘n Play Bassinet. Any advice from moms with very high beds?
I am definitely going with a wrap but I also want a soft shell carrier that both myself and my husband can use as baby girl gets bigger. Right now I’m leaning towards the Tula but am also considering the Ergo. The one limiting factor is my husband is 6’5. Any feedback regarding carriers for taller men would be much appreciated.
This community is fantastic and I would appreciate any advice from seasoned moms out there! Thank you all!
Re: Help! Strollers and Bassinets and Carriers – Oh my!
I have both an ergo and a Tula and I definitely would recommend the Tula. The Tula will fit your husband better and the Tula will last longer. I liked my ergo around the 6ish month mark but definitely prefer the Tula once baby gets older than that. My almost 2 year old doesn't fit in the ergo but still fits a standard Tula without issue.
Also go see if you can try some out in a store. I really like the Britax B-Safe/B-Agile travel system but my husband doesn't like the plastic wheels. I don't plan to go like off-roading with the thing, but my husband prefers the City Mini Jogger stroller. The City Mini was also nice because it has an adjustable handle. We also liked the Lillebaby All Seasons because it felt sturdy but comfortable and could fit both of us. ETA: my husband is 6'6 and I'm 5'8, and the Lillebaby could fit both of us. That was probably the single biggest factor for us -- the other carriers we tried either didn't fit both of us or it was more difficult to adjust them.
A mom friend told me that as long as you have a safe place for baby to sleep (and everything that is marketed as a sleeping place is going to be rated as safe) and something for baby to eat, he will be fine. Everything else is just about convenience for you as a parent.
We have the RNP bassinet and while it was awesome for the first couple weeks, I think we could have just gotten by with a regular PNP with the newborn cradle thing.

When buying your stroller, think about your lifestyle-- we actually didn't use the stroller much past 12-18 months. I work full time and we live in Canada, so we can't use the stroller for 3-5 months of the year when there is snow on the ground or the weather is too cold. If you live in a more temperate climate, and spend a lot of time walking, the investment in a better stroller is worth it. For baby 1, we got a Graco travel system and it worked just fine. This time around I've ordered a Joovy Sit n Stand stroller, since my DD will be 3.25 when baby #2 arrives.
We used a PnP for a bassinet and it worked fine. There was no need for a separate piece of gear.
I'm looking at getting a wrap for this baby when she is really little. We have a Beco Gemini and a toddler Tula as well. My DH has a super long torso and we haven't found a carrier that works for him!

I didn't want a travel system because I thought it would be so bulky in the beginning to have the carseat sitting on top of the stroller seat. I wanted a stroller that did it all. The UppaBaby Vista solved all my problems and I will use it again for #2.
In the early stages I used just the frame and popped the carseat in and out (I got a Graco carseat and the adapter so it fit). The Vista also came with a Bassinet so I could pop that in and out as well. I got a rocker base (not the Uppababy one but a generic one from Buy Buy Baby that rocks). This sat next to my bed most of the time and sometimes would pop it into the stroller for walks around the neighborhood when DD was still real tiny and not ready for the actual seat.
When DD was older, the bassinet got packed away and the toddler seat was the most used. I have the 2nd attaching seat so when baby #2 arrives DD1 will sit there and baby will be in the carseat adapater first until he is ready for the toddler seat. I also bought the infant insert for the toddler seat so that it can be used earlier, I think around 3 months old is when I used that.
All in one stroller BAM!
I mostly use the umbrella stroller now since DD is 2yrs old (have for quite a while). Loved UppaBaby so I got the G-Luxe, liked the recline (she would take naps no problem) and the extended sun shade.
