Baby Monitors

I know this is early, lot of the baby equipment talk doesn't start until 2nd tri, but many of us are second+ time moms so I thought I would throw it out there.  What baby monitor do you recommend?  For DD1 we used an Angle Care movement and sound, and then with DD2 I added the Motorola video monitor.  we used just the movement sensor with Angle Care and I got a second video sensor for Motorola so I could keep an eye on both girls in their separate rooms.  I like the comfort of having some type of movement monitor, since DD2 actually did stop breathing once and the Angel Care may have actually saved her life.  I got rid of Angel Care on consignment long ago and the Motorola started having problems after about a year.  I have seen new sensor monitors like the Owlet and BabySense.
What are your thoughts?

Re: Baby Monitors

  • I'm also an AngelCare lover. It gives me so much peace of mind. That said, I used it for nearly 3years straight for my 3 and 2 year olds and it bit the dust about 6 months ago. I think this time I'm leaning toward the Owelet for breathing/movement monitoring and will get a cheapie video monitor to keep an eye on baby. When the AngelCare died I ended up taking the Summer Infant video monitor I had in my 3 year old's room and moving it to the 2 year old's. I'll probably still want a monitor on her when baby is born so I'll need another. Or maybe I'll look into something that can toggle between two cameras.

  • Our Motorola video monitor crapped out on us after 18 months so we replaced it with an Infant Optics one from Amazon.

We love it. The battery life is awesome!! Best reviews we could fine. And you can add multiple cameras. It has lasted a year so far with no issues.

  • We also love(d) the Angelcare monitors...I bought one on sale from Walmart last year that should still be good, so we will probably use that again.  I really like the Owlette though from what I've seen, and I would probably use it if I were in the market for another monitor.

  • I used to graco monitor from target and always loved it. It is so sensitive and picks up movement. I'm not sure if I am going to get a new one this time around it will depend on where we decide the baby will sleep. I would love to have a small portable video monitor though!
